great video. hope you capped off that PVC. lmao
Not sure how I came across your video now. Its interesting though because Alan Vo with his concoction talked about providing the tank with enough good bacteria to out compete the bad bacteria that may cause necrosis. He mentioned he hasn't had an RTN/STN event since he started introducing the concoction.
I think that it is a sound strategy, and kinda common sense to fill in that gap with good bacteria. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Nope
Great video.. what would you recommend for a total of 90 gallon water volume. 73 gallons in display tank. Liquid or powder?
Powder 100%!! It's so much more cheaper than the liquid version. One jar of the powder cost me between $40-$50, and I can make a gallon and a half with that. A liter of the liquid would cost about the same price as the jar of powder for so much less AFR.
Appreciate the video! I've been looking into AFR to replace my Kalk dosing.
Here's a suggestion. I've been using both for the past year or so. I use the kalk to increase my PH primarily. This has the benefit of stimulating growth. The only downside of this is I burn through AFR quicker because of the increase in growth. And thanks.👍🏾
Bro, My first clownfish was a Maroon. The sales person told me that they were slightly aggressive but shouldn't be to bad. I got it because everytime I came into the store it was hosting in a nice Nem. So I got both the Clown and the Nem. I named it Hannabil, It cordoned off 2 feet in any direction around the Nem and nothing I mean nothing could come close to it. And everytime I put my hand in the tank it would tare me up. Even brought blood when it was bigger. Monster, especially compared to the Phantom Longfins I replaced it with. I now have Hannabil in a 29g biocube jail as well.
Yep. Once while aquascaping I got bit so many times my hands started stinging from the micro-cuts. I love the looks of those fish, but never again.👍🏾
recalcitrant. $10 word.
"He hate me", 🤣
Doesn’t work on brown jelly?
I actually would assume that it would work. I have heard of some other reefers have used it with their hammers and torches.
Nope
I have 3 viparspectra 165w on my 6 feet tank. With 70 blue and 70 white, I get only 100 par on the sand. Are those lights new gen you have?
I don't think so. I've had them for a few year now. I just did a par test and I am getting over 200 on the sand of my 120. I have my blues at 60 and my whites at 20. But I am running two of the 300 watt, and one of the 165 watt units. What size is your tank?
@@GwonkReefkeeping 125G, it's 6 months old, my fishes are doing great, the corals, not too good. Not sure if my settings are too high.
@@GodofJackpots I would consider backing them down a bit. Maybe 20-30 percent in both channels. Give it a few months to see if the corals bounce back. The fish will be fine.
@@GodofJackpots I also forgot to ask, what is your light schedule?
1hr blue, 9 hrs both, then 2 hrs blue at the end of day.
Copperbands are definitely so tricky. I ended up going the route of paying high dollar for one that had been QTd and conditioned to eat frozen foods. So far so good.
That's kinda my philosophy. So far so good. One thing I forgot to mention in my video was that it has become fond of occasionally taking a bite out of my acan colony. But it's a fair trade off for getting rid of the aiptasia in my opinion.
I tried once, but the fish didn’t eat. Thanks for the video!
Yep. That was my experience with the first two that I had. At least I know now that live black worms are the secret sauce for them.
It is a nice looking fish. Kind of iconic for saltwater fish.
Yep. Almost as much as Nemo and Dory.
I agree.
Ed, how much PAR is down at those beautiful goni's? Thanks
Good question. I have to measure it again and let you know. I've completely forgotten what I am running at. I'll try to check tomorrow and let you know.
I just checked and the PAR fluctuates between 285 - 305. Funny is I haven't used my Seneye PAR meter in a good while, and kept it under the tank in front of the sump. The USB connector had rusted so bad from the saltwater that I had to sand off the rust from it in order to get it to work again. Needless to say, I am not going to keep it under the tank anymore.
@@GwonkReefkeeping thanks, explains why I can't keep goni's, not enough photons.
I've had mine for 5 years and he does really well. I think several factors contribute to success. 1. Buying a fish you see eating from a reputable lfs. 2. Introducing the fish early in the stock list. 3. Be prepared to suffer through high nutrients as you spoil the fish with all manner of foods. 4. Stationary foods are key to eliciting a feeding response (mine now takes free floating PE mysis, but had to be introduced to this via putting the frozen food inside a nori feeder. 5. Watch Out For Zebrasoma Tangs! I think a lot of people fail introducing CBBs to tanks with existing zebrasomas and the body shape is just too similar. I have a purple tang that was introduced several years after the CBB and I'm still weighing being rid of it purely because it flares at the CBB on occasion. This is actually a hardy fish, I've had Ich in the tank and other maladies and the CBB shrugged off everything before any of the other larger fish such as the angels or tangs, but the prolonged fasting in transit to the fish shop and other things such as beak injury and it's shyness when introduced all contribute to the poor reputation and survival.
All good points. Mine was picked on a little by the two tangs, but it slowed down after a few days. My CBB absolutely loves live blackworms. He also happily chases down frozen mysis, and frozen bloodworms. One thing I noticed that he likes is my acans. But I can live with that.
Foot fungus medicine for your fish tank.😂
Beautiful and useful fish, congrats on your success. Different subject - Have you heard from Spicy Reef? I have not for months and I am concerned for a guy I have never even met.
Thanks. I haven't heard from him in months. I left him a comment a month or two ago just to check on him, asking if he was Ok. I haven't had any response. I've been concerned about him for months. Ironically, I was considering asking you the same question recently. I'm a little worried that something bad has happened in his life. I wish I at least knew his name. All I know is that he's in the Seattle area.
Great video, you explained how the All For Reef works in the aquarium better than Lou Ekus did on BRST
Wow!! That's high praise. I really appreciate the kind words.👍🏾
I was doing the cooking Baking soda thing for about a year. Decided to up my game and went to Kalkwasser. Upping my game again and moved to All For Reef. Thank you for the video. Installing a doser this weekend so I don't have to do it manually anymore.
I'm doing both in a doser myself. Only problem is the head that doses kalk has gone bad. Thanks for watching.👍🏾
Great explanation was very useful.
I'm so glad that you found it useful. I really appreciate the kind words.👍🏾
What brand is the tank?
It's an Aqueon.
I used this exact product and it did wonders for me too
Yeah, it's good stuff.
Great video, I may try that in one of my frag tanks that has a similar problem. Thanks for the info. The tank looks great!😊
Good to hear from you. The stuff works great as long as you do a water change to get it out of the water after 2 weeks.
Yup! Same here. I use a double dose for bubble algae too. But it is harsh on ricordia shrooms at that dosage. There is no waiting out byropsis, imo. Good call! Happy New Year! 😁
Thanks I wasn't aware that it worked on bubble algae. Good to know. I admit that I probably waited a week too long because I think that it stressed a few frags to the point that they went up in smoke. I did multiple large water changes after that.
great vid
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.👍🏾
Could you show the crabs and stuff
I will be sure to do that the next time I am there shooting video.
Who knew that batman was a reefkeeper. And the reef pig is great.
Love that PIG !😂
I was wondering where you were. The videos have been a little sparse. As always good info.
More to come!
Good info. I hope it stays away.
You and me both!
That thumbnail.
I agree. Awesome thumbnail.
Any negative effects on the corals? I would be a little nervous about them, especially since you have just recovered from the crash.
I lost some color in the acropora because I waited too long before performing a water change. It should be done after 2 weeks. I waited at least a week longer than that. Lazy I guess.
When do you do the water change?
It should be done no later than 14 days after treatment starts.
Good stuff. If Bryopsis is primarily using NH3 for nutrients does that imply that one does not have enough biological media for NH3 reduction? Thanks
That's a good question. Off the top of my head it would make me think that perhaps more nitrifying bacteria to outcompete it would be in order. You've given me more to research. Thanks.👍🏾
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure👍🏾
Come back stronger than ever!
I need to use chemiclean for rtn in Mt tank, I can only find the blue box one, will that be good enough still
It should be. The difference between the box color is the amount in it. The blue box is 2 grams. The red one is 6 grams. As long as it is enough to treat your volume of water, you should be good.
So nice to see your recovery! That favia/favites you have in the front of the tank is HUGE. And I love your copperband -- congrats on keeping it alive!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate the encouragement.👍🏾
The tank looks great. Is that bryopsis?
Looked good
Good come back from a crash! Everything looks really good and happy.
Thanks. That was truly a low point last year. I'm so glad the tank is doing much better. Even the aiptasia have started to disappear in the past week or two.
Hi Ed did you do a 20% water change week after the treatment
Eventually I did an approximately 30 percent water change. I'm trying to remember, but I may have done two of them. I hope that this helps. Are you dealing with an issue right now?
@@GwonkReefkeeping 🤞no but I’ve changed tanks and got cyano on sand bed ( even tho used live sand 🤷🏻♂️) so been looking at chemi clean or red slime powder to remove it .using micro bacteria 7 every day for last week , going slowly. 🥴
@@andrew5762 I'm a firm believer in ChemiClean.
@@GwonkReefkeeping great thanks Ed . Need more help please,as I said changed over tanks now fish have red blotches over body , not eating think it’s a bacteria strain 🤦♂️any ideas , how to help
@@andrew5762 I'm not certain what that could be, but honestly, I would probably start with a Rally Pro treatment of the fish. I haven't used it myself, but I think that it may help.
Don't trust them. If it can fit in its mouth, they will try to eat it.
Nice recovery. Just replace that heater annually.👍
👍😃
🙂
👏👏👏 Very nice recovery Ed! I'm very happy you persevered! Take care! 😁
Thanks Matt👍🏾
Best video about all for reef I have seen
Wow! I really appreciate that! I love the stuff.
The tank looks great. I'm lovin that pig!
I like him too.👍🏾
