SBG Bury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA Classes

SBG Bury Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA Classes

Over 600 instructional videos from SBG Bury BJJ, a 7 day per week Jiu Jitsu and MMA, classes from 6am weekdays. We've offered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt instruction for 9 years now and Straight Blast Gym MMA instruction since 2006. We record our BJJ Classes so that members can watch back and home study and prospective members can see the degree of instruction and dedication to technique. Gi or No Gi doesn’t matter to us; we focus on the biomechanics involved and are a JJGF registered club. We study Matt Thornton, Henry Akins, John Frankl, John Danaher and Rickson Gracie, buying their instructionals and practising their approach. We also coach on Breathing methods and strength training using isometrics creating a holistic system for a strong mind and healthy body.

Additional notes to the videos are posted at sbgbury.online

    Thanks for this intense lesson on hip control, what it is and how to apply. It's easier with learning concepts than single moves. With the concept the moves come (more or less) automatically bc they are about what the concept requires.

    Hello, Thanks a lot for your videos its amazing and I really feel its connected to the Rickson's system. I have a question. Coud you post a video wich could answer this question: how to deal with a standing opponent who has two grips on your collars and who puch you ( in addition the opponent is bent as a wrestler and has his legs and hips far away) ? Thanks a lot from France

  • @Burybjj

    Yes we want to be on our toes so we are pointing in the direction of the throw and our weight is distributed accordingly.

    I can’t recall getting rolled from this position recently but I’ll play with this. It strikes me that I may have been doing this already. This is Super chill right? When I worked with Henry on this a detail that emerged is he pointed the far side elbow till the tricep was very nearly parallel to the ground. I was unable to put my hand in front of his face

  • @Burybjj
    @Burybjj Жыл бұрын

    Yes you showed me that gold! I don’t get rolled much from there either but personally, I’ve not been high enough. We’ve all started going higher and it’s grotesque. Nobody is getting rolled either. People weren’t going to this in class for fear of being rolled. We let them fail a few times so they can feel what they fear. Then we get them to gently start that side crunch and light bulbs go off

  • @joshsd7767
    @joshsd7767 Жыл бұрын

    Getting rolled was the reason I didn't go to this position much. The crunch makes it feel so much more stable 🎉

  • @Burybjj
    @Burybjj Жыл бұрын

    Yes agreed. Plus even if they do begin to lift you, if you side crunch and then sprawl, you sprawl is that much more effective that you end up belly flopping on their chest / head which is gruesome for them

    If the guy on top is controlling your hips this would be hard to pull off. However, if his weight is concentrated higher up on your chest it will for sure work.

  • @Burybjj
    @Burybjj Жыл бұрын

    This is exactly Rickson’s point. Also when someone is off your hips and higher up bridging doesn’t usually work unless their posture is poor.

  • @dannyy8619
    @dannyy8619 Жыл бұрын

    Gonna try this. How should the person on top react if they know bottom player will pendulum? Circle along their knees and follow the swing of bottom player's legs? I often turtle from underneath side control but I still get in trouble with my back exposed. I feel like with this escape, I'm going to have my back taken even more

  • @Burybjj
    @Burybjj Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment. The person on top will put their weight on your hips. THIS is the perfect time to bridge. The pendulum works as a rotational escape. You combine the bridge which is a full extension of the hips (which is like the jab in boxing) with the pendulum (more like a hook) which is a full rotation. They can’t take your back if you execute this as shown. Their arm is essentially being Kimura’d and your hips are behind their hips. If you lay completely flat with no shoulder pressure by failing to touch your hand to the mat, then maybe. However I’ve not had my back taken doing this escape. The worst is when they sit on your hips and you keep going for the pendulum. If you bridge and they are trying to kill your pendulum, they will often get face planted or place their hand to the mat. Then you pendulum again.
