Arnold Engineering Development Complex, located at Arnold AFB, Tenn. Our mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground and flight test.
The complex operates aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units.
The Complex reports to the Air Force Test Center, headquartered in Edwards AFB, California.
The AEDC is an Air Force Materiel Command facility and an important national resource. It has contributed to the development of practically every one of the nation's top priority aerospace programs including the Atlas, Titan, Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBMs, the space shuttle, space station, and Projects Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.

In addition to an earlier post, my grandfather and his crew were black. I still have relatives there in Cowan and Winchester. I tried to post a picture but not successful.
My grandfather, Arch C. Smith and one of his sons, Ferrell Smith worked on the railroad tracks . He was foreman of one of two crews that worked on the tracks DH&G Co. They laid all the railroad track up to and on Lakeview Mountain and later the track and plant foundations for the cement company in Cowan. This info is found in "Franklin County Historical Review July, 1977 Vol. VIII No. 2 Page 82. Their names are also on page 84 as well as the Monument in front of the Railroad Museum
