it doesn't make much sense, comparing dji's log and ace pro's HDR mode. At the very least I should have applied dji's LUT to the 10bit log file. Also, the video camera you film with seems to be the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5LEB, in the woods when you talk to the 3 action cams next to each other, the sky is gray. I don't think the panasonic is inferior to the ace pro, then explain to me why the insta makes the sky blue, when it is actually gray, this creates an unnatural forcing. On top of that on the dji I don't think you even adjusted sharpness and noise reduction

My test, experience: this information is hardly mentioned on KZread. Set your OSMO Action4 to at least 1/160sec or better 1/200sec in Rock Steady mode (digital stabilizer). The stabilizer is overwhelmed with shorter exposure times and you get unusable, blurry images. So you can forget about the often recommended 25/30 images with a 50/60sec exposure time with ND filter "Motion Blur" (180 degree rule) for smooth images. You almost always need digital stabilization switched on with an action cam.

Would you leave the shutter speed on auto when using the ND Filters? I'm assuming the Action 4 would just automatically reduce the shutter speed to compensate for the ND filter, which would result in a shutter speed that looks more cinematic.. ?

That's exactly right, just be aware that stabilisation works better with a faster shutter speed.

That's a nice breakdown of the differences between the two cameras. Thanks. I was able to see an X4 at a store today, and I was a bit bit taken aback at how big it looked. I knew it was bigger than the X3, but seeing it in real life brought home just how MUCH bigger it was. It seemed quite chunky by comparison. Luckily, as far as I can tell, it is only around 20 grams heavier. So that's a relief. 180 grams for the X3 and 201 grams for the X4 are the numbers I saw. The one thing I want to know is if the X4 is dramatically better in low light on overcast days. That's my biggest issue with the X3. It works best in very bright, sunny conditions. But once the sun goes behind a cloud or you're on some darker streets with shade around, the video quality falls apart badly. If the X4 is better in that regard, it would be a worthy upgrade.

New subscriber. Informative video having watched oodles of other YT reviews. I agree the lighting was exceptionally poor for the GP and DJI, and a broader range of testing in more sunny conditions would have been useful. I am planning my trip to the Maldives, I want a camera to capture the rich colours, but also underwater sea life, and I believe the Insta 360 is better for this part, but still clueless on which is best for rich sunny climes. Watching reviews it seems I may have to purchase two different action cams to achieve what I want. A lot of reviews say we have been lied to with all of the hype of the Insta 360, and the so called unbiased reviews for those receiving the camera to review. One YT video, the reviewer did receive the Insta 360 for free, but criticised the difficulty within the settings and very little guidance. So her honesty and transparency was invaluable. So for a action cam newbie trying to make his first purchase, I am leaning towards the 360 pro, but wondering if DJI or GP will release something even better before my trip to Maldives in Feb next year. Great video though, and I appreciate your input, and I too hope your channel becomes a success.

In reality, they all perform really well in bright environments. What really really differentiates them is how they perform in more challenging conditions. In my professional work I see most people using gopro cameras but recently I have seen a videographer using the dji action 2 to replicate mobile phone and cctv footage for a TV show from Wales called "The Way" and I recently spoke to a videographer who filmed a show in the UK about emergency responders and he confirmed they were using around 20 insta360 one r cameras attached to the contributors. There is a shift away from GoPro happening, but GoPro 12 still has more pro features like timecode, hdmi out (with media mod), 10 bit colour, log etc. Dji has some of these. Insta360 has the best app though, and they also streamline the content production process, and have really fun presets to try. I have to say also, the insta360 performed much better when light was shining directly on the cameras. The dji and GoPro both suffer from lens flaring which is controlled much better by the Ace Pro. The bottom line is that you can't go wrong with any of the cameras, but they all have their positives and negatives

Hya! There seems to be something horribly wrong with your Hero 12. Out of the 3, it should have the clearest image, the best stabilization and natural colors while tested in good light, as pointed out in countless other reviews. Your GoPro looks like it had a foggy lens or something.

My tests can sometimes be challenging to really put the cameras through their paces. In ideal lighting all three will look great. Stabilisation wise, again they all perform well in bright conditions. But the Ace Pro even worked well in poor light conditions, no idea how they achieve this. The flaring caused by backlit situations and streetlights is also handled better by the Ace Pro and I suspect this is down to the leica collaboration. I personally love gopro action cameras and still use them extensively, but unfortunately for them they haven't been making significant strides to innovate, unlike insta360 and dji. In my professional work, people still use mostly gopro cameras as they just seem tougher and have more professional features like timecode, hdmi output etc.
