What I hate most is when im talking about my ADHD and someone tries to tell me "Oh I have ADHD too! But I don't take meds and have never been diagnosed--" DUDE. It's so insulting. And they act like it's some disorder that makes you quirky, but let me tell you it can destroy relationships. People get sick of the fact that they have to repeat themselves literally ten times before you can retain the information, but you can't help it. You're stuck in your body unable to gather information, just wandering around like its a fucking dream. Absolutely ridiculous. Yes, there are moments of hyperactivity, but half of the time you are just braindead. It's either braindead or hyperfocus. A living nightmare.
@therealexo121515 күн бұрын
I get what you mean. I've lost some relationships , romantic and just friends because of stuff that I do because of my adhd. It seems like you have it worse than me because I see my adhd as a superpower most of the time. But I do also have times where it feels like a nightmare. And yeah I hate that shit too. Even while I was getting diagnosed I never went around telling people that I had it. Some people just say anything to be relatable
@Tyrisalthan15 күн бұрын
I very much agree that ADHD is the most misunderstood disorders ever. I got my ADHD diagnose at the age of 38. I had no idea what else ADHD contained except hyperactivity. I originally went to the tests for autism but none of those came even close. The doctor gave me ADHD test as part of the larger battery to find out what I might have, and it really resonated with me. When I was diagnosed the doctor was hesitant to give the diagnosis since I wasn't especially hyperactive, I was really good at concentrating, and I had always gotten good grades at school. What did resonate was that I was always late, ALWAYS! I often lost my keys and left my books at home. I rarely did my homework at home, I either did them at school before I got home, or most often in the recess before the class in question started (once the urgency kicked in). I did easily get distracted in class, looking out the window, chatting with a friend, getting lost in my thoughts, etc. And hyper-focus about things that interested me sounded really familiar. Sounds like a recipe for disaster: Always late, didn't pay attention in class, and never did homework, just having fun with friends instead. I still got good grades though, I learned how to cope. I kept all my school books at my backpack at all times so I'd never forgot any of them, and chained the keys to my pants so I couldn't left them behind. I chose my spot in the class to be away from the window and in the first row where the teacher noticed if I didn't pay attention so I had to concentrate, I asked a lot of questions that put me on the spot so again I'd paid attention, and there wasn't as many distractions there since nobody else dared to hassle there either. For homework things were most of the time technically done once the class started. For being late I technically never got solved, I still left late at home, I just learned to run for longer at school (with a full backpack I might add) so I wasn't as much late as before, and teachers already expected me to come a bit late so they didn't punish me for it anymore. And I put the hyper-focus at good use in school since several subjects really interested me, so I often knew those subjects better than any of my classmates. The subjects I weren't as interested in I tried to find an angle of it that did peaked my interest. The subjects that I couldn't were much harder (I still don't know the technical terms or rules of my native language or english, even though I speak them both, my third language I barely understud at all), but I did manage to get through them somehow. I guess there is a lot of people like me who have ADHD but don't know it, because they are not hyperactive but think that's what ADHD is. What I'd hope is that the media would depict other aspects of the diagnosis more often. Maybe the problem is that many filmmakers don't know that themselves, so it would be hard to tell it to others. But maybe things will become more clear as the time goes on. Nowadays more and more adults get diagnosis, so it's become more and more well known.
@therealexo121515 күн бұрын
Thanks for telling your story it was interesting to read. And yeah hopefully it becomes more widely known because there is alot of people getting their diagnosis alot later in life.
