Robin Hood Archery

Robin Hood Archery

A massive welcome to a different kind of archery store!
Since founding Robin Hood Arrows in 2012 I quickly become known worldwide for my custom crested arrows and unparalleled customer service. Building on this success I am now expanding my services to include many exciting products for traditional archers.

Robin Hood Archery is born!
My philosophy is simple - to provide high quality, low volume goods from European suppliers and manufacturers. What really sets my store apart is that I only include articles that I feel I can personally recommend!
The vast majority of items available in the Robin Hood Archery shop have been used, tested and evaluated by myself. If it makes it into the shop you know its going to be good!

I will be showcasing innovative and unique products here by video and from time to time also the odd "How to" type stuff like tutorials and possibly even instructional videos

    The best place I have found to get a ton of plastic is from Mattress warehouses. All the new mattresses are wrapped in it and they literally just throw it all away. I was quick and just dumpster dived but I’m sure they would have given it away if I asked.

    if you use a classic bow with stabilisation, etc, 1,6 kg is not heavy, but stable enough for hunting or 3D competition ! UUkha (french product around 1000 €) gives a linear draw and witn the VX serie you feel like 4-5 pounds lighter than foam carbon limbs around 150 € the Sx 50 is more affordable (440 €), same smoothness but the Vx is 10fps faster (justify the price)...

    I would contend that fletching size does matter with an increase in bow poundage. Naturally, the arrow itself is going to weigh more the higher you go in poundage (ie tapered 1/2 shafts for 150# war bows), so the fletching needs to work harder to stabilize all of that weight. Using the same size fletching on a heavier arrow means you get slightly less stabilizing effect, so using slightly more fletching is necessary to compensate for that. The increase in ballistic coefficient you gain with a heavier/denser arrow offsets the drag induced from the additional fletching, or to put it another way, keeping the same fletching with a heavier poundage will net less stabilizing drag. All other things being equal, the slight difference wouldn't be terribly obvious between something like a 35# bow vs a 55# bow anyway...but it would be there, however marginal it is. One other note that gets into fluid dynamics is how the shape affects the efficiency of the fletching. Looking at it aerodynamically, the fletching can be viewed as an aircraft wing, and when it develops lift, it causes the shaft to spin. The most efficient shape for a wing in subsonic flight is a high aspect ratio (very thin and long, like a sailplane or a wind turbine blade), this gives you the most lift (in this case, spin) for the drag it produces. Obviously we can't glue little airplane wings on our arrows due to clearance considerations, but it does demonstrate why certain shapes tend to do better than others. A long, low profile fletching like the trailing rear edge you've shown would be considered low aspect. A short, high profile fletching like the exaggerated parabolic shape found on modern carbon fiber arrows will lean more toward a high aspect ratio. If you want to get the absolute most out of fletching shape, more sticky outy and less lengthy lengthy.

    Great. Super cheap and easy and simple. Most difficult is the weight. But one can also have some cup and fill it with rice and weigh it with kitchen scale. Great project after i made my own shaft cutting tool from an old drill and some boards. Thanks. I subbed 😊 👍

    Hi, I came over your video three or four days ago and was really impressed by the simplicity of the diy spine tester. So I tried for myself to build it, had some trial-and-errors for placing the caliper upwards. By that trials I recogniced a special thing, concerning may be all of us who buy (have bought) a cheap digital caliper, mine was LIDL "PARKSIDE": the Vernier of (at least mine) caliper does not slide smoothly/evenly on the scale.. .it is sometimes a little bit tricky to measure even hard materials (like screw or metal profiles). So, what's the point: to get it sliding down the scale, mine Vernier needs something around 230 gramm starting-weight!!! And of course, that weight you have to ADD TO THE OFFICIAL 2#AMO (880g ASTM), otherwise your measured deflection/bending can not be compared to the " official" spine-charts, as it is bending lesser! (If not added, these 230g needed to slide the Varnier are SUBSTRACTED from DRAGGING THE ARROW!) So, don't buy a cheap digital caliper, but a "serious" one - or, even better (cheaper then), build the spine tester with the dial gauge, see RHA's Video! Regards, Dierk

    @Six_Gorillion2 ай бұрын

    You can just let the arrow deflect and then push the caliper pin to it from the bottom afterwars.. You will actually be more accurate this way as you will be sure no friction from the caliper internals are interfering with the arrow deflecting.

    I like this target idea better than having to build a box but I'll have to see if I can find a tub like that here in the U.S...probably. I'll have to admit, I had to go look up what "Hessian" is. I thought a Hessian was someone from the German State of Hesse, silly me. Of note, it is boat launching season here in the area surrounding the Chesapeake Bay where we live and that means lots of used plastic shrink wrap. People winterize their boats here using shrink wrap coverings, terrible from a plastics in the landfill point of view but I think it will work great to stuff a target. Thank you for the video and idea!

    I'm new to archery, but I've been putting 4" shield feathers on my arrows. I just like how they look. I use 3 and not 4. I feel like 4 is overkill for what I'm doing. The furthest I shoot is 25 yards.

    I have 8 longbows from Bickerstaffe bows. I get zero handshock from any of my bows. My latest is a signature longbow made for me by Pip Bickerstaffe. It is Single growth ring Hickory backed Ipe with a purpleheart and Chackte vega core between those cores is an extremely thin lamination of Hickory heartwood. It is 82" from string groove to string groove. It is very fast and very smooth and as I said, not a trace of Handshock. It's 52# and I use 60# arrows but I think the bow would easily shoot 70# arrows as it eats up the 60's. It seriously outshoots my Yew selfbow which os also 52#. I find lemonwood bellied bows are smooth but not lightening fast like a belly of Osage or Ipe. Your bow looks very nice though. Dave.

    Been using mine for a few months now, works amazing! 🏹 I've put the target inside the house after im done shooting, so it should last forever. Sometimes theres little pieces of plastic on the arrowhead, but this depends on the filling used and how messes up it gets after hundreds of shots, might have to change it at some point, but that's easy.

    Thank you for sharing your build on the spine reader. I have 14 recurve bows, and i shoot all of them. I recently bought 14 spiral . to log information on each one. One thing that is important information is the spine of each arrow. With your device i will be able to have this information for a few pennies. Thank you very much. Ken. Keep them straight andvon target.

    With some lower spine shafts, the needle deflects the shaft before adding the weight. How do you compensate for this?

  • @RobinhoodarrowsRHA
    @RobinhoodarrowsRHA Жыл бұрын

    To get a perfect reading the weight of the needle should be included when adding up the 2lb weight. ie, the hung weight would be 2lb minus the weight of the needle

  • @MuramasaRob
    @MuramasaRob3 ай бұрын

    Would'nt it still affect an accurate reading, if you minus the weight of the needle from the 2lb weight before adding it to the arrow shaft, even after you zero the dial, the arrow would be bent slightly by so many .mm from the weight of the needle, then adding the adjusted weight would give the correct weight to pull down on the arrow shaft, but you lost so many .mm when you zero the dial, or am i missing something?@@RobinhoodarrowsRHA

    · HISTORICALLY SPEAKING .... where did 105° 75° 4 fletching begin ?? ?? ?? 50+ YEARS AGO, I once read an old archery book, which mentioned the 75° 105° 4 fletch pattern. (( HENCE, I know that this pattern existed for AT LEAST 60 years. )) ################## ALSO ...... Is there an advantage ?? 🏹🎯

  • @RobinhoodarrowsRHA
    @RobinhoodarrowsRHA Жыл бұрын

    No idea when and where it began to be honest but Id wager it was way longer than 60 years ago. When it comes to advantages the jury is definitely out. Ive shot with twin fletch, three fletch and 4 fletch setups. Twin is great but can REALLY punish poor form. When it comes to comparing 3 or 4 fletch setups its really just a matter of drag. For instance, a 4" 3 fletch setup will have the same drag as a 3" 4 fletch setup (assuming same shape etc) My personal favourite is either a very long but extremely low profile setup or 2.5" to 3" fletching on well tuned arrows. I tend to stick to the tradition 3 fletch option these days as its simple and efficient
