    @@teddyruxpin3811 We employ computers as backup devices even during decompression dives. Over-reliance on your computer, as seen with many new divers, can lead to "trust me" dives. Only a fraction of newly certified divers contemplate the significance of the data displayed on their dive computers; blindly following it is discouraged. While it's wise to have a computer for timekeeping and depth checking purposes, it doesn't have to be overly complex or expensive. Rather, it's crucial to plan your dive meticulously and adhere to your plan. This encapsulates our stance on the matter.

    Great video as always! Can't wait to see more. But I have a question, I've been looking for some time to buy a backplate BCD. In my case right now, I'm diving with a 15l liter bottle and a stage 5.7L. By the gas weight calculation with a 10 kg lift wing is enough, but right now I'm using a normal BCD which has a 22 kg lift. Would you guys recommend me to get the 10 kg lift wing or a bigger one like 13 or 15 kg? I don't know if this needs to be considered, but I'm also pretty big, I weight around 90 kg, and I am 185 cm tall. Again, thanks for these great videos, you deserve much more views and subs. Finally, a channel that posts high quality instructive scuba videos.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatedivers2 күн бұрын

    Thank you for your comment! Adding a stage complicates things slightly, and I'm assuming you have an aluminum one? We can't answer your question without knowing that for certain, as well as your exposure protection. However, based on the little information you shared, here is one piece of advice I can offer: I don't see a single good reason for the setup you're using. If you're using the stage to extend your bottom time, you should clean up your configuration and move on to diving a twinset. That will solve 99% of your problems including the ones you don't currently have.

  • @andreuduran6507
    @andreuduran65072 күн бұрын

    @@flowstatedivers Wow, what a quick answer😁Thank you. Yes, the stage is an aluminum 5.7L, and it's used for deco stops right now with a EAN40% I can't use a higher O2% with my actual training. For exposure protection, I use during winter a 4 mm neoprene dry suit and during summer a 7 mm semidry.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatediversКүн бұрын

    This is even more puzzling as 40% nitrox is recreational mix where deco should not be a factor whatsoever. Anyways, you are using the worst possible exposure protection for the job + the wrong configuration. These wetsuits are absolutely not recommended to be used below 18 meters due to the compression and loss of buoyancy especially not with steel tanks. You also possibly confuse stage and deco bottles, those are 2 different things. All this is telling me that you have some major confusions which is not a problem but be careful with the dives you are (I assume) doing right now as you will quickly find yourself in the kind of trouble you don't want to be in. We will release some material on unsuitable equipment combinations you might going to find something in there which will help your diving. Stay safe out there!

    Which d ring do you recommend to use the serrated tri-glide? I didn’t catch that in the video and I can’t see since it never zoomed in. I’m guessing on the shoulder d rings. What about a welded/fixed d ring? Some people use those so they always point down.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatedivers2 күн бұрын

    The serrated tri-glides are engineered to endure heavy loads, and their optimal placement is at the base of the backplate where the shoulder loop terminates. This location is crucial because without them, the adjustments to the shoulder loop can shift due to the cylinder's weight. Fixed d-rings aren't recommended. You should be able to interact with your d-rings without visual reference and when you can turn them 180 degrees relative to the webbing, it will make the process much easier and intuitive.

There aren't many options for short BPs, though there are some in steel and only one company I can find that makes a short Al plate. I want to switch her over to a BPW, but I want to make the transition easier for her. She is currently in a Zeagle Ranger Jr BCD (back-inflate style) and has never used a jacket style, so she's used to all the lift being behind her. Your thoughts?

    I love your content. Your other videos are spot on. I couldn’t agree more. BUT this video is displaying some incorrect information. The BP/W should have the wing nuts on the inside close to the divers back. This allows the tank to sit fully into the STA. The lift of the wing is decided by the weight of the kit OFF of the diver’s body with all weights integrated, NOT from the capacity of the difference in gas. In case of need to float your gear in the water for any reason.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatedivers4 күн бұрын

    Thank you for your feedback. All STAs we have encountered have approximately 45-degree prebent 'walls,' which naturally distance your cylinder from the backplate. Within this space, you can easily fit the wing nut without any interference with the cylinder. Following this method can benefit your drysuit by placing potentially sharp edges away from the material. Obviously, this is not possible with a twinset due to the tank bands, but you can achieve this setup as demonstrated in the video. Regarding floating your kit on the surface, we do not encourage preparing for 'any' scenario because this mentality results in adding things you dont need, finding solutions to problems that didnt exist or even worse, addressing issues with equipment modification instead of adequate training. We do not see a single realistic/valid reason for floating the kit detached from the diver. In a rescue scenario where you must cut someone out of their harness, the last thing you care about is to find the kit floating somewhere. What any other legitimate reasons can you think of that would justify "floating your gear in the water"?

    @@flowstatedivers Good point about the STA, I may have had longer wing nuts, or longer bolts that prevented the tank from sitting correctly with the wingnuts on that side. But thats not to say it doesn’t work for yourself. There have been dives I personally have been on where getting up and down the swim ladder with all gear on was not an option, so removing kit in the water and passing it up was necessary. Having the ability to float all my gear wether its being removed or while waiting to have it pulled on board wouldn’t have been possible without the ability to float ALL the kit with the wing. Also in an emergency, having a kit that is bouyant on its own is incredibly beneficial vs trying to remove kit that is negative overall when off the diver. It also allows for easier recovery of the gear for investigation afterwards. While not the priority, it takes a second to make sure the kit is on the surface and floating, which can help the investigators understand what happened should there be a fatality. Keep up the good work! I recommend all your videos to my stidents and friends!

    So I did the math for gas weight and I’d like it if someone checked my work please. I have a hp100 Faber which is 12.9L. It holds 237 bar. Times those together to get 3057 then times weight of air 1.29g to get 4kg (rounded). Add 2kg for safety and get 8kg. I’m diving doubles so double that for 12kg. So I need at least 12kg of lift. My DiveRite Rec series wing has 20.4kg of lift so if I’m properly weighted I’m good to go there.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatedivers4 күн бұрын

    Correct. You got a typo there states 8kg instead of 6 but everything else checks out. Keep in mind that you need to be correctly weighted for this to work, so with empty cylinders while wearing all your gear you should be neutral. The negative gear you are using should be compensated by the exposure protection you are wearing, assuming it's a dry suit with our heavy doubles.

    Why aluminium STA?

  • @harambeexpress
    @harambeexpress5 күн бұрын

    I would assume you should match the STA material to your backplate material, and your backplate material to the buoyancy of your exposure protection... But perhaps the point is to not have the weight of the STA influence your buoyancy and steel is too negatively buoyant? Generally I'd avoid having dissimilar metals because of corrosion, but I guess with a bolted connection it's not the end of the world.

  • @flowstatedivers
    @flowstatedivers5 күн бұрын

    Although you're accurate in addressing these aspects, it's important to note that the STA and backplate never come into direct contact. The wing is situated between them, minimizing the likelihood of corrosion. Additionally, the screws or bolts fastening the two metals together are of negligible significance.

  • @MegaEpicLlama

    The quatros are excellent fins, one of the few that is more or less neutrally buoyant, which is what you have to look out for unless you have some weird leg composition. It's an absolute bias to use jet fins, we are considering actually to make a video of this to clear up some generic confusion... do you think it would be interesting ?

    @@flowstatedivers Oh yes, for sure!! That is again one of those topics on which there is a lot of opinion, but very little substance or explanation of Why. That would be great! And thank you for the explanation! 🙏
