The inept referee (Charlie Daggert) in the 1948 Williams-Jack bout should never have been able to ref again. This is the same guy who went through the entire 10-count over Walcott when Marciano knocked him completely unconscious in 1951!

I'm a Wilder fan and don't care about the criticism many so called experts give him. They are probably right! But Ali lacked fundamental skills, George Foreman was a slow mummy depending fully on brute force. But at the end of the day they got the job done! IMO Wilders is an ATG. No need to mention his extraordinary KO record. He was always in shape, never had an ounce of fat, and nearly all his fight were entertaining. I hope he retires now.

Wilder was never star material. Not smart enough to let his hands do the talking. Soon as he faced real competition he folded each time. Refused to improve by hiring a sparring partner to tell him how great he was. Not the sharpest tool in the shed would be a massive understatement. Dude made a gang of money with virtually no boxing ability so he should go home and hide his money before everybody helps him spend it!

Fighting at 215 pounds in today's heavyweight division has got to be murder on your body. Wilder's joints could only take so much wear and tear playing rough and tumble with these 280 pound piles of bricks. One of the things he purchases for his retirement should be an extremely comfortable chair.

I would not say he was "never that good" but I will say when stepping up in competition, his limited boxing skill showed greatly. He kinda reminds of a heavyweight Julian Jackson. You always tuned in to Jackson fight because if he lands its over and usually spectacularly! But if he got caught, well it could be the total opposite result.
