    This is a band-aid. The real answer is a complete overhaul of our criminal justice system, making such crimes punishable and enforced, not like what is happening with the current Democratic regime.

    Then they just cut further down the pipe taking out expensive y-pipes and O2 sensors in the process. If you really want to do it right have a cage built out of bent rebar surrounding the cat or those custom full length plates out there.

    Does the weld cover the whole pipe and the total length of the pipe if not I don’t see how this works. -thief “damn there is a weld I guess I’ll just cut 2 inches to the left”

  • @HiThisIsMine
    @HiThisIsMine Жыл бұрын

    What’s a better question is, why would you think that you even have to ask this? This obviously has to cover the length of the accessible pipe.. otherwise there is absolutely no deterrent. I’ve seen some ugly welds, but none of them are *that* scary.

  • @ICU-th7qj

    Torch would cut that. All you guys coming up with these ideas will just make them resort to other ways to get them off

    Do you honestly believe a Tweaker is gonna learn how to use a torch, and take the trouble to light one up? Where using one will require face protection? And the spatter will not only burn himself, but cause a fire under the vehicle..where he’s laying? I just don’t think so.

  • @ICU-th7qj

    I cut the cats off my derby cars all the time with a torch. Not very hard. Also they make many sizes of torch tanks and you can get them the size of a small fire extinguisher. I know it's not ideal but can be done

  • @HiThisIsMine
    @HiThisIsMine Жыл бұрын

    The point the guy is making is that cat thieves are not going to be carrying around an oxy acetylene tank around so they can cut through a deterrent contraption. There’s hundreds of thousands of other cars on the road that they can just move onto and cut off in 30 seconds with their cordless sawzall. Eventually… one day.. _maybe_ you’ll see them resorting to a torch… maybe… but not anytime in the near future

    It could delay theft a little. The presentation shows only a small length was applied so this needs to be applied over much more of pipe.

    What is that type of weld called?

  • @patmcbride9853
    @patmcbride98532 жыл бұрын

    It's the type of rod, not the type of weld. It's called "hardface", and it is used to prevent wear on machinery like backhoe teeth and bulldozer blades.

  • @channelview8854
    @channelview88546 ай бұрын

    It's pricey. That is one problem. If you want to buy, one I have used a lot in past is Stoody 21. Most industrial supply that sells welding supplies should have it or get you something similar.

    That looks good! How much? Why not instead, bend and weld rebar along the exhaust pip and cat as rebar is harder to cut thru and dulls blades fast?

  • @garybulwinkle82
    @garybulwinkle822 жыл бұрын

    Wrong! Rebar is just mild steel and will cut easily. That "weld material" is called "hard facing" and is used by heavy equipment owners to coat their digging buckets and tip their digging teeth. They/we weld it on in big X patterns to slow the wear of the metal giving our equipment longer life spans. It is extremely hard and wears ten times as slow as mild steel. It is not very expensive, but we need a lot to do all the exposed surfaces of our equipment, and it's necessary in hard/abrasive soils!
