Overall, I think you did OK. One has to expect sellers trying to talk their books. The X-Men 86 you got is a reprint just an FYI.

Hey Chris, how are you? It’s Lee from Elizabeth with a new name for my KZread handle. I want to say that the feeling I have is that this seller knew that that book was in such bad condition, as well as the others. And that is why he did not want them taken out of the bag. He also said make sure you know what you were getting. It makes me believe that he knew very well what would happen and was trying to unload the books on someone who otherwise would not have looked the way you did. You did exactly what any smart, buyer should do, you looked at the items before you bought them. Smart on your part, bad on his part.

After making the deal, I would have went ahead and bought the books for the seven fifty. You agreed to the deal without taking them out of the bags, so I think that put it on you. But I would have bought them anyway. I think there was 3 or 4 books in there. That you could have got your money back on. I'll tell you.I bought a fantastic four number 1, one time. It was in worse condition than any of those. it had tape on the cover. Somebody tried to color it. I mean, it was the worst looking copy of a comic book I've ever seen. It actually looked like it had been laying in the street, and was rained on, and then run over by multiple vehicles . I sent it into CGC. they said it was the lowest grade they had never given on that book. So I put it on ebay and auctioned it off, and I gave explicit details of the condition even though c g c had already graded it, and stated its actual condition. It ended up selling for $750. I was blown away I didn't think anybody would buy it. Quite a few people placed bids on it. I got good feedback on it and everybody was happy. The key was just putting it out there and being truthful. You'd be surprised at what somebody would buy Just to1 own something that they couldn't afford otherwise. I really enjoyed the book while I had it, but I was glad to sell it.And the person who got it was glad to own it.

Those comic books with the diamonds are Whitman reprints. They do hold some value, but not nearly as much as the original believe it or not. They were printed not that long after the originals today I think they would be more looked at as 2nd prints.

Very cool! I didn’t know about these figures! Phantom of the Opera was 1925. Lon Chaney, classic! I got to see it in a small theater when I was a kid. Great video! My algorithm must’ve kicked you off my list, finally found you again, cheers!

If you have conservation skills, that might be a good find. And it is a good thing if all of the fragments are contained in the bag because they can be rejoined. So the seller did right by including the pieces and even leaving the folded brittle pages alone for a skilled person to manipulate. But they are wrong for trying to hide the flaw and blame it on you when it is revealed. My 2 cents worth!

Always let the seller remove it from the bag...this way if something happens it's their fault/responsibility.

You can see how tight them books are in side the bags. Almost looks like shrink wrap they are in there so tight. Honestly im surprised you even made an offer. The only way to get them out would be to open the bag with a razor.

I have never been a hard core comic collector. But when my family would go vocation I'd by the odd comic book. One time I was at a comic book store I picked up a comic just to look at it. The owner told me , unless you're going to buy something get out of my store.

Don't be a drama Q. You have the exp use it. I wasn't there but by the looks of it all those books were in super poor condition. You didn't buy, he didn't sell, move on. Thumbs up like the story 😁👍

  • @DeusExAstra

In slowmo you can see that edge separating as you pull the comic out. So either 1) it was already broken off in the bag, or 2) it went in just barely hanging on but that bag is way too small and tight, and the pressure of pulling it out was the last straw and made it separate fully. Either way, it's not your fault. If it was #2, then whoever put that book in there really fucked it up because you need to handle brittle and damaged comics like that very carefully and put them in a bag that's specious enough... certainly not a modern comic bag which will absolutely be way too tight and WILL cause damage as you put the book in and take it out. I've made the mistake myself of putting books in bags that are too tight. To take them out I just ended up cutting the bag rather than putting the force necessary on the books to remove them.

he was clearly trying to sell low grade damaged books. As soon as you took the Iron Man 1 out of the bag and the piece falls out I no longer want to deal with the guy. I say good bye. Unfortunately he will just wait for the sucker.

that corner was 29:06 obviously detached before it came out of the bag, being held in place only by the creased pages. It's likely that the only reason he left the corner pages folded up was that he tried to straighten those corners after he bought it, and that's when he realized that it was detached. Also, with that big missing piece of the upper right hand corner, it didn't start off as very valuable

Yeah I think you should have had him take it out. It may have been barely hanging on and the folded edges applying extra pressure most likely did the job. Not your fault. Sounds like he had other things going on or maybe he would have done it with you. I asked a seller if they could open a Golden Age book I was wanting to buy for a bit of money. Glad I did because inside was a completely different book.
