@5:00 A city hall had put a note on the door saying "Online files must be submitted at the service desk on 2nd floor." or I saw a print paper having the link at the bottom of the page.

This video shed some light over the view I had about ICMS and NRM. Being rather unfamiliar with the way they could both fit or connected into a project and thinking it has to be one or another, I have a better understanding now.

So the frustration is that when you hire someone, they aren’t enslaved for every week and hour of their life to squeeze that 80k as far as it’ll go? Ireland is going to the dogs real fast lad.

If when hire one already knows all this it means all these "beneficts" are already priced in. So you are not paying more for the benefits but actually paying less for actual work.

dude... just look at what happened to pay vs productivity since the 80s.... outsourcing shit is a bad long term investment. we can clearly see this today..

thanks for the video as a QS myself going through the initial stage of BIM implementation I can say that demand is not there for many reasons I think mainly because most of software are very expensive, they tend to create silos-like environments where open exchange is discouraged there are many publications and tutorials on BIM but very few are at a level where professionals can start using it If BIM were to be shown from a very practical standpoint it would gain immediate traction, otherwise it sounds like a bunch of gibberish stuff to many BIM+QS is a match made in heaven, but needs to be properly supported for people (including clients) to fully appreciate its benefits

I think we wildly underestimate the demographic of those still Performing the work. Me I’m 36, majority of those I hire are in their 50s plus. They were taught by very old, yet tried and true men with processes that still are very functional today. Now I bill, estimate, measure and the like technologically. However, whether we are grading, framing, doing concrete or paver work, we still use grade sticks and string line. Heavy equipment is a tool not the whole process. My father, age 77, taught me what he knew and the cycle will continue with my son. Now, I know it’s different between large scale commercial or high rise construction but for the most part, we opt for the piece of paper as it’s what we can all Relate to.

You are dead right Charles, but your son while learning from you will also bring his own knowledge to the table and he will be way more technically advanced due to his surroundings. So even though you are teaching him traditional processes he might adapt that to a more digital way because it will be more natural for him.

A Quantity Surveyor, at professional level is an Accountant of a Construction project. So, it implies that a Quantity Surveyor should be able to give the maximum possible value for the money spend by their clients. Unfortunately, this is not achieved in the construction industry. The loss owing to frauds and mismanagement is estimated to be 10-30% of the project costs. Happening in all countries. It is an affront to the profession. Therefore, it is a requirement that all Quantity Surveyors and their unions should concentrate on Technical Auditing. Auditing is considered to be the “Check &Balance Mechanism “for Government expenditure. Carried out by Financial Accountants only and they maintain a firm grip and lot of financial vested interests. Govt. funded constructions were simple structures when auditing started a century ago and it was easy to audit. Govt. funded construction now, is huge, complex, done in several phases with complicated Contractual arrangements. Auditing such constructions is difficult even for highly experienced construction professionals. The loss owing to frauds and mismanagement in these audited (Financial) Govt. constructions is a world record. It was reported as US $ 4 Trillion per year by Transparency Internationals. Global Organistion of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) submitted a proposal in 2015 to have an additional Technical Audit with a functioning Technical Auditing mechanism to salvage this avoidable loss in public funds. This is a good opportunity for Quantity Surveyors to audit around US $ 12 Trillion Govt. funded constructions per year. There a is scope for other constructions as well as the loss is estimated to be 10 -30% of the project costs. There is a big opportunity (in excess of millions per year) for Quantity Surveyors to work as Technical Auditors. Listen to my You Tube clips for QS knowledge in A.L.M.Ameer, All about Quantity Surveying

How to destroy an economy in one easy step. How to keep you boot on the neck of developing countries at the same time. How to pass massive legislation, on sketchy data. How to move a bit closer towards authoritarian rule. We dont even accurately measure the ecological effect of electric vehicles...how do you expect to do this? The enforcement measure if just left off the end of this short...ill make it easy for ya, a jail cell, the end of a rifle if youre poorish - if youre a super rich dude, maybe some fines.

With the BIM, we should solve all Stockholder's problems not just design issues. So absolutely quality of information in the model is an important thing that the design team should not forget. If the design team in the design phase starts to work with the cost manager or quantity surveyor in my opinion we can achieve a better output project.
