This channel is about daily activities that go on in and around our camp on a lake in a remote part of central Nova Scotia.
Being sort of isolated these activities include trying to be as self sufficient as my wife and I can be. We make, create, re-use, re-purpose as much as we can. Activities will include such things as: carpentry, wood work, mechanical repairs and maintenance, plumbing, gardening, canning, home crafts, tractor work, yard work, water-born activities, ATV riding, and generally anything that we can tackle in the great outdoors.

Hey Mike, , , I like it ! With funcion and durability it's a winner. You have a multi function shop and we both know wood and metals (clean or oily) don't mix well at all. A drop of oil or a dirty finger leaving a fingerprint can ruin a project of wood. This fence/bed cover solves that by easily removing the cover drill the oiled piece. A quick wipedown and put the cover back on. The fence can act as a stop for holding pieces from spinning and the edges make for easier clamping. I am sure others will see different ideas and uses from their prospectis. A win, win, winer for sure bud. All my best to Nannie J of course and you take care too old friend.
Very nice job on the table bud looks like you covered every angle when building the table thanks for sharing have a great week
How's she goin'? Thanks Tom. I wish I could take credit for the design but I got it from a 'Fine Woodworking' magazine. It sure is a nice add for the drill press. Take 'er easy!!
That's an interesting table. Thanks for your excellent overview. Thumbs up!
Oh wow, grampy. This thing is really cool. Well done I can see where this could really become handy
How's she goin'? Thanks for the nice comments. I like this table and it sure has gotten a lot of use and abuse over the years! Take 'er easy!
Great drill press table ! I'm in the process of building a miter saw & drill press station with a 5 bank of drawers under work bench.taking up a lot of wall space in my 2 car garage a little over whellming!!!.say hi to nanny for us.
How's she goin'? Thanks Greg and I'll be sure to tell Nannie you said hello!! Your drill press/miter saw station sounds like a great project. I'd like to see some pics of that! Take 'er easy!
Very nice idea for a drill table Mike , that will be very helpful on your future projects. Cheers
How's she goin'? Thanks Lloyd! This drill press table sure is a 'nice to have' in the shop! Take 'er easy!!
Nice and handy work, Mike. Sure looks like a good ad on to a drill press…..CHEERS
How's she goin'? Thanks Gator. Even after 40 years I still think this is a great addition to the drill press. Take care!
I've never really noticed your drill press table till now. Very nice indeed. I especially like the inner chamber you can connect a vacuum to. The only thing I'd add would be one or more strong magnets flush mounted. Good for catching metal shavings when drilling steel. Very nice build, mike
How's she goin'? Good idea about the magnets Bruce. Since I use this drill press for both metal and wood, that would be a good mod to make! Take 'er easy!!
A cool tool. That has to be one tough machine for the hours you have used it and the work it has done. When you buy a quality machine, it will last and you can always buy parts. Was there a cheap choice when you made your purchase? Yours is the type of tiller I would look for. We used a tiller my dad put together for years. The engine was so old it had a magneto, I wrapped a rope around the pulley and it would always fire up. Thanks Mike. Stevo
How's she goin'? Thanks for the comment Stevo! This wasn't the cheapest Troy-Bilt tiller but even back then the cheap ones were well made and rugged. Your dad's tiller sounds like a real beast!! I bet it's still working somewheres e@!! Take 'er easy!!
I just hope the youth of the world watch this because this is a life skill. But then again they would just buy a new one. Repair is becoming a lost art. Good fix Mike. Stevo
How's she goin'? That's a good point you make Stevo. I once had a dream of starting a little business. It was going to be a 'fix it' shop. But when you see the quality of so many 'appliances and tools' these days, a lot of them aren't worth fixing and the rest, like you say, get thrown out and replaced rather than repaired. Sad really eh! Take 'er easy!!
Very functional table Mike. I like that it provides a lot more work surface. Thanks for sharing!
How's she goin'? Thanks Paul. When I decided to make this way back when, the bigger work surface was not even on my mind, but it was a nice plus once I had it! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Fine table my friend. Great job of explaining everything. Always look forward to your videos. Prayers for Nannie.
How's she goin'? Thank you for the prayers for Nannie! She is getting stronger each day and it's some nice too see!! I really like this table and it was a project I would do again in a heart beat!! Take 'er easy!!
I'd have that top all drilled with holes in a week. Fine Woodworking is a fantastic magazine and they have some mouthwatering projects in them. The dust collecting port is another good idea. As I said, I'd have it wrecked in no time because I'd be drilling steel and all sorts of things that shouldn't be on there. As a friend of mine always says, " I'm as rough as guts." You, Sir, on the other hand, have five fingers (ok, four and a thumb). You do nice work Mike...the likes of which I wish I could do. As always, hello to nanny, a pet for the squirrels and Be Good!
How's she goin'? I used to get Fine Woodworking magazines and read them all the time. But then I realized that reading about woodworking doesn't make you any better at doing woodworking! LOL BTW I have a vice and a wooden block for drilling metal on this press, just to save the table!! Every solution has a problem!!! LOL The squirrels aren't to interested in getting pets these days. Not too sure why!! They are getting kind of upitdy since I cut down all their trees!! Take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshopI also liked the Fine Homebuilding magazine. It was put out by the same people, I believe. Most magazines, however, have gone online. The death of a once vibrant industry. I used to give magazine subscriptions as gifts, but sorry to say, Mike, this year you're getting an E-card! LOL
@@EverydayProjects The e-card is fine as long it has the e-transfer in it with the password!!
Thats a useful adaptation to the drill press! It's got to be a good design for you to be still using it after all these years! Thanks for showing Mike✌
How's she goin'? Thansk Marc!! I do like this table and even after 40 years it still is a nice thing to have on the drill press. Thanks a lot for commenting. Take 'er easy!!
Funny you would make this video. I'm about to purchase my first ever floor drill press. The auxillary table will be a great addition for the drilling process. Thanks for the video, Mike. BTW, it's also been hotter than the dickens down here in North Carolina with very little relief. Take it easy my friend. Don 👍🏽🤠
How's she goin'? I guess the timing of this video worked out for you eh!! That's great. I hope you're pleased with your new drill press. The heat has got us up here too Don. The heat index last week was 51 degrees C. It was so hot even the devil had the AC on high!! LOL Take er easy!!
Hey Mike , very nice table for the drill press . Thank you for sharing . 👍🏻
How's she goin'? Thanks Del. I made this a long time ago and it is still some nice addition to the drill press. I hope all is well in your world!! Take 'er easy!!
You are a man of many jigs.
Good video.the table Jas seen lots of use over the years and still looks great.
I think you gave me a gift card for these materials for Christmas one year and I built the work bench and this table. So thanks again. Love ya!!
Nice table . I wish my wood working skills were half as good as yours. One question why do you have that what looks like masking tape on your overhead door? I hope everyone is doing well. Continued prayers for you and Nannie.
How's she goin'? Thanks for your continued prayers for Nannie. She is doing better these days, but it's still a slow process!! That was nice of you to say about my woodworking skills Ronnie. Thanks for that too. If you are talking about the green masking tape on the garage roll up door, well I put that on there for my grandson to practice is hockey shooting. I have to say though, he hasn't used it much as he had a better set up at his own house!! LOL Thanks for the visit tonight. Take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop newer know your grandson might be a NHL hockey player down the road...
Nice table Mike. I had noticed it before in one of your videos. Looks very handy and practical. Hope you and Janet are well! Lots of rain and tornadoes here! 👍
Hello there Roger!! Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes for Nannie. She is doing pretty good these days. Yikes, I don't like the 'tornados' part of your weather. I sure hope you folks are all doing good and there are no injuries or major damages done. Take care!!
Good looking table and it obviously stood the test of time 👍
How's she goin'? It sure has stood the test of time Dave. I thought maybe it was because it was so well built, but I think it's just that it's simple and well designed by the folks at 'Fine Woodworking' magazine!! LOL Take care!!
That's a nice table, Mike. I saw a nice little drill press for sale last week. I was tempted to buy it but I don't have the space for it and I don't need another tool rusting away in my barn! I hope Nannie is continuing with her improvements.
How's she goin'? Thanks for the kind thoughts for Nannie Rick. She is making steady improvements now I'd say! This drill press table has been a great add in my shop for many many years!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Good evening Mike, Good of you to make this video. The table is very versatile and useful. Great design. And you did not great job explaining the build. Hope you and Nannie are enjoying your week, Ben 👋😎👍🍻
How's she goin'? This table is very handy to have but I sure didn't design it!! I like that it can be attached to a vacuum though, that comes in handy lots of times. Nannie is doing pretty good the last while Ben. I hope you are having a great summer. Take 'er easy!!
Nice mike, very well thought out. I like the sides and fence. Cheers mike
How's she goin'? This drill press table has been very useful and handy to have. I'm glad I made it all those years ago!! Take 'er easy!!
Grampie's been EPIC for at least 30 years!
How's she goin'? I was wondering if the 'epic' title would get your attention! LOL Thanks for the nice comments. Take 'er easy!!
Hi Mike 👋, you sure are a skilful person working on wood well done
How's she goin'? Thanks Neville. My fist love was wood working and I sort of morphed into mechanical work due to necessity!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Great table Mike. I’m sure with your skills you could have built that with out plans. 👍🏻👍🏻 You and Nannie have a great week. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
How's she goin'? Thanks Noel. You're way to kind buddy. I do like this table. It has served me well for many years!! Take 'er easy!!
Thank you very much Mike for taking the time out of your day to make this video... That was helpful with all the measurements included... I will be starting to make one for my shop soon... Take care and Thanks again
Hello there Jack! No problem. I'm glad you asked about the table because I had it for so long I would never have thought of making a video about it!! I hope, if you make a table for your drill press, it works out good for ya!! Take 'er easy!!
Nice table Mike 👍🏻, it’s a great idea. I’m currently adding stuff for my router table, I might do the drill press next 👍🏻. Have a great week Mike and Nannie 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️🙂🇨🇦
Salut Luc!!! It's some nice to have power tools in our shop, but if we can make some little adds here and there it sure makes the power tools more useful and then our work output is better too hopefully!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop So right Mike, I’ve caught the woodworking bug again and have a bunch of fun 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️🙂🇨🇦🍻
That is nice I like that design! I bet it works great! We are always praying for you and Nannie 🙏🙏🙏
How's she goin'? Many thanks for your continued prayers for Nannie Mike. It is sure reassuring knowing your prayers are there!! This drill press table has served me well for a long time. Take 'er easy!!
Turned out nice Mike. Great for precise woodworking 👍
How's she goin'? Yes Steve, much better for wood work than metal work, but it will work for both. Take 'er easy!!
Nice video Mike
Hello there Bob. Thanks my friend. Take 'er easy!!
Great project!
How's she goin'? Thanks Buddy! Just a simple little thing but makes a big difference on the desk eh!! Take 'er easy!!
Yes Mike just a little tuning up but those were awesome tillers :) 👍Nice that you explained all the options that it had ! Hope you & Nannie are keeping well
How's she goin'? Thanks Don. This was a pretty fancy tiller in it's day. And you can't say anything more about the build quality, it was made to outlast it's owners!! Nannie is doing a bit better each day now and I hope you're getting better each day too!! Time heals a lot of things eh!! Take 'er easy!!
Hello Grampie. I remember how well built those machines were. What ever you do don't buy a new one LOL 😂. Take care my friend 🙏🔧👍
Hello there Artie. A new one would certainly not be much in comparison to these old girls eh!! They were, and still are, rugged machines that were built to last for ever!! Take 'er easy!!
I am back and looking forward to catching up with your videos, I hope you and Nannie are good. I really like your tiller, it is a cool machine and looks well made. I think you are right to call it a tractor, we would call it a walk-behind tractor
How's she goin'? Great to see you back again. I hope your end of year schooling turns out good for you!! Nannie is making slow and steady progress, thanks for asking!! In it's day Joseph, these tillers were 'tractors' And a walk behind tractor is a great name for it!! Thanks for dropping by and take 'er easy!!
I have used one before they were top of the line all the best Mike
How's she goin'? Yes sir Russell. These tillers sure were well made and built to last forever!! Take 'er easy!!
Good that you changed out the Tecumseh after it was bored. No need to keep a motor that you're bored with. You've shrunk in size since you tilled with this 40 years ago (".....the handles used to be at your waist...now they're at your chest" ~~ Happens in the best of families, Mike. No worries. We all shrink as we age) The reverse function was a surprise. I thought you were going to say to go in reverse, turn around and go the other way. One question: You said it was a machine and a half. Where's the other half?? I've used but never owned a Tiller. That's because I don't like to stir things up. You know that about me ! AS always, take care, hello to Nanny and BE Good!
How's she goin'? Ha Ha Ha! I haven't really shrunk. It's all done with cameras and mirrors ya know. It makes me look more solid and sturdy!! LOL It sure is a tiller and a half and the other half is me!! Man do I have to explain everything to you? LOL Take 'er easy!!
@@GrampiesWorkshop Explanation accepted. You are now like all my bosses and teachers throughout life who have said that " Craig works best under constant supervision." LOL
I fixed mine with a plastic tie wrap. Just threaded the tie wrap thru the hole in chasis. Took 2 minutes and it is not a temp job. It is permanent.
How's she goin'? Sounds like s good fix and I'm glad it worked for ya. Thanks too for checking out my video. I appreciate it!! Take 'er easy!!
Hi Mike, tidy looking machine for its age, they do make a good job once you get the tine's well into the soil 👍
How's she goin'? Thanks Neville. The soil behind this tiller always looked so nice too as the flap on the back of the hood over the tines smoothed everything out so nice. Thanks for the comment. Have a great week end!!
Troy Bilts are the best. Thanks for showing us yours! I had one for a few years, but traded it for something. Who can remember! Cheers!
How's she goin'? The Old Troy- Bilt tillers were some solid and built to last forever!!! Thanks for the visit and take'er easy
I have a Troy Bilt generator I bought new in 2011. It's been extremely reliable. Its been thru 1 hurricane (Irene), 1 superstorm (Sandy), another hurricane remnant, and maybe a dozen nor'easters. No complaints. I've moved out of NJ to a rural property in Pennsylvania, and I'm very glad I went thru the trouble of taking it with me. I hope you and Nannie are both doing well. Thanks for posting and thumbs up.
Good day buddy nice old machine they don't build them like that anymore thank for showing and explaining it to us take care have a great weekend
How's she goin'? In it's day Tom, this machine as pretty advanced and it was some easy to use with the forward rotating tines too. It'll be around for many years to come I'm sure. Thanks for commenting. Have a great week end!!
Looks like a solid machine 👍
How's she goin'? This sure was/is a rugged piece of gear Dave. I think will till the soil over my grave before it's finished!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
Bonjour Mon Ami, this is a multi Missions Tasking ( tiling, blower, wood splitter,,, ) Very Nice Options and Very Well Detail Video about that Truy Bilt Tiller Tractor ( Cadilac !!! ) Verry Nice and have a nice weel end and you are both in my prayer Cheers 🍻🍻
Comment ca va mon ami? Dave there was no snow blower attachment for this tiller. But they had several attachments that could be added on the rear. It was, and will be again, a nice tiller. Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers Dave. A la prochaine!!
I could see it was a replacement engine right away but that's no biggy. I recently rented a mid sized front tiller to do some landscaping last fall. Next time I'll spend five minutes looking on Facebook marketplace and buy and old one. Those machines will outlive us all, the newer models are weak and too light weight
How's she goin'? The original engine died but that was my fault. Way back when I first had the tiller I was still working and had no time to devout the maintenance to it. I don't think I changed the oil for the first 6 years! LOL This new engine is working great, or it was anyways. I expect it will again. Take 'er easy!!
Those a fine machines. I bet there will be more 1980 TroyBilt machines running in 2030 than 2020 TroyBilt. I have a TroyBilt 42" mower. They are now made by Murray. Nice machine but much lighter weight than the older TroyBilt. Too much plastic. No trans only a forward and reverse box and Reeves style belt pulley to control the speed.
How's she goin'? Dave when I bought this tiller there was a salesman/technician from the factory in Troy who dealt directly with me. And this was way before e:mails so it was all phone calls. This was normal too. Great customer service and support. The manuals they provided with every purchase allowed for even a person with minimal mechanical skills to look after the tiller. They were definitely meant to last a life time!! Take care!!
Pretty nice machine. They don't build them like they used to and that goes for about everything. Enjoyed seeing it. Will keep praying for you and Nannie and I'll see you on the next one.
How's she goin'? Thanks for your continued prayers Ronnie. Nannie is starting to make nice gains each day!! This tiller was a Cadillac for sure and you're right on, they sure don't make them , or much of anything, like this anymore!! Take 'er easy and God Bless you!!!
They don't make em like that anymore
How's she goin'? That's a fact Kenny. This tiller and me, golden oldies!! LOL Take care!!
