So at the same time The Family Channel was showing Captain N, it was being shown in syndication and WGN as part of Rysher Entertainment's Captain N & the Video Game Masters? Interesting.

Captain N and the Video Game Masters was an off-net syndicated version of the DIC Entertainment series that also aired on NBC, Captain N: The Game Master.

Captain N was entered broadcast syndication, and aired on local stations from September 7, 1992 to September 10, 1993 by Rysher Entertainment, Captain N & the Video Game Masters, a 65-episode package which included time-compressed versions of reruns of Captain N: The Game Master, The Legend of Zelda, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World combing old Captain N episodes and new ones were mixed together. As Captain N & The Video Game Masters was produced for syndication, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was omitted, for it was also airing separately in syndication. The show's theme music was recycled from Captain N's second season intro, with the lyrics consisting of nothing but "The world of Captain N is here" sung 4 times.

This TV show was one of the earliest memories of my life, I binged watched a whole collection of video tapes with my cousin and brothers on the sofa early in the morning while having a bed quilt covering us all horizontally. I loved growing up with Charles Martinet from the nintendo 64 era onward but Captain Lou Albano is the real Super Mario in my book of pasta dinner recipes!

Here are the Edits made on this syndicated package: After the Captain N & the Video Game Masters intro played, the show went to a commercial break. After that, the proper opening theme to whichever show that would being aired on that day was shown. When Captain N episodes were aired in the VGM package, the chase songs in Season 1 ("Born on the Bayou" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder, "Shakedown" by Bob Seger, etc.) were edited out for the first time. Cover versions of pop songs in Super Mario Bros. 3 were also edited out here with the same tune. Episodes were time compressed to a slightly lesser extent than on the Family Channel, with all the episodes running about 20 minutes, 40 seconds. Although a Captain N episodes was a full half-hour, the other shows would air 2 episodes back-to-back. Season 3 episodes of Captain N and Super Mario World was played in a double episode format. Episodes were split into 2 acts instead of 3, removing one commercial break by ignoring it or editing it into one continuous scene/shot. When The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 aired, the order of the episodes/shorts was reversed, so the first episode aired as "Reptiles in the Rose Garden/Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas", rather than "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas/Reptiles in the Rose Garden", as in the original cartoon. The opening theme cut off the Captain N portion and removed the transition to the Captain N & The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 card at the end. The opening theme cut out the Captain N and the New Super Mario World title card at the end, replacing it with a new title card. Most episodes (except "The Ringer") were sped up by about 25% - a much greater extent than the other shows played on VGM. Many scenes of The Legend of Zelda episodes were cut in time when it aired in the VGM to fit it into a double episode time slot in each half-hour block. The opening theme was not changed at all from the original airings from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. A more complete, 2nd version of "When Mother Brain Rules" aired in this package - and probably on USA Network’s USA Cartoon Express airings in early/mid 1994. In this 2nd version of this episode, many of these sequences are changed around. At least once, an alternate version of the episode "Quest For the Potion of Power" was edited into a half-hour episode and was played. It used the same soundtrack as the 2-part that aired as filler in Season 3. This version was also released on VHS, along with the normal version. The episode title cards for "Underworld Connections" and "Doppleganger" aired with their title cards switched around at least once. The reason for this title cards were recreations, due to the first scene of each episode being cut. The season 1 intro was never used. Only the 2nd season was used on most other episodes - without the Mario portions edited out. However, the episodes "The Feud of Faxanadu" and some airings of "Quest For the Potion of Power" used the shorter version of the 3rd season intro and a different closing credits. Certain shots had small bits of them edited out, possibly to save time.

There were 65 episodes in this Syndication package. Anyone know how those were assembled? I imagine it was like this: 26 episodes of Captain N from the first two seasons 13 episodes of Mario 3 and 13 Zelda segments combined 13 Mario 3 and 13 Super Mario World segments combined 13 Captain N season 3 with edited versions of seasons 1 & 2 But where would "When Mother Brain Rules" fit in?

The edited 10 minute version Captain N episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 were not shown on Captain N and the Video Game Masters. After the 7 new episodes of Season 3 of Captain N they showed double the Super Mario World episodes. This also occurs on the DVD set too.

I've been trying to do a sort of a remake of this type of show. I added The Power Team and Megaman, and I'd like to add more, but we'll see. Not entirely sure how to fit them all. I also do a Nintendo Cartoons "Bunch" so to speak, where I just throw a bunch of Nintendo toons into the mix. This includes Sonic toons and Sonic X. I'd like to throw in more, but all the cartoons are difficult to find and I only found Sonic X is so-so quality. I wish I could find Mortal Kombat episodes in decent quality, in 29-30 fps, and without too logos or watermarks. Fun project nonetheless. Who knows what I'll come up with along the way. If anyone wants to help feel free to reach out. Anyhow, enjoy!

Funny story: When Capt. N and SMW episodes ran in the same day, you got the credits from that show. When SMW episodes appeared twice (no Capt. N on those days), Rysher would tack on the SMB3 closing credits! In addition, can you put up full episodes of Captain N & the Video Game Masters syndication package, that showed reruns of episodes of Captain N: The Game Masters, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and The Legend of Zelda (from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!) combining old Captain N episodes and new ones were mixed together?

Happy 20th Anniversary to one of the beloved 90's Saturday Morning series that premiered on Saturday, September 10, 1994 on ABC, ReBoot. I'm a little late on news but i figure it was appropriate to say something on Saturday Morning. It was one of the first 3D series that continuing trend in animated to this day. It may be dated but it still is one of the best 3D cartoons that still pass the test of time. The series has been released completely on DVD set if you want to catch this beloved classic.
