Zero experience in Arduino here -- I have found a few kits on Amazon but don't know which one to buy for this project, any suggestions? Also, is the scale built this way works 100% accurately?

My little Jack used to do this and would have blood stripes all over his sides from whipping a snake. Brought back some great memories watching this. He's been gone about six years now, I miss him each day. 😢

GREAT Design. One suggestion - A shroud to drop over the nut to catch any flying piece. I'd make the shroud out of sheet metal and either hinge it to drop down before cracking or just loose slide. Shoot you can even just cut a small clear plastic container to place around the nut you are cracking. Think I can do this without welding (Don't have any access to a welder. Will take few more bolts to mount the support brackets to the long bottom tube. Then I can mount the bottom tube to a piece of wood for stability. PS Metal Costs today - 4 December 2023 in NW Arkansas -$35 and change for pieces Flat Strap 1" x 1/4" x 10ft Square Tubing 1 1/4" 11 gunge x 10 Ft

I would recommend using Mosfets or any other form of Solid State switch for the next upgrade you make. Relays can only switch so many times before they break, depending on the quality ranging from a few thoushand to a few ten thoushand switching cycles, which you may reach pretty fast in this application. At least you load is not very high current, so the contacts wont wear quite as fast as they could, but they are still going to wear nonetheless.

I had a lot of fun with this project. This video is actually several years old. The diode eventually failed. As for the relay it is called a beefcake relay, rated for 20 amps. It was definitely overkill. I ended up using the Arduino nano to make an egg turner for my incubator, and after that, I took it to work and used it to run two stepper motor drivers for 3 years straight. The arduino nano is pretty solid. Yes, I think a mosfet would be better, but I like the clicking sound 😁

Hope you are wearing eye protectione if that laser reflexts from from somewere and get in youre eye you could go blind or have some damage to the eyes Better safe than sorry

I used a 12V battery pack. Search 12V battery pack on aliexpress, and you will see what I mean. It is a blue pack with a 5mm connect and built-in power switch.
