I love making people smile and finding joy in creating and making music - whether that's with a guitar, singing, playing the melodica... who knows!
Alongside my original music and cover versions of tunes I enjoy playing, I also share a bunch of knowledge on my personal setup in the hope you can steal some ideas, and I create tutorials on looping, as well as live sound and recording.
Because it's a question I get asked quite often my Takamine model is an ND15c, and the PRS acoustic is an A55EBG.
I'm always learning too, so feel free to reach out with questions, ideas, suggestions, and we'll see what we can create together.

Amazing! Can you tell me if it's possible to start two tracks just with one switch? I like to put a kick on track one and a basse on track two (for separate outputs front of house) But I need to start the two tracks with one switch so they start together immediately...Thank you so much
this is sick
Always loved this song man. Tried to learn it until I saw you said its in Dm9 lol. Great song man🤩
I love your channel, thank you for making these videos! Would love to see you perform one day!
cool....how do i mute the mic but when unmuted it has delay on it?....cheers dude.
Set your fx to off, or on your fx delay turn it down to 0.
Brilliant as usual... I'm stealing this!
I have a question brother, somehow my drumsoumds as in the bass drm, snare etc does not seem to be recording on the loop can you help me with this..?
Love the build up progression!❤
simply the best acoustic cover on youtube .. i finely found .. thank you
killer solo here...🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cheers. Good vid
Amigo David, que gran talento Dios lo bendiga, gracias por compartir. Saludos desde la distancia Popayán - Cauca - Colombia
I don’t understand how pre-recorded tracks with a foot switch isn’t mentioned
That’s of course another great option - but I’m a live performer catering to people who want to do their show live, so unlikely to hear me specifically talking about anything pre-recorded. I suspect there’s someone that has a great channel talking about that stuff tho too!
What are you using on the mic stand to create the claps?
Akai Mpx8 - amzn.to/3SiFOdU. I use some internal samples and some that I've loaded myself on an SD card. Pretty sure the claps for this is just straight from the unit.
@@davidshanhun Thank you!
thanks for the informative video
most welcome :)
Perfect!
Thanks!
nice
you're indeed a vocal therapist/psychologist
Great job as always !
Thanks ☺️
Cool Vid mate - good to follow your approach to the song = thanks for sharing 😎🎸🎤
Cheers!
I’m not very good at spotting mistakes.. I’m quite proficient at making them tho…😂 loved the performance!!
haha! ...instead of hitting stop at the bridge I hit play on the second track :P Cheers!
My phone got caught in the rain and got wet, It's been more then 12hr. Bottom part is showing violet colour cause of water. Will it work if I use this now?
Highly unlikely to solve your issue at that level - but by all means try all options!
I love that cheeky short loop on the verse. Is this a 4 track loop arrangement for you?
Hehe 👌 sneaky looping on that one eh! Yeah I don’t really put more into it - could use a 5th track for potential break down options on the chorus, but i tend to add anything extra onto the main chorus loop really. And to be fair - it would be a 3 track loop if i put my akai claps/snaps on the first rhythm track!
@@davidshanhun Is that because you're using Play/Stop for Tracks 1 (and 2? - whatever the snaps were on) and you don't have an overdub option handy for Track 1? I've been doing a lot of futzing with my setup lately :). Also, because I didn't say it above, I really enjoy your version of this song and your overall guitar tone. Loving the new board.
(and pardon me for geeking out) - it looks like you have your two percussion tracks on "MULTI" and the two instrumental tracks on SINGLE, and your All Start/Stop is set to only affect tracks (left to right), 1, 2, and 3? Trying to work backwards from what you click to what's happening :)
@@RickSandersMusic ah cheers mate! I have the 2nd track with only the Akai going into it (it's actually track 6 mapped to that button haha). that way I can have break downs later in the tune if I choose to, and no concerns about any guitar bleed or noise when recording ideas or things from the Akai pretty much. Could easily all go on track 1 and get overdubbed though.
@@RickSandersMusic pretty good detective work mate! pedal 1 is track 1 normal play/odub (no stop option), pedal two is track 6 just akai - both on multi. pedal 3 and 4 are the normal track 2 in single mode, and pedal 5&6 normal track 3 in single mode... and then if you have tracks in single mode and hit start/stop - the multi tracks plus the first single track play - no extra assigns or trickery needed! Hope that helps!
Can you do a rig run down that would be cool. Was the mistake that you hit pay on loop 3 by mistake at the beginning of the bridge and then stopped it immediately before it played?
Nailed it on the mistake 👌 yep probably due a rig run down and walkthrough!
Nice one, David
Thanks Peter 🥰
Nice job. Interesting that you were using he Tumnus on the acoustic. Sounded good, I did not catch the "mistake".
Yeah love the tumnus with the acoustic! Mistake is right at the start of the bridge - hit play on my verse track instead of just stopping the main chorus loop 😜
Lets play spot my mistake... 😂
great advice for 26 minutes, and then he reccomends the NT1-A 🤣
For someone starting out in their own home studio I’m curious what you would recommend instead? 🤷♂️🤔
@@davidshanhun I used to say the NT1, but now that rode changed it again I usually recommend the CAD m179. Or if you want something more flat and don't mind spending a bit more I like the sE 4100 & 4400
@@Old_SnakeTwitch nice - and thanks also 👌 have heard good things about the 4400, I guess like you say though that's a different $ bracket.
Great tips
Im going to a concert next month to watch a band.. will my lavalier mic work perfectly to record their music? Will my distance from them affects the sound quality?
Heya. Typically this won’t get great results but can work of course, and recording audio with a mic in the audience will usually have quite a bit of general noise. Are you able to record from the bands mixing desk or is this a concert from somebody you don’t know? Best thing is to take it and try so you can see what you get, and then adjust from there. If you can use EQ well after the gig you can often get quite a reasonable mix though! Hope that helps!
wow...powerful voice and super skills with the guitar and the looper...keep rocking...greetings from Mumbai
Thanks! Hello from New Zealand!
Great one! Smooth, versatile, interesting! ❤real one man band! Keep them comin’ ps. Which is you fav acoustic guit?
Thanks :) My favourite acoustic gat is usually the one that is set up the best haha!
Could you possibly lean in closer to the camera? Thanks.
And i thought i already did such a great job of doing that 🤷♂️😉
Great cover David. “Release the pedal footage” - PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSE!😂
Cheers Mike! Haha will do mate 😉

Awesome and I didn’t even know PRS made an acoustic 👍🏻
haha there you go! new discovery for the day! :)
Very good mate, I think this song would even fit into a mashup with Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know, nice job. One question, how do you connect your Akai to the RC600? Via Midi or USB?
ooh yes - that's a good call! Connected just by audio cable for the Akai.
@@davidshanhun Great stuff man, it would be cool if you made a video showing your routing, connections along with all your equipment. Suddenly even demonstrating live examples, creating loops with the akai, some bass lines, etc., that would be nice, cheers!
great
Thanks Tom!
Fantastic stuff!!!!
Thank you!
Love it!
