    The NFL is selling single games, SINGLE games for $75-$80,000,000.00 to streaming services. The money in a consolidated college football format is about to become insane.

    Let the BOTs do their job! I have no issues with Bubba and give him credit for what he has done at UNC. Why is it though when UNC starts looking to better its situation criticism comes from everywhere? Could it possibly be UNC needs data from an audit to present to the BOGs? I don’t mind a differing opinion, but not mentioning all factors and presenting this in a one sided fashion isn’t helpful.

    UNC Athletics is audited every year by multiple sources. So the answer to your question is no, its not possibly the reason. What is was is two new trustees who have no clue what they are talking about, popping off, and then told be others in the room who have a clue, to zip it.

    Agreed. It’s the only real option they have. It could cost $250m to get out and they don’t have that kind of money. The good thing about it for them is that they can have a more realistic chance of winning a conference championship after FSU and Clemson leave.

    The reason the budget at NC is so low is because Bubba wants to field a JV Football Program!!

  • @Doc_Boots
    @Doc_Boots11 күн бұрын

    We all know Bubba was not under the microscope due to legitimate concerns of mismanagement or malfeasance, but because of his opinions on realignment. The proposed audit would be used to hand a financial plan to the BOG stating that UNC won’t be able to maintain such athletic excellence into the future without change. The idea being that if the BOG then refuses moves towards realignment, then the BOG could be placed under public and political pressure for future loss of some non revenue sports.

    @@shelbyp4880 That’s not gonna happen. Viewership is the new currency of CFB. Eyeballs = Money. No eyeballs, no money. Only FSU (#7 in viewership) and Clemson (#22) would make money for a P2, all of the other ACC schools would lose money. Where would those schools go? Not a P2. And the Big 12 would only be a lateral move.

    People are to caught up in an ACC history that has long died. ACC history doesn't include UM, BC, CUSE, VT and now SMU, CAL, STANFORD. The league old people are trying to defend/keep intact doesn't exist any more. ACC is a dying conference moving into the shadows. And lets all be more honest, if the ACC was HQ'd in a different state, this wouldn't even be a discussion. The future never stops and the ACC had a front row seat and decided to not be proactive even when the writing was on the wall.

    Still think the final resolution for the ACC is a division of the league between the publics and privates. The NCAA settlement and NIL reforms are the inflection points for this to occur. If schools directly manage NIL payments, do public schools have to disclose those numbers? How does that play politically? Wait a year or two, you get more clarity.

    The good is if you want out then UNC also filing suit puts future pressure on ESPN to not renew. But this happens everyone is out for nothing UNC being aggressive will grease the wheel for a quick and cheap exit as opposed to a long and expensive process for all including UNC

    Didn't NC State just cancel their trip to App St? Also, UNC hasn't played ECU in many years (and the rumor is Mack refuses to play ECU), and it wouldn't be a surprise if State cancels the trip to Greenville in '28. Just my two cents, but these are the reasons why the topic is being brought up. The legislation won't go to the floor, but it will serve as a reminder to UNC and NC State to keep some schedule with the other 3 and not cancel those series

  • @DavidGlenn-nn2mp
    @DavidGlenn-nn2mp18 күн бұрын

    I don't believe this is true. As in our North Carolina example, where political pressure (but NOT legislation) helped ECU get on the schedules of UNC and NC State more often in football, there was definitely political pressure (going back to the 1950s) behind requiring Florida and Florida State to play each other. The proposed legislation in Florida was voted DOWN (not adopted), but political pressure definitely inspired the Gators and Seminoles to start playing each other (at this point, every year since 1958, with the exception of 2020/COVID.)

    I'm agreeing that this is an election year pr stunt, aside from my feelings about the scheduling. I think when schools like ECU, App, and Charlotte see NSU & UNC playing FCS teams in football and some scrubs at home in basketball the feeling is we could be scheduled instead. In principle, the rotation is more than fair to spread it out. The basketball angle will be the most interesting. Also, like you said, conference game scheduling will be a big factor because of everyone's OOC needs. What's also interesting to this is now ECU and Charlotte are conference mates and NCSU and UNC are conference mates. Then, when you get into basketball...it gets a lot more complicated when you consider schools like say UNCW... and the like--they may want in.
