Grace Note Forge

Grace Note Forge

My name is Josiah Dyment. Here you'll find some of my project videos about whatever I'm working on at the moment. I love making things by hand and learning new skills in order to create something interesting. Many of my projects are centered around some form of art and design, and can involve anything from metal work (such as casting, blacksmithing, and jewelry work) to sculpting, wood working, and 3D printing.

For now, my videos are meant for entertainment and not based as tutorials for making anything (this is something that could change in the future.. who knows!). I want my videos to help spark imagination and creativity in others so they feel inspired to go out and create something as well.

I'm really just getting started with this channel but I already have many more ideas for projects that I would like to show. So be sure to keep an eye out for more content!

    Hey Josiah, wondering if you experienced any shrinkage during the PRINTING process. Not so much the casting, but the actual print not being “dimensionally accurate” and if you have, have you figured out a fix at all?

    The trick with placing the empty at the center to rotate the scales around the ring isn't working for me. Would using blender 4.1 be the cause of this?

    Thanks for the review. What is the maximum volume of the 3kg crucible? Just a weight rating is quite vague with the disparity in density between gold and aluminium.

    Do you have any idea on how i could model a signet ring, and then change the internal ring size, while keeping the ring thickness and top size the same, if that makes sense

  • @GraceNoteForge
    @GraceNoteForgeАй бұрын

    The best way I've found so far is to use a lattice modifier and increase the resolution to have more control points. Then you can scale the whole thing up or down and adjust the top points for a different thickness. It takes a bit of tweaking sometimes but has worked well for me. 👍

    @@GraceNoteForge also i have noticed using subdiv modifier, it makes the internal size of the ring smaller, as its smoothing it all out, is there anyway to avoid this? adding loop cuts and creases hasnt seemed to help

    Couldnt you just use your vacuum system, drill a hole in the lid, use the metal plate and the ruber to seal it and put the mold in or on top of there? Cause thats what i wanna do for my dyi system in a bit.

    Работаю восковщицей почти 20 лет, и, что хочу сказать, сколько должно стоить такое бронзовое кольцо,если так заморачиваться. Даже работая на заводах, где отливали по 100кг золота в месяц такого не видела))) Это бы только сидели и литники продумывали, а не работу делали. Такое простое кольцо и с одним внутренним литником отольется, всё ещё зависит от мастерства литейщика и чистоты процесса литья.

    Thank you for your feedback! I agree, the process isn't very cost efficient (I mentioned in the video that this is a little overkill) but the point of the project was to learn more about the casting process and experiment with some interesting techniques I was playing with. I'm no expert when it comes to casting jewelry but experimenting is one of my favorite ways to learn. 👍

    Cool - bas-relief is more difficult for me than just 3d - as it's hard to control all the heights and understand how to show a particular volume and shape. I make jewelry too - but on an ipad. Actually, not only on the iPad, I've worked on Rhino and Zbrush for many years. But I decided to make a channel about modeling jewelry on iPad.

    One question: when you change the height of the girgle, why doesn't the total height of the stone change? It should change, right?

  • @GraceNoteForge
    @GraceNoteForgeАй бұрын

    It's a little hard to see because I'm zoomed in but I only had the vertices for the girdle selected. So when I scaled the girdle in the Z axis, the top and bottom of the stone didn't move.

  • @GraceNoteForge
    @GraceNoteForgeАй бұрын

    Sorry for the late reply! I use an old Asus ROG laptop with 32GB of RAM (still works great!). I wouldn't say Blender is the best 3D sculpting software for jewelry but it is very versatile and can be used to create some amazing work. It can be easily customized to fit a jewelry design workflow as well, so I think it's a great choice for 3D jewelry designers.

    Un molde de hule comun del usado para vulcanizar llantas,tiene unas propiedades increibles,el molde en cuestión se ahoha por espaciode 24hs.en petroleo,el mold se incha y la figura grabada aumenta el 500/100,entonces colamos parafina y obtenemos una copia pero mucho mas grande a un costo bajo.proceso "jonapru",intentelo es libre.

    La manufactura del molde hecho con materiales usados para reparar llantas,tiene mejores propiedades quenis pueden servir.El hule convencional de vulcanizado para los rodamientos lo venden en placas enrrolladas,asi se recortan las necesarias,y al colocarlas en el molde s vulcanizar se van colocando asta llegar a poner el modelo a coiar:entonces se coloca el vevedero de inyeccion y la pieza a copiar,entonces con una borla de algodon se lubrica el hule con talco,cuidando no tocar el modelo,despues colocanos el complemento del hule,cuidando aplicarle el talco necesario,esto es con la finalidad que al vulcanizar NO se funda con la otra mitad y se vulvaniza..Seguramente se va a separar las 2 partes muy facilmente.Si se deses obtener una copia mas grande.....entonces vulcanize unos 10 minutos mas del usual,para prevenir se disuelva el molde;Se ahoga el molde en petroleo durante 24hs,el mismo se incha aumentando de tamaño asta 500/100,entonces se cuela parafina obteniendo una copia mas grande.proceso "jonapru",es libre intentelo.
