I can't believe I watched this entire video - excitedly I might add. Wow, thank you so much for this info! Every indie dev needs to watch this!
Agreed :)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW Glorious EoFS comeback! : O
Illuminating talk, thanks!
Rich aristocrat 😅
Well done, Robin.
Lots of good info
Thank you so much for doing this interview with Kimberly! This was wonderful! Would it be possible to change the name to "The Athena Alliance CLT"? We work in esports, but it's not currently in our name
Done
@@GgdaOrganic Thank you so so much, it's very appreciated!
This is a good example of "if A->B" does NOT mean B->A the author did not take into account for each category , how hard is it to build a good game of that Genre , and how many people built one , but then concluded "in order to success you need to build a rogue like deckbuilder open world , with crafting to success ... and thats why our AAA industry mostly suck , and you need people like larian or arrow head to lead us forward to , we will make what we think is good , we will do it good and fuck everything else.
is this the same version at GOG games or a newer one?
This is the demo that is free on both Steam and GOG
@@GgdaOrganic thanks im gonna buy it in gog, just wanted to know if it was this version
@@Crystalwizardtrue You can also wishlist it on Steam :)
@@GgdaOrganic bought it on gog but ill also wishlist it on steam if that helps any, having a great time with the game!
I freaking love this game
Update: Anyone listening in the future, the wishlist has been updated, they care about how fast you can get those 7000wishlists. (Got this info from the choo choo Charles developer)
Great 90s game, but are there any plans to remake it for the modern times ?
What would you like to see in a new version?
@@HDIAndrew1 Build queue loop waypoints to know if an AI be likely to accept a trade deal or to rework the trade table mechanic as the whole system kind of feels old at this day an age some way to arrange transport from one hex on one planet to another plant hex a faster way load in units into transport a faster way to explore planet in the later part of the game to know how much a mine would get without having an engineer in location maybe a limit on how long a battle can last, surely there are some other points that could be improved
My ladder is made of crap. All the reachable rungs are rotten and vanished into dust. Everyday I try to jump to reach the other ones, but I can't jump higher than my maximum. And I can't afford buying a new ladder
Great to replay this epic classic again.
Ratatosk, the squirrel tale-bearer, demands it :)

Very beautiful painting
Still waiting for my Dervish's....
All right, time for Prince Alexius to begin researching the line that will bring about legions of Eskatonic Dervishes
I just discovered this game, and now I am very intrigued.
The developer is supposed to conduct another livestream at 3 pm EST on May 5 on this channel
i can’t believe this video exists and only has 75 views. this game was an incredible little gem and was a huge part of my childhood
Thanks for your help in letting people know about it!
pretty cool
i dont know who yall are but this randomly popped up in my recs and i have to stan empowering women in gaming spaces lets go girls!!!!!!!
In that case, you may also enjoy these videos on how to break into game development: kzread.info/dash/bejne/naWsrY98XZnYZqQ.html and on a top female streamer who is working to build her own network: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gHyZx9uKf7TgmrQ.html
Thank you for being so supportive Lana! We do content on our KZread channel, and game nights in our discord server.
Amazing vid super informational. I love u Chris.
So... after your game is released, and you haven't gotten past the bodyguard, is everything ruined?
Ya, for the most part unfortunately :( I mean update it a few time. Keep entering it into sales, try for festivals. But the market makes up its mind pretty fast. Keep at it though. It takes multiple games before you really figure out how to make them and just the time it takes for people in the industry to learn about you.
This is a great video. If I become successful a year from now, I'm crediting this video.
Let us know!
Great interview!
Agreed
WOW that’s so cute 🥰
People do like the genres such as platformers, they just want a quality game (No 2D platformers, no direct clones, no quick 1 month games etc. Just put effort in it, youll find itll sell)
If you wouldnt play/buy it, wouldnt expect another too
This talk was extremely refreshing to see.
Great video! Thank you
Unhinged xD I suscribed
Welcome
How is this connected to game development???
Good question. We find the relationship between influencer and game dev more and more important every day. The amount of publicity, wishlists and sales an indie game can get from being featured by a good KZreadr is often unobtainable any other way. Tygarlily's efforts to publicize indie games via her streamer network has provided significant benefit to the devs thus featured, and it is important for all devs to understand how these relationships work.
How about making free to play as an indie? Im kinda opposed to charging for games but im not insane or rich enough to make them actually free
I totally remember the original demo😂
I hope you enjoy playing this one when we get it up on Steam
Even though this is an example of an "amateur" trailer it was enough to whet my appetite for a juicy space 4x game. I've always been curious about EotFS. It's on sale on Good Old Games as well, I just might pick it up 😁
You can get it on GOG AND wishlist it on Steam store.steampowered.com/app/2799350/Emperor_of_the_Fading_Suns_Enhanced/
@@HDIAndrew1 You convinced me to hold off, I'll wait for the Steam Enhanced Edition since it has achievements and bug fixes. This is awesome!
@@therexbellator I am all in favor of you getting it both places :) Development on the GOG and Steam versions will continue to parallel each other except where that is impossible (Steam achievements, for instance). In other words, we are working to keep both versions as similar as possible, except where we cannot. The goal is to ensure you can enjoy multiplayer with both versions, the game saves stay compatible, and friends can play a single game with players on either system.
Well, its a step up from the original promotional campaign (but thats not a high bar to reach). It is, however, not the intro video which does a great job of setting the tone. Maybe it just needs a more British-y voice-over?
Hey now, I've always liked those kittens...
This is always an interesting balancing act - how much gameplay versus how much flavor? If you check out the Steam page, you will see that the cinematic trailer is the last thing on the screen shot slide show. Should we make it more prominent? store.steampowered.com/app/2799350/Emperor_of_the_Fading_Suns_Enhanced/
@@HDIAndrew1 As just a fun aside, someone recently made a 4K AI remaster of the opening video. Although I can't quite seem to find it at the moment....
@@mnaglich Would love to see it. Was it done with an English accent ;) Also, here is the IMDB listing for the actor who did the original trailer with us www.imdb.com/name/nm0876305/
@@HDIAndrew1 Oh yes, with the original voice. Just AI upscaled. The video is private again, let me see if i can tease it out of the creator....
Wish you all the best. I will buy a second copy even!
Easier to get multiplayer games going that way :)
omg, yees!
Michelle Menard is such a card 🥸
Ace of Diamonds!
Are festivals the same as conferences in this context? Or like online festivals of some kind? I'm new to this and not sure.
The festivals discussed here are generally online events like the Steam Next Fest. We still recommend showing your game at in-person conferences like DreamHack and Momocon as well. Not only do those give you exposure, but you get great first-hand feedback
As someone who loves horse games. 100%, there's money to be made with a good horse game.
Are you also excited for that Khiimori horse game coming in September? 😊
How about AI generated images for the steam capsules?
It’s technically against the rules if you can’t prove you own the rights to every image of the AI model’s database. They are being careful with generative ai right now.
Ai is very dubiously legal, and a sizable number of players will simply not buy your game if it has AI art. You can do it, but it might not be the greatest idea
Chris: There's no secret thing! It's all about having a great game! Also chris: Psst... psst... make a horse game kiddo, just trust me... go!
Great talk :) Please next time add even som simple external mic so it will be much more pleasure to watch :)
Steam is Tinder for games.
He looks like Ryan Gosling
This was such a great talk, it's just such a pity the audio quality is terrible. I watched the video with the volume down and auto CC enabled
And now I`m watching this after passing of dragon ball creator...
most obvious diversity hire ever.
Great job Chris. One of the most enjoyable presentations I've listened to. Great energy.
I like to toy with the idea of making my own rpg, but ya' know, I probably will never finish it... But for a few months, I obsessed over how to make it both unique, interactive, and to fit the tone of the game... It was a dark monsterhunting game a bit like Vaetian but not so married to the spirit premise. Also, I had yet to learn about Vaetian. But, so, I wanted it classless and levelless. You got better at skills by rolling well and putting a point in one of the three tiers of skills (the broades taking 5, the narrowest taking 3) and once you had the required points that skill improved by one. But see, I ended up with what I started calling a variable-dice-pool, target-number system. Where there's a target number (like D&D), but you're aiming for it with a pool of various dice... You always rolled 3 dice, but the type of die depended on how good each tier of your skill was. Now, this was a *terrible* system in the end because I wanted a smooth curve from 1d1 (+1) to 1d13 (1d8, reroll 8, 1d4 1-2, add nothing, 3-4, add 7; if the total is 14 reroll everything)... See the problem? Now imagine you had three 1d13s... Or maybe a 1d4, 1d8, and a 1d13. It would be a nightmare. Although, interestingly, I found that multiplying results by 11 and 33 got to pretty close approximations of real-world... I think. It was just a weird thing I found when looking up maximums for lifting, throwing, and running and trying to see how it would line up to my system. But, yeah, it would be a bad system to try and use. I then thought, what if I limited it to even numbers, keeping a +1 as the minimum? So 1d1, 1d2, 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12... Eh, it's closer. Or what if I scrapped the target numbers and instead did a true dice pool with success thresholds? And then, also, the better your skill, the smaller your dice? But then the problem is 3 successes are the best you can do... Hm... Maybe also have a sort of critical success? My latest idea, which I never recorded, was the maximum of a die -1 is a success, the maximum is a critical succes which counts as 2 success (so 6 success max)... And that's the system. But see, the problem is I wanted monsters to have a way to just be stronger than players... I guess I could just give them more dice... Huh... I, uh, I just thought of that just now. Anyway, I really like dice systems. They interest me greatly.
