The white women or Witte Wieven is a folklore/phenomenon. It may not be a fairy tale, but most if not all the fairy tales we know originated from some kind of folklore or story people told the children to warn them from danger, originally they were absolutely brutal and gruesome with a lot of death. So it actually totally fits as de Witte Wieven have their folklore stories locally. For example I found in our language a book from 1425 who talked about stories that were forbidden by the church to believe in, and these women were specifically mentioned. The book also mentioned it was forbidden to believe in ghosts, fortune tellers, magic and witches and ... nightmares? The church wasn't successful though, the pagans were ofc too stubborn (thanks pagans or we wouldn't have Christmas trees), another book in 1660 mentioned them again in little hills on the graveyard they lived.

I just noticed the detail of 19:34, after all these years! The lion is holding a shield with something on it. But instead of the VoC emblem ( known as the Dutch East Indian Company) they made a variant with the Efteling logo, do you see the E there? Isn't that absolutely great??? You had a special fascination with this coaster isn't it? I think Baron 1898 is inspired by the history of the States' Mines in the southern Netherlands around 1900. Coal was discovered in the southernmost province of Limburg and so the little farmers who lived in these little rustic provincial villages suddenly saw their land being overrun by people from the cities with machines and factories. While that meant work and prosperity for this impoverished region many regretted the loss of their rural countryside and their old way of life. Perhaps that is what the ghost women represent: the old countryside that is gone now but is still trying to make the miners go home and not touch their treasures. And the baron, while oblivious to the beauty he has destroyed, has some good intentions trying to bring prosperity to the poor people as well as himself. Well anyway, it's just a thought...
@WorldofThrillsАй бұрын
It definitely seems that way 😂 Yes I think you are right! I believe the white women are also based off an old Dutch fairytale but I could be wrong!

@@WorldofThrills Recently, in a very old book on ancient folklore, I read another interpretation of the Witte Wieven that I like the best: it says that they are the spirits of pagan priestesses who are still watching over their ancient sacred sites: the ponds where they worshipped their gods as well as the burial mounds of their kings.

I visited Efteling in March this year with my family from the UK, and I truly think it was the happiest week of my life thus far - I'm only 17 so I have plenty of time ahead of me but there is something about this park that gives it a heart. You can feel the love that people have for it when you're there, there's always just enough going on - never too much and never too little on the eyes. I think the music here is the cherry on top, I don't think there's a single piece of music within efteling that hasn't moved me or made me feel some kind of way - I always came off Droomvlucht with tears in my eyes because of its visuals with its soundtrack. This place is truly one of a kind, and one that I can't wait to visit again sometime. I also spent my first full day with my partner in person here so perhaps that adds to me getting so emotional over this place :') This video is wonderfully done, and it's lovely to see more people sharing their love for this place despite their age. It truly is a place of wonders, thank you for making this :)
