Mix Turners Yellow with Naphthol Red and a smidge of white for a truly shocking surprise. (*As a side, Turners Yellow so far seems to be an affordable alternative to Genuine Naples and Cad Yellow. I'm not too keen on the greens it creates, but for paintings where light is scattering off of buildings, it's a dream.) Also, if you're reading Micheal, do consider releasing Potters Pink. Some of us collect dirty, earth pigments like Pokemon Cards.

Lead white is the future of oil paintings. The point is that there is no need to use as much of it as before because there are so many other options to create effective binding pigments. If too much is used that results in cracking. If you use walnut oil and lead white that should be fine as long as you keep the painting elsewhere and sleep elsewhere while it is drying. Also make sure there is an open window somewhere and then you are ok.

Don’t forget van Gogh and his brother suffered from veneral disease which would not only be depressing but fatal at the time. Treatments included using mercury could only make things worse.

Every time I hear a "recipe" like THAT I think who? Who was the first person to DO that and for God's sake why? You don't just accidently stack lead coils, over vinegar and suspend it over horse poop, and wait... Oh look, pretty paint.

Titanium & zinc whites will never replace the qualities that make lead white special. Today, we don’t have to mix our own paints. Cadmium’s are also incredibly toxic. But again, if it’s already bound with oil in a tube, and you’re not a messy painter, it’s safe to work with 🤍

I used to use zinc white an oils and I used to get nauseous and I couldn't figure out why until I realized it was the paint and had to stop using it. Then someone told me to use titanium white which was so much brighter and did not affect me at all- and the rest as they say is history! 🤔😳🤩🤗🤍🌹

Great video; very interesting artist and wow, what an evocative subject - wonderful paintings! I remember seeing an MA show at the Royal College of Art some years ago and the one piece of work that struck me was a beautiful drawing of a 1960's house that make up the ubiquitous housing estate that Andrew's work depicts. They (the estate) speak volumes about the UK. Thanks Jackson's, and well deserved Andrew Torr!

Funny story: one of my father’s paintings ended up in a local museum. The plaque said his art reflected on the cultural bankruptcy of the tourist area in the mid 1990s by deliberately flattening and anonymising the figures he depicted. When I told him about that, his response basically “Lol what?” He thought that was accurate, but he wasn’t thinking that at all when he made it. His journalist mother must have helped him write that out. So yeah. Lesson of the day: BSing is valid.

I've seen a relief from him entirely painted in this blue. It almost hurt my eyes but it was impossible not to look at it. Fascinating. I was always biased towards ultramarine blue but this particular shade is even more intriguing.
