My Thanks to you, I have this same situation on the drivers side back door and it happened 5 days ago and Have really been stressed about how to remedy the problem because I can't open the door to remove the panel to get at every thing that needs to be fixed. Who ever designed this had their head up their Butt. I'm praying that Karma pays them a really dastardly visit just to even thing up...😎

great video but you drastically understated how frustrating it is to remove that clip! I don't think I've ever been more enraged at an inanimate object than I was when I was struggling with it. anybody know what these are called so I can order a new one?

A few years ago (probably just before your video) this had happened to both front doors of my Suburban. I figured it was a common problem since it had happened twice to me on the one vehicle, and a fix would be easy to find. I was having to crawl through the back to get to the drivers seat. Eventually I had enough, and bought something else to drive. Anyway I finally had to move the Suburban yesterday, and it cranked without a fit after sitting about 3 years, and now have some project plans for it now. Thank you so much for the video!

I watched a half a dozen of these for my 97 tahoe. Some mentioned the clip. Some showed it. I laid under the column and realized "this is gonna be a pain in the ass." Yours is the only video I've seen that actually shows you IN DETAIL all the ins and outs on how to do this under the dash and maintain your sanity. I thank you for this! Good job!

I'm not clear on exactly whats going on. Are you locked out of truck completely? If so, do you have a sliding glass window in back maybe? Can you possibly fashion a slim-jim to get to the rods inside the door and release one of them? Let me know if you're still working on it. Sorry I'm 4 days responding...been out of state in Montana and not checking this account

Just finished mine in about 1.5 hours. There is plenty of room for an air ratchet. With the use of that it made it very quick compared to the one click ratchet. Thanks, the information was very useful.

I Have a 1997 GMC k1500 this just happened to my drivers side door today. It unlocks when you shut it off. I happened to be opening the door at the exact same time it went to unlock, and it jammed something up. Door won’t open, and it’s stuck locked. Key won’t unlock it, remote won’t unlock it. it’s Saturday, late and no mechanic shops opened until Monday. I’m to old and fat to be crawling over the center console to get out ver and over. You sir are changing lives! Thank you for this! Great info!

Glad it helped! I hear you on the age and weight thing...getting there myself haha I actually pulled my console out years ago and replaced with a midsize Igloo cooler. It works great to throw stuff in when its not being used in the summer for drinks on trips/woods etc. and it comes to the right height to just fall at the arm rest. Works great and if and when I need to work on anything in the front...just pull it out haha

THANKS FOR THE VIDEO ! MORE HELPFUL TIPS FOR REPLACING POWER BRAKE BOOSTER (PBB)… 95-99 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, probably trucks. 1. You DO NOT have to lower steering column. 2. Push brake pedal to floor = extra room to work on things. Cut away insulation in front of 4 PBB nuts, that blocked access, with scissors. 3. To remove small, black metal retainer, use a screwdriver to open up gap, on its’ vertical slit … while applying pressure to bottom with a longer screw driver. Black metal retainer is available at dealer for $2 bucks; maybe Autozone also. 4. To remove the white plastic stop-light switch … simply push up n it and slide off of brake pedal stud. Easy. 5. Remember to apply grease or vaseline to stud on brake pedal (lubricates the new PBB rod and yellow plastic brake light switch). 6. I used a 15mm short 3/8 drive socket and 15mm regular wrench to remove 4 PBB mounting nuts. (A long 15mm socket and a ‘ratchet’ 15mm wrench would have saved me about 1 hour.) 7. Had to remove master cylinder for clearance to remove PBB -- didn’t like ‘over-torquing’ metal brake lines. Job took me about 6 hours at my house… including bleeding the brakes. After bleeding brakes, checked pedal, engine off, and it went very easily to the floor. Sucked. So must have got air into the master cylinder. Next day pumped the pedal a few times… engine off… and got a LOT more tension. 8. For 95-99 GM’s -- many websites recommend to this tip to bleed brakes: a) push brake pedal to floor & hold it down (by person; or brick or stick) …. then b) tighten bleeder screw. Helps avoid common ‘soft-brake pedal’. Used Blue Lock tight on 2 master cylinder mounting nuts. PBB’s 4 mounting nuts were only on with ‘medium’…. or 20-30 ft lbs. Don’t over torque or you may break them off of PBB. It’s not a difficult job…. Just time consuming and limited workspace. If you are a very big guy… you can remove front seat for more room to lie down on. Good Luck.

The bolts inside behind the firewall insulation under the dash are a pain in the a$$ lol no room you need to have 15mm socket and ratchet, 15mm deep socket, and (or) a ratcheting 15mm wrench lol if you have those bolt types 1997 suburban has them lol
