Have you played Alien Vs Predator? Great arcade 1994 beatem up
Yes, I love that too. I'm capturing some arcade games now for a 1992 video.
If you want a suggestion The Punisher arcade for 1993 is an amazing beatem up
I love that game. Good call. 👍
Turrican was for the Amiga not the Genesis
It was released on amiga in 1990, Mega Drive in 1991.
Was one of the bosses in Spiderman vs Kingpin a guy on a fork lift?
Kinda a mini boss.
Thank you so much fot this video
Thanks so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Gloc Air Battle is a spiritual succesor the Afterburner games. Having fun playing it at the moment ( controls take getting used to)
I think I vaguely remember that one. I'm glad you are having fun with it. Do you like these smaller 5 game videos?
Next: Top 40 video games from 1992
I'm recording for it at the minute. Got about 10 more games to capture. 😃
Tecmo Super Bowl isn’t on the list? Ok…
I forgot about that one. I love that game
I just discover your channel and its awesome, congrats and i wish you success
That's nice of you to say. Welcome! What games / consoles etc are you into?
@@GamesByYear i love from nes to Gamecube and from ps1 to ps2 :) cheers
Did Carrier Air Wing just pulled out a 9/11?
Final Fight was in 1989.
Snes version in 1990.
Это просто хорошие игры но тут нет не одной лучшей
I played most of these. So happy to see Dragons Fury here and also Road Rash. But you have so many others like Super Castlevania 4 and many more here. Such a great list of games. Great year as well!
Sonic game of the year
GREAT YEAR
I've played everything here except Infamous & Mario Wonder. All the rest are great games. I remember going through Super Metroid and being amazed at that game. Castlevania Symphony was so damn good. All of these are so damn good lol Loving this series dude! Hope to see more on the way
Why would Starfox be a must play game when Lylat Wars was the same game but much better in every way?
Star Fox was such a big deal for me when it first released. I think it's important to see where franchises came from even if it's not the best one. Lylat Wars/Star Fox 64 will be in a future must play video.
It's a very different game even if it technically is a remake.
@@magicjohnson3121 Name one thing that the snes version does that the 64 doesn't.
Another great list! Only 2 games on this one I haven’t played!
Love it when you do these big lists. I counted that I’ve only played 19 of them 🤦🏻♂️
Love crazy taxi. Have you played taxi chaos? An indi game I bought last year.🚕🚖
I haven't tried that. I'm going to look it up and try it out.
Wonder Boy 3 and Duck Tales are good, but they are overrated. Wonder Boy 3 has a flat and repetitive level design for an exploration-based game (also the grinding can be tedious at times). On the other hand, Duck Tales is very short, especially once you beat it the first time and know the shortcuts to get to the boss.
I've so many good memories with those games. I actually enjoyed Duck Tales' short length when I was playing it for this video. It's a nice game to revisit for a quick blast. Any games you'd recommend I try?
@@GamesByYear Project Doom of NES for example.
SF2 redefined the whole genre of fighting games. After it came out a whole bunch of copycats came out. I pick it as one of my favorite games of all time.
Does "Carrier Air Wing" has anything to do with "U.N. Squadron"?
It was the spiritual successor as far as I'm aware. They are both quite similar.
Did Super Soccer just make the top 40 of _all_ games released in 1991? Oh I just translated what you meant by "ranked". You are going on your own _personal_ experience. Also only Mega Drive and SNES.
Not a fan of Super Soccer I take it? I love the game.
@@GamesByYear Well when I started the comment I was under the impression you were suggesting the list was definitive.
@@GamesByYear as for soccer games (or football as we like to call it), Super Soccer isn't very high on my list. But for 1991, I honestly don't know. Was FIFA out at least?
@iwanttocomplain Fifa was 93 if I remember right. I did prefer that and Sensible Soccer over Super Soccer but it would have been my favourite football game for that year.
@iwanttocomplain lots of good folk have been sharing their favourites and giving me recommendations, so I guess these lists will change over time as I discover/remember other great games.
Tank Force is a cool one for 1991 not on this list
Never played that. I must check it out.
Ghouls N Ghost yeah!!! By the way, someone is updating the graphics for the genesis. It blows the supergrafx version away. Just look for Ghouls N Ghost Amaru
I gotta tell my brother about Ninja Golf LOL!!!
It's such a weird concept for a game but it works. It would have made the PGA games a lot more entertaining if you got to fight people along the way. 😆
Man this channel bring back so many good memories. I'm afraid I'll have to watch every single one of them to check out which games I missed out on.
I make plenty of these smaller, easy to watch videos. I hope you see some stuff you like. Feel free to let me know what I've missed. Always happy to play and add new games to the video collection
When I saw SF2 for the first time in 1991, blew my 10 year old mind. It had me fetching quarters all day tryna play it.
Same here. I remember it being such a big deal when it came to the Super Nintendo. I was definitely excited to play it at home for the first time.
@@GamesByYear I couldn't wait for the snes version. We grabbed the super famicom Street Fighter 2 w honey bee adaptor months before the American release. What tripped us out was that the boss names were rearranged from the arcades. Balrog = M. BISON. Vega = Balrog. M. BISON = Vega.
I believe Street Fighter 2 is the greatest arcade game of all time.
Same. The concept of special moves such as “charging back then forward plus punch” is out of this world. How can the same directional buttons when pressed for different periods and order result to different moves? How can the computer tell you’re not just crouching or walking but really doing something else
@@jambibaub8753 I approach every fighting game today by testing Street Fighter moves to see if they work or not. Those button combos are etched into my brain. 😆
The game ranked at #19 was not released in Europe until in 2022, as part of a retro collection (which also contains the game ranked at #2). I played it when it first came out. There’s a modern sequel available on multiple platforms.
Microsoft owns the franchise started by the game ranked at #27, which is known for its difficulty. It has a fanservicy female villain. The difficulty was toned down for its later Japanese release, which served as the basis for the Sega Genesis version.
You got more than half of these wrong😂 Who the fuck likes slow ass contra music and gameplay in the form of probotectors🤣
Here's my list.... Pacman Adventure Super Mario Bros Alex Kidd in Miracle World Legend Of Zelda Metroid Out Run Ridge Racer Final Fantasy 7 Metal Gear Solid Resident Evil Double Dragon Life Force Galaxy Force StarFox Ghouls N Ghost Street Fighter 2 Guitar Hero 2 Tetris Minecraft
That's a good list. I love all the games here. The only one I don't have anymore and can't capture is Guitar Hero 2. 😢
The game ranked at #1 in this video was developed by the same dev team as the one ranked at #1 in the video for 1990.
That's right. Great eye for the details. You can see who makes some of my most favourite games now.
@@GamesByYear They were released in Japan exactly a year apart.
I had to wait until 1992 for the Super Nintendo to be released here sadly.
@@GamesByYear Therefore, you live in Europe. I live in North America.
I was always jealous of North American Gamers growing up. 😆
My favorite is the one ranked at #3.
It's definitely a special one. It's hard to choose between these games.
@@GamesByYearThat game was not released in Europe until the PlayStation port in 2001, where it was package with its successor from 1992, which previously never left Japan. It predates the games ranked in the top 2 in this video. The game ranked at #1 was released very late in the year.
I was obsessed with Midnight Resistance on MD. The arcade controls were to loose and difficult to aim right.
I don't think it released where I am originally so I didn't get to play it until it came to Evercade. One of my favourites on the Mega Drive now.
@@GamesByYear I played the arcade vsn on a data easy 1/4 arcade unit. Where abouts do you hail from?
I'm from the UK so I missed out on a lot of great games in the 80s and 90s . I'm playing catch up now with a lot. I'm glad they re released some games like Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG and the older Final Fantasy games.
@@GamesByYear My brother loved the phantasy star series. Try giving them a spin.
I've played a little of some of those and loved them. I used to play Phantasy Star online on Dreamcast a lot. Some good times. Any other games or years you would like to see me cover?
That's a good year!🍷🍾
Forgot how good the 80s were, especially the late 80s.
In Alien Storm, the characters from Golden Axe went to the future!!!! 😂😂😂
Pretty much. The Golden Axe formula would work on any Planet or Era. I wish there were more games like it today.
Sakurai reckons 1986 is the best year
A lot of great franchises started that year.
So many happy memories of Alex Kidd when I was a boy.🎮
Took me a while before I realised it was built into my master system. It was a nice surprise. 😆
@@GamesByYear OG MS or MS#2?
@@darrancoyle8394 OG Master System if I remember right.
@@GamesByYear What's your all-time face Castlevania?🦇⛓️🗡️♥️
@darrancoyle8394 Symphony of the Night is usually the safe bet, but I'd have to maybe pick Super Castlevania IV. What about you?
Road rash!
I'll put that in the next part. I love that game too.
New sub!
Glad to have you here. Welcome. What kind of games and consoles are you a fan of?
Hard to pick a fave out of so many classics.
That's exactly the problem I have making these videos. Any games that you'd recommend adding to future videos? Doesn't matter if its old or new.
@@GamesByYear I'll check my emu and get back to you.
Sounds good. I discover some games I've missed out on or forgotten from people's comments. I'm always happy to add other people's favourites.
True. That's why I made my list according to which game really got me hooked and made me start playing a certain type of genre.
Is this the same as "games you must play before you die"?
Kinda the same, yeah. I'm going to keep it more retro at the start and introduce more new games over time. Was the video OK?
It was ok
@@magicjohnson3121 is there anything you want in the next one?
I've never played those games.
1995 do Mega Drive foi espetacular: Comix Zone, Ristar, Vectorman, X-Men 2 Clone Wars, MK3, Road Rash 3, Earthworm Jim 2, Gargoyles, Garfield, Light Crusader, Desert Demolation, Donald in Maui Mallard, Ecco Jr. e Alien Soldier.
This was a very special time here in Brazil. 3rd gen consoles had been in the market for only a year (licensed Master System and several NES clones, all released in 89) and in the end of 1990 the Mega Drive was released officially. Also, that was when we got the first editions of game magazines that would last for years. I heard of most of these games around that time, even if I would only get to actually play them much later.
It was a little similar here in the UK, we got everything late for being a PAL territory. We got the Mega Drive in 1990 and Super Nintendo in 92. The Master System still sold well in Brazil and over here, giving it a bunch of new games that didn't release anywhere else. What games are your favourites if you don't mind me asking?
Some quality bangers there. Takes me back to my childhood arcade.🕹️🕹️💰
Glad I could bring back some memories. Do you have any favourites I should look at?
@@GamesByYear Yeah! Wrestle War, street smart, gang wars, WWF wrestle mania, chase HQ, chase HQ sci X-Men, raztan. I'll stop here before I list everything and the kitchen sink.🎮🕹️
@darrancoyle8394 thanks for that. Some them I know, I'll check them all out and get recording. I've been doing smaller videos as well with only 5 games in them. I'll maybe add them to those
@@GamesByYear The past is the future. Screw AAA gaming.💰🕹️
I kinda feel the same. I've a pile of new games waiting for me but I'm playing and capturing all the oldies. I do plan to add games for every year eventually, new and old
top 40 would be all arcade games
Not a fan of the console games?
@@GamesByYear I am, just that arcade games are almost always better. A few exceptions of course.
MOTHERFUCKIN TETRIIIIIIS !
