Richard--I think you go to St. Peter's in Slinger? I recognize you. My Dad, Fred Warmuth, worked at AOS for over 30 years (1950-1983). He was a laborer in hard bar and a member of AFL-CIO Local 19806. His clock number was 36333. don't ask me how I remember that stuff...

We live and die by our A.O. Smith Clock Number. If you had any old A.O. Smith shop or other things relating to Milwaukee Works I would be most appreciated to see them. Yes, I go to St. Peter in Slinger and usually at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday. Come over and talk at any time.

Your expansion project has absolutely devoured any sense of the historic St. Peter's. Lots of money, but no taste or restraint. What about the historic pipe organ? No mention of that. Having money to do these things is a curse...

I agree. I am glad it’s able to better serve the community, but there is no trace left of the historic church I grew up in. That church persisted for generations and now it looks like every other commercialized church around. :(

@@megannordvall6377 Thanks for your reply--and for agreeing with me! I was the Director of Music at St. Kilian in Hartford (a hideously ugly building) from 1979-82 and I recall so fondly St. Peter's Church from that time. I played the organ there a few times. As you say, it's wonderful to make the building serve the community more effectively, but at what cost? At least (as far as I know) St. Lawrence in Addison hasn't been 'modernized'!

Milwaukee Works was 154 acres with the smallest railroad system in Wisconsin, eight and a half miles. Also, A.O. Smith Automotive Product Company owns other lots around the plant and neighborhood to store punch press dies and for the training of welders. Employment max out at 12,000 workers during WWII. Milwaukee manufactured: automotive frames, truck frames, beer tanks, bombs, and airplane parts, powdered metal parts, railroad products, elevators, weld-rod, pipe shop that build the "Alaska pipeline", and had the largest tool room in Milwaukee along with six smaller die repair areas were all part of Milwaukee Works. As always "Expect something Special" was A.O. Smith motto.

St. Peter Knights of Columbus Council 12588 in Slinger, Wisconsin held a fundraiser with “The Messengers” that produced a show called “A Knight of Blarney” in the lower church hall of St. Peter Church. A delicate Corned Beef dinner and deserts were served along with a 50-50 raffle and silent Auction to boot. All in attendance had a GREAT TIME. Blarney town is a major tourist attraction in County Cork. Most people come to see the castle, kiss the stone, and to shop at the Blarney Woolen Mills. Blarney Stone and Blarney Castle By kissing the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle, it is claimed that one can receive the "Gift of the Gab" (eloquence, or skill at flattery or persuasion). The legend has several suggested roots, involving members of the MacCarthy dynasty - builders and original owners of Blarney Castle.

I remember some time in the 80's or 90's reading in the journal classifieds a public notice that on the west side there was a dumpsite of sorts. This notice made a declaration that this particular area was unfit for building, but ok for a parking lot. I remember one or two guys speak of "the pond" on the west side. What are the chances one of the new buildings is built on the pond? Sometimes information is forgotten or swept under a rug. I miss the plant, I worked with a great bunch of guys.

Yes, it's true there were three acid ponds just north of the east end of Building 108. It was blacktop over in the 80’s and Concrete barriers were put in place so no fork-lift driver or semi driver with a trailer would ever drive over that location. Now it is a city of Milwaukee yard property and they can do whatever they want.
