Synchronous AM detection is only offered in a few ham transceivers: the Flex series, and older models such as the Yaesu FT-1000MP. I wish more manufacturers offered it, as I am an avid AM operator.

I suspect the fluctuations of the tuning indicator on the TE712B is an example of selective fading. Look it up.

I could be wrong but it feels like the Teletron bandwidth is +- (written in the label) so 6000 is actually 12000 Hz bandwidth, while the Watkins 6000 Hz is equivalent to Teletron's +- 3000 Hz. That is why you can hear the 5 kHz tone in the Teletron (it passes the filter) but not in the Watkins.

In AM it is plus or minus because you are using both sidebands. In SSB the number is actual because you only use one side band. Thanks again for your help

@@dieselten01 Hi, yes, Leeds, Yorkshire, UK. An Argentinian HAM operator and SWL since looooooong time. By the way, a superb receiver that I didn't check if you have in your collection but is worth to have is another Harris.....the RF-550....spectacular on AM as well as on VLF. The AM audio is the best in business. It was the main gear on many US embassies together with the motorised preselector. I had the opportunity to use one back in my home country with that preselector...what a combination!

Interesting! They say that the R-390 has a super quiet receiver . Some claim NO solid state receiver can come close. So it may be a test to see if your R-390 can beat the R&S or other!!! 😮

@@myradiovideos R390 may be quiet. My 390 is of dubious background, I have no idea when the last time it was worked on. It works well, but I don’t think it is perfect, but then again I don’t have anything to compare to . Definitely clear in my opinion, the 8711 has incredible filters. Literal brick wall filters. for selectivity and blocking out stuff you don’t wanna hear that is close by, nothing can beat that.

"Red. Träger" is short for Reduziert Träger, so yes, "reduced carrier". Ohne Träger is "without carrier." "Sperr-Filter" means "blocking-filter" so is a notch filter. "FB" is short for "Fernbedienbar" which means Remote Control so there must be a port on the back for remote control. "Abstimm-impuls" means something like "voting-pulse" so could be the port for an external error-correction device or decoder for encrypted transmissions. Upper 2 switches on right: Left one looks like a three-step anti-clipping / overload switch and the right one LOOKS like a three-step variable-bandwidth switch but you already have 8 dedicated switches for that already so I'm not sure. WHAT LETTERING IS UNDER THE "Div." switch, is it "aus"? It could be a decimal-point switch for the display. This unit cost 50,000 DM brand new (27,000 USD) when it came out. Motorola now owns the company.

I just finished a full restore on a Racal RA6790/GM. all brand new capacitors, new faceplate ,new keypads and new power supply. I'm currently looking for the ISB board aswell as the individual USB/LSB moduals. This Radio reminds me of an aircraft carrier,, only what you need and nothing more. no dsp and no post processing accept AGC. pretty good for a 40 year old Rig. I'm gunna keep this one for a long long time.

How does that bandwith things go if stations transmitting exsample 10 khz bandwith in am mode and carrie is middle you can listen to stations both directions about 5 khz i dont know but i try figure to that. I mean if i have 5khz tecsun bw filter and station transmitting 10 khz bandwith in am mode what is my true bandwith that i can listen to that station.

There is a time signal on 3.330 KHZ called CHU in Canada there is also a web page for CHU giving listing of other frequencie. 3.330khz I have heard here in the UK

the R1155 was built from of the shelf parts not top grade components unlike the USA radio's There are two version of the R1155 one for marine and the other for aircraft the difference is in the frequencie range and there is also a transmitter to go with it the R1154 which pluged in to sockets on the R1155.

@@gilgabo i collect radios so I have tons of them. But if you are trying to decide whether or not to get the 8600… if you buy a transceiver with a good enough receiver inside then you don’t need the 8600. Just buy an Icom 7610 and be done

You are correct. Sometimes moving these big radios can move or bend the metal shielding slightly can shift the oscillator. The VFO adjust is a Very large Variable capacitor, very hard to get to and adjust, but dust and other possibilities can cause it to move slightly... In any case it is working now, good news!!

@@josealeixes2861 i got rid of mine. I recommend you do the same. I got an Icom 7610 to replace it
because it's not a good radio
