My name is Josiah Dyment. Here you'll find some of my project videos about whatever I'm working on at the moment. I love making things by hand and learning new skills in order to create something interesting. Many of my projects are centered around some form of art and design, and can involve anything from metal work (such as casting, blacksmithing, and jewelry work) to sculpting, wood working, and 3D printing.
For now, my videos are meant for entertainment and not based as tutorials for making anything (this is something that could change in the future.. who knows!). I want my videos to help spark imagination and creativity in others so they feel inspired to go out and create something as well.
I'm really just getting started with this channel but I already have many more ideas for projects that I would like to show. So be sure to keep an eye out for more content!

Hey Josiah, wondering if you experienced any shrinkage during the PRINTING process. Not so much the casting, but the actual print not being “dimensionally accurate” and if you have, have you figured out a fix at all?
I like your videos so much . ❤ honestly can you leave me short cut keys on this software that you often use please.
Thank you so much! I plan on making a video showing my shortcut key setup for sculpting 😁
If I understand correctly I can use any type of silicon? Like platinum or tin
Could be that wax used for silicone mold making?
Software name please
Dear Grace, thank you for sharing your technique above. Its exactly what I was looking to try to do. Can you please update us with that project? Did you have it casted? How thin can the wax be rolled out to and yet still be successfully casted? Thanks so much.
Does it matter how much flux/ borax powder you use
you're channel really is a blessing, thanks for all the tutorial
The trick with placing the empty at the center to rotate the scales around the ring isn't working for me. Would using blender 4.1 be the cause of this?
How much vacuum pump power
You should try fusion, i find it so much easier to work with if you are just making basic geometries. I started with blender too but definitely prefer fusion now
I was searching for a sculpting tutorial in Rhino, but this for me proves again to use blender instead :D
Hi! I was wondering how you remove the silicone mold - once it's set - from the frame without damaging the cone-shaped opening and wax sprue?
What is the Programm Name you do the 3D Design? 😶
Thanks for the review. What is the maximum volume of the 3kg crucible? Just a weight rating is quite vague with the disparity in density between gold and aluminium.
How long does it take to cool down?
Beautiful work! How did it look after cast?
Thank you so much! Unfortunately, the shield was the only piece that came out in the casting. I've been thinking about making these again in 3D though.
Great tutorial! What I was unable to do was the subdivision on the second ring. Nothing happened :( but I prefer the final option better so no big deal. Thanks for sharing!
Whats the best flux for melting brass?
Do you have any idea on how i could model a signet ring, and then change the internal ring size, while keeping the ring thickness and top size the same, if that makes sense
The best way I've found so far is to use a lattice modifier and increase the resolution to have more control points. Then you can scale the whole thing up or down and adjust the top points for a different thickness. It takes a bit of tweaking sometimes but has worked well for me. 👍
@@GraceNoteForge thanks so much for the response, iill give it a go
@@GraceNoteForge also i have noticed using subdiv modifier, it makes the internal size of the ring smaller, as its smoothing it all out, is there anyway to avoid this? adding loop cuts and creases hasnt seemed to help
Have same printer and same resin - still can not print anything , cause it’s just don’t stick to platform 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ did you ever had this problem ?
Couldnt you just use your vacuum system, drill a hole in the lid, use the metal plate and the ruber to seal it and put the mold in or on top of there? Cause thats what i wanna do for my dyi system in a bit.
Hi! It's me, a student from Russia, I wrote you a comment 9 months ago or so 👋 Yesterday I got my diploma! Yay!! :) Just wanted to say thank you for your videos again, they helped me a lot in my journey, and I was really glad you did this tutorial, it's just great ❤ Have a nice day:)
That's great 🎉 Congratulations! And thank you so much. So glad to hear you are doing well and that my videos have helped along the way 😁
Lilin apa yang anda gunakan...apakah bisa memakai lilin yang untuk cetakan gigi?
I use Ferris green jewelry wax. I haven't tried using dental wax but I've seen others make some amazing jewelry work with it. It seems softer and easy to sculpt with.
What is the liquid on the cotton bud?
The liquid is odorless mineral spirits. It works great for polishing.
Thank you for your feedback! I agree, the process isn't very cost efficient (I mentioned in the video that this is a little overkill) but the point of the project was to learn more about the casting process and experiment with some interesting techniques I was playing with. I'm no expert when it comes to casting jewelry but experimenting is one of my favorite ways to learn. 👍
i'm planning on getting started making my own jewellery, and tutorials like this are so invaluable for folks like me that are just getting familiar with 3d modelling, thanks for posting!
That's great to hear! Thank you for watching and best of luck on your jewelry making journey! 😁
Unhide key is not working :(
👍✌️⚒️
Cool - bas-relief is more difficult for me than just 3d - as it's hard to control all the heights and understand how to show a particular volume and shape. I make jewelry too - but on an ipad. Actually, not only on the iPad, I've worked on Rhino and Zbrush for many years. But I decided to make a channel about modeling jewelry on iPad.
Thank you so much! I've seen your work and it's fantastic! I recently started using Nomad for jewelry modeling too and so far I'm really liking it (I watched a few of your videos to help get me started, so thank you!) 🙏
@@GraceNoteForge Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that my videos have been helpful to you in your journey with Nomad Sculpt. It's great to connect with others who are passionate about jewelry modeling. Keep up the fantastic work, and happy sculpting!
One question: when you change the height of the girgle, why doesn't the total height of the stone change? It should change, right?
It's a little hard to see because I'm zoomed in but I only had the vertices for the girdle selected. So when I scaled the girdle in the Z axis, the top and bottom of the stone didn't move.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. You are a crack!
You're very welcome 👍
DONT BUY THEY ARE JUNK AND RETURNING IS A NIGHTMARE TWO WEEKS OF EMAILS AND THEY KEEP HASSLING ME OVER PICTURES VIDEOS DONT BUY
Well done! What is your PC specifications? And is Blender the best software for sculpting for 3D printing jewelry? I hope you answer my questions. Thanks
Sorry for the late reply! I use an old Asus ROG laptop with 32GB of RAM (still works great!). I wouldn't say Blender is the best 3D sculpting software for jewelry but it is very versatile and can be used to create some amazing work. It can be easily customized to fit a jewelry design workflow as well, so I think it's a great choice for 3D jewelry designers.
When you go from design to finish cast item, what would you say is the shrinkage percent?
I have the 1 kilo furnace and I love it. No issues at all. Super fun.
i need some guidance about casting the casteable rings do you use insta?
Thank you for this helpful tutorial! And i love the bent fork, also a good idea :)
Incredible! I appreciate the time you took to show us how to create in propper scale step by step. Super helpful! Thanks so much!
You're very welcome! I'm glad to hear that this video is helpful 😁
Where did you get the small plastic filter on the ball valve side?
That actually came with my vacuum chamber (I should have mentioned that in the video). If you search "vacuum chamber filter", you can find them online.
What model of 3D printer do you have?
I use a Phrozen Sonic mini 8k
@@GraceNoteForge thank you so much
There are quite some broken units like this cheap on ebay. Is yours still alive after how much use?
amazing work :) is there a reason why you used different shaped tips for attaching the wax pieces?
Nice results , this Wax look like green carwing wax ?) if you need some Floral type of 3dmodels or classic solitaires for 3dprint tests I can provide own designs for you 😉
this is so awesome, as someone who's thinking of getting into lost wax carving it's inspirational! please keep uploading your work :)
Thank you so much! 🙏😊
What version of this would you recommend to melt iron?
Hey, i’m new to casting metal and i’m wondering what the pros and cons are of using a solid wall flask instead of a perforated one? is it just more efficient in getting the air bubbles out in a vacuum, or am i missing something else?
Hi Looks good why from chitubox would the model show on the phrozen printer in a ctb file but never pull up the printer ready button?
