Does the Zeus kit require as much modification work as this?
@brucewolfeki6bsl8403 ай бұрын
The problem I have with this is when there is a sudden load draw the device doesn't switch on to supply enough energy/power for the load. For example, in the case of two-way radios with up to 30 watts of output power. In my 2017 Chevy Bolt with a new AGM battery running the rig at 15 watts draws down the voltage to 11.6 VDC which trips the rig's power regulator to drop output power or to prevent all output. Sometimes it will actually shutdown with the dropping voltage. I'm considering a step-up transformer to regulate the voltage. Any thoughts on this?

There are plenty of good options between a $30 crimper and that $800 one. And a DMC crimper is between $400 and $500. I simply cannot see $800 for a barrel crimper. Also, someone with bad skills can still make bad connections no matter how much they spend on tools.
@Cyrix2k2 ай бұрын
$800 certainly sounds steep. I thought the TE crimper was cheaper than the DMC and in fact the TE version is manufactured by DMC, it's just application specific.

Well I ran into issues trying to install my EZ power unit. My LHD LR series 2a (1967-68) has a wiper motor right where the electrical motor for the power steering would be.... Also, the instructions are extremely incomplete. Did you have to cut your housing steering box tube?

Why not use a remote control relay (used in older cars to preserve 12v battery from draing by parasitic loads) to disconnect 12v ev battery after car shuts off and contactor disengages. This will also put the computer/ecu to sleep and increase lifespan of ev components.
@user-js2bc9oe4c7 ай бұрын
EV need to have some electronics running all the time, for example, the Li battery cooling/heating is an important function that does not work if the 12v battery is disconnected. Updates to the operating software over the air from the EV maker also require the 12v power.

I am so impressed with the work you do to these lovely cars, and would have loved to join you, but I guess the commute would make it a bit difficult.. Greetings from a norwegian architect with a bad case of auto-anglophilia and are religiously amazed by the brilliance of EVs. And I'm also trying to keep two series LR's alive, but get kind of tired by the oily messes of maintenance, and fumes both outside and inside these otherwise lovely tractorcars :)

Great video. lt made me think about ev conversions for vintage cars such as the model T Ford etc. Using a relatively small drive unit and battery would be pretty easy. Vintage cars are notoriously unreliable ( part of the challenge, l know ) but a simple ev conversion would make them so practical and usable.

Good marketing ... but very disapointing for someone like myself who is doing an EV conversion to realize that Felten provide so little technical information about their conversions. With the Mini conversion, we see headline figures such as 72kW of power, (presumably peak power), but nothing about the torque characteristics of the motor (either peak or continuous), or the battery chemistry. Why the secrecy? Sure the videos show it going up a hill with a single person in the car. What about more testing conditions with more load and longer hills in warm weather when the motor drops power output to continuous power? It is the same problem with their Range Rover and Land Rover conversions ... no real testing to show what people might expect from a 4X4 under real-life conditions. I appeal to Felten to become more open in providing real technical information and showing potential customers what they can expect in real-life conditions where the motor is operating in difficult conditions and not in its peak power mode.
