I'm a life long intermediant player. I've been buying your reeds from Sam Ash. He's closing his stores. I 'll search for your reeds on line when I need more. They are so consistent. With your teaching videos I've been able to confidently make adjustments. Thank you.
step 1: avoid jones reeds at all costs
Ik this an old video but I'd still love to ask, what is the song in the background?
That’s Albinoni’s oboe concerto op.9 mov2
That's MY UNCLE BRIAN!! ❤ love and miss you! Love the beard!
No !!!
Thank you for this tutorial, where did you get the reed kit?
Mine is way too stiff but the opening is NOT too big. Now what?
What about tapwater? Does that work?
Of course!
Should there be a certain temperature of the water?
Hello mister Jones! I recently ordered a new oboe reed and came across this problem. Thank you very much for your tips, I will try them out soon! Do these tips (especially the scraping part) also work on European reeds? I think the corners are more scraped on European reeds in general, so do I need to be careful about that part?
Very helpful
Thank you.
I thought that it was going to be much harder to find a way to fix my reed but this is quick, simple, and works beautifully. Thank you!
I hear JC Bach at the end of these.
Thank u so much!!
Soak reed properly
I was always told to keep just the very top of my reed in my mouth. Interesting how different people play.
I literally JUST got Jones reeds in the mail lol
Ok this helps a lot but if I have to bring an oboe to school should I just use a oboe cup and fill it with water at school?
Yes. The soaker cup can go anywhere and the lid fits securely to prevent any water from spilling.
@@jonesdoublereedquicktips4743 oh ok thank you ❤

Just checking to see if anyone else got this in their recommended

Mark Ortwein makes a no-drill balance hanger.
Excellent suggestion, thank you. We'll look into this!
And for anyone interested in Mark's no-drill balance hanger for bassoon, here is the link: ortweinwoodwinds.com/portfolio_page/high-a-bridge-keys-also-works-as-a-low-c-d-trill-key-2-2/
Where should we order from? Website? Do they no longer play flat and are the strengths labeled properly (since they are usually way harder than the indicated strength). How do we know which ones are the new versions if we order? The red string ones were ok but the purple string ones were awful.
Hi G J - thank you for your comment. Our artist and student reeds can be found online and in many music stores across the country. We've significantly changed our production process these past few years and we hope you enjoy trying the New Jones. Where were you looking to purchase?
What if my reed is playing sharp?
Pull your bocal up
If it is sharp, it could mean a couple things! You might be pinching the reed too much while you play, make sure that the corners of your lips are pulled inward and keep your embouchure as "tall" and relaxed as possible. If it is your reed, you might experiment with squeezing the 1st wire top to bottom slightly with pliers and see if it that makes any difference. Hope that helps. :)
I have a long “cut” to the middle of my reed. Can this still fix it?
If you want me to I can post a video of it on my channel so you can see it

Simple and effective skills! Thanks for sharing~
Thank you, Chaolymer! We are so glad you are enjoying our videos.
What can I use in place of fingernail polish?
In place of fingernail polish, you may use Duco cement. However, nail polish may be less toxic than cement which is why we recommend nail polish. Good question, thank you!
Clear fingernail polish?
How long should I soak it? Just generally speaking.
Tectonic Beatbox About 3 minutes. A good rule of thumb is to start soaking it before you start assembling the bassoon. It is possible to over-soak a reed.
I recommend Denture Cleanser (Polident, Efferdent)... The effervescence extracts gunk and particles from the fibers and re-vitalizes the reed. Also works for bocal cleaning.
