Kat Carney

Kat Carney

Hi, I'm Kat. My boyfriend and I built out a 4x4 2002 Z71 Suburban for a year of life on the road in 2016. He accidentally got a job after 6 months, so now it's just me and the road. Hooper (the suburban) and I still check in on him every once in a while, but the open road calls us back.

UPDATE: We got married, moved to Rhode Island, and now Kat travels about 4-5 months out of the year in Hooper, and Craig joins for 2-3 months in the summer!

UPDATE: We sold Hooper, bought a house, got pregnant, and are due in May 2022. We run 3 successful businesses (www.swellandstone.com, www.katcarneyphotography.com, and www.fieldandtrack.org). Luckily we have a 5-year plan for buying and building out our next adventure vehicle so we will try and bring you on that journey too when it happens.

UPDATE: We had a sweet baby boy and he is so freaking awesome! This season of being business owners has been amazing, but the open road calls to us. Next update might find us on the road in a couple of years.

We sold it in 2021! We loved it so much, but we have since added a kiddo to the family so now we are in the market for something that can accommodate a kid or two.

Hey guys I'm watching your video now.. it just hit me that I can go the suburban style and remain even more stealthy then being in a pickup .. how so you like the 4x4 4wd ? I'm watching your videos now I'd be curious I'm totally thinking about going this way now. As I start my way on my truck camping journey ... I'd be curious to hear your thoughts vs a pickup.. I would definitely raise it up too if I bought one. I'll check your videos out and see what all you guys got.

We sold last year! Hoop was still going strong and we loved everything about it, but we had a kid and needed an adventure mobile with a seat for a kid.

I found you, just now.. From a video you did on the initial build. A guy was the main person?.. 🤔 I dreamed of doing this with a Suburban/Yukon XL.. Ended up buying a Sierra truck.. Ended up selling it over Smog laws in California! 🤭🤨 Recently DID buy a Suburban.. My setup is FAR different from yours.. However I'm only 50% done?? 🤔 I recently installed a Diesel heater.. I DO have pets (a Parrot, a hairless dog, and a 20 year old cat!).. I'm curious what's happened to you since "Covid"!.. You don't strike me as a shut in! Yet it looks like you've disappeared.. 🤔 The holes in a mask are an average of 20 microns wide.. While viruses are only 0.5 microns.. So 40 viruses in a perfect line can fit through the holes in a cloth mask! Most viruses (including Covid) die under direct sunlight in about 85 seconds! So get your cart from the sunny spot! 99.6% of the infected, survive! I found you with a search for Covert Overlander.. (I like mine better!) 🤣 But your ideas are invaluable! I'd like to know more about you Kat!.. What are you doing today? I WAS a Solar/Electronics tech.. I did Uber as I bought SAILBOAT parts.. (Over-Oceaner!)... Covid slowed that plan for me!.. I had Covid-19 the last two weeks of February 2020.. Doing Uber for the International Cyber security conference.. Since then I deliver supplies to the scared, and vulnerable.. I'd love to find an adventure buddy!

Lol, "I'm a retired track and field athlete" aka unemployed. That made me laugh. Years ago the company I worked for went under. I received severance and took a year off to raise my kids. I would tell people, "I'm a stay at home dad." Everyone would like at me like I was a bum. Honestly, staying at home with my kids was the beast year of my life. I don't know why anyone, would want anything else. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it.

Did you look at installing your 2nd battery in the engine compartment? There should be room since the police Tahoe and Suburban run 2 batteries in the engine bay. Otherwise nice setup.
