Seems very specific to downhill riders. Should probably point this out! How about an XC perspective?
Try doing a 40-50 km ride whit lot of climbing whit cleats all the way back, i do It thinking It was the right way, then i try midfoot cleats possition and it was unbeliveble the difference in climbing performance More power, less fatigue, your legs last longer and the downhills where just the same, never again cleats all the way back
Sheesh looking fire
I finally chose dedicated MTB shoes and these are it. I love them. Quite a change up.
Good video but too technical, JUST RIDE!!
I don't have the patience to watch many 11 minute videos on anything and here I just watched a whole one on clipless pedal positions....and I ride flats....
Esoooooo
Imagine, you'd nearly think road and DH are two different sports, weird that... One actually pedals and the other would probably benefit more with foot pegs !
Why does everything have to.have that horid flag on it I hate it hate what it stands for pure eveil
Actually, very interesting Ben
🤣🤣 interesting to see that the same discussion is around since 1994. 😛
Big Cathro is the man.
how about Sam Hill? 😆
Can we just be done with the term 'clipless' as a society? no one uses the old school 'toe clips' anymore. Every video content creator wastes time explaining the term 'clipless.' Just call flats flats, and clips clips and fuckin move on with our lives.
great one!
Он как-то слишком легко подпрыгнул перед деревом
Whoa, I thought the interviews would show some variation in that. But all clips down? Sheesh!
I have a silly question. Is there beginner cleats ,as I’ve always went flats .Would love to try them .
Shimano makes a cleat that is very easy to get out of compared to the normal cleat. It had a capital M on the cleat. I love them as I can unclip almost as easily as if I were on a flat pedal but I also feel very connected to my bike when I’m clipped in.
There's an error in your calculations. If you weigh 94kg on a scale at 1g (approx. earths gravitational pull), then you'll weigh 940kg at 10g, not 9.400kg. There's no way you or your bike could sustain close to 10 tons of weight, not even for a split second.
Wow, this looks so cool
the wilhelm scream @1:30 was great!!
Было пару опасных моментов, но круто!
Haven't switched to clips yet, but I ride flats with the ball of foot forward of the axle, and feel much more planted that way.
Sos mi ídolo!!!
Rafaella "Roxy" Wieschollek. Roxy Ride and Inspire has some thoughts on foot position and flat pedals.
Any plans to bring the slip on Five Ten back? It's absolutely perfect for city riding.
Berm peaks ride home lmao
How about the effect of offsetting the cleat from the centre line (side to side)? Or the angle of the cleat? So much to cover.
Thank you Ben for another very informative and enjoyable video. You are a giant in the world of bike journalism. Not only in stature but in talent and accomplishment. You also have a wonderful sense of humor. Your videos are top notch.
They should be called 'click-in' pedals.
Wow this iS amazing I recommend you to try summiting to mount Kenya then take a safari to samburu,,
💯💯💯
As someone who dabbles with his MTB simply due to time (I skate, surf, road cycle for fitness)....I didn't know that Enduro and DH riders even clipped in?? No wonder they look so bloody glued to the bikes! I thought it was just good technique of driving their weight down through to the pedals! 🤯 I'm confused..lol
I used to have my cleats in the middle. In an enduro comp with longer stages, my calves were burning. Decided to slide the cleat further back just for a test, and never moved them forward. Then went to ride flats just to keep those bunny hops clean.
До миллиона
As a bmxer i always looked at mountain bikers backwards for doing this. If this is where they are supposed to be why wouldnt shoe companies design the cleat slots to be further back on DH shoes? Seems like the cool thing to do rather than the right thing to do
Good data review 👍🏻👍🏻
When will the shoe be available again? it is no longer available worldwide.
i think your show size matters quite a bit, if you have a smaller foot, maybe you don’t need to adjust them as far back. in summary, just find a roadie with your shoe size and do the opposite 😂
In down hill you want them at the back as your spending most of your time hanging of the back of the bike. 🚲👍

I use extension plates to mount my cleats 35mm behind the pivot point of my ankle.
ben cathro is a crazy nerd... i love it!
I've always slammed my cleats all the way back
Can we address the weakness of the 510 cleat nuts?
A decent convincing piece of advertising. I’m straight off to buy some Helcats. Only Cathro could do that and get me to the end of the video.
Paracardium 6. I'll research it, thank you.
that flat land though xD
👏👏👏📽️😎
Great content, as always. It’s something I hadn’t thought about much before. It would be good to have Ben interview a bunch of XC riders on the same subject, as the other end of the off road spectrum. As they have to consider going uphill too, I wonder where they would find the sweet spot.
So i ride flat pedals and all my shoes have two distinctive tread or groove patterns in them from the studs. One on the ball of front of my foot and one just before the middle of my foot. Front pattern is from climbing and middle is from descending. Hence all these DH riders have there clips more to the middle you much more stable
