Give way to cars in the middle, that’s not quite right, it doesn’t matter if there’s a central reservation or not, if both cars are turning right then nobody has priority, the give way lines simply mean the main road has priority so both need to give way to the main road, when there’s nothing on the main road and there are cars waiting at both side roads at the give way lines nobody has priority and eye contact needs to be made and a decision has to be made as to who would like to go first, it’s safer and best for traffic flow to let cars clear the middle from the inside before cars from the outside enter the middle, the Highway Code states that nobody has priority but road signs and road markings tell us when we should give way but always remember that some drivers may have a different opinion so always read each and every situation as they are all different.

Quite confused, so A and B should make eye contact if both are intending to enter the median? I was in a similar situation just then, thats why I am here. I'm B, I was in the median when A decided to enter (A probably thinking i should have stopped and gave way for A to enter). We both stopped just at the second lane where D is (note no other cars present) driver side to driver side giving each other the death stare, both thinking "give way to me". Should i have stopped and let A enter the median? Apologies if my story is confusing.

If you have a give way line it just means ‘give way to traffic on the main road’, as obviously the main road will always have priority over the minor road, so, if you have a give way line in front of you then you give way to traffic on the main road, apart from that there isn’t priority but generally if you’re crossing the path of someone you’re going to let them go first but it’s not a rule, it’s just etiquette, in the example in the video clip A has a give way line so he needs to give way to B and C as they are both on the major road, when there are no cars on the major road, or there is a big enough gap on the main road and A is 100% sure that they won’t make anyone on the main road stop swerve or slow down then A can enter the central reservation, in the central reservation A will again need to give way to the main road, again when there are no cars on the main road or there is a big enough gap and A is sure that he won’t make anyone on the main road stop swerve or slow down then he can’t turn right and enter the main road, in the example in the video if A is at the give way line and the main road is clear but he sees D wanting to enter the central reservation then it’s best for A to wait until D has finished his turn as it’s safer to enter the central reservation alone with nobody else there and also letting the cars in the middle clear from the inside before entering from the outside aids with traffic flow.

I was one of Sangita's driving students a couple of years ago and she was fantastic. She put my nerves at ease, met me where ever I happened to be in the Wyndham area. All the while being very supportive with great instruction. I highly recommend JNJ Driving School Melbourne.
