Once its overcrowded 10lbs per acre isnt nearly enough per year. You should keep them until you quit catching them for 2 years then go back to 10lbs per acre

I once about 10 years ago use to grumble how I NEVER catch bass out of my favorite three lakes over 6lbs Like one 6lb 11oz in the last 10 years but 1000s in the over 2lbs and under 5lbs. Then I travled to other lakes that by all rights should've been much better and it was MUCH harder to catch any bass over 2lbs Then I realized the lakes by me have IMO excellent numbers of bass in the 2lb to less than 5lb range and I only get skunked about 5% of my outings and my average is over 1 fish an hour which IMO for a shore fisherman fishing heavily pressured lakes is very good. I do envey fisherman with boats though.

I live on a 20 acre shallow lake. I have a good population of 1-3 pound bass. There is a good bluegill forage and a below average shiner population. I had fish to 8 pounds until a few years ago but only 1 over 4 pounds has been caught in the last 2 years. Im pretty sure it’s because of the durn Otter I’ve seen.’Wondering exactly what to do ( besides getting rid of the otter) to get it back to a good numbers and size lake…

The first thing I want to mention is that you call this "a pond". I agree as much as it is possible and still be sensible to agree with you. Not that it is an issue, but it seems that we have accredited agencies who are supposed to be the experts telling us that a pond is one thing, and a lake is another. My opinion only. Dont' get mad. They are all ponds. If it's round, square, or has some sort of geometric shape with points, peninsulas, or even a cove of some kind, it's still a pond. Lake Okeechobee, now that's a lake. Lake Cumberland, Kentucky Lake, Land between the Lakes, in Kentucky, those are lakes. Just because you dig some 10 acre hole in the ground that runs 8 feet deep doesn't mean you have a lake. Even if it has a spillway, not a lake. Herrington lake in Kentucky used to be a town......until they flooded it. Guntersville from the air looks like the Mississippi river, but it isn't, it's a dammed up area of a river they call Guntersville Lake. The second thing I learned, the pond I fish the most among the ponds I'm allowed to fish, two of them have the no bass removal clause. I could care less, I'm catch and release all the way, I don't eat fish. I do however trophy hunt, where fishing is concerned. My primary pond has, I know this because I caught him, or her, not sure, a 6 pound 8 ounce bass in it. It has several 3 and 4 pound fish. But it doesn't have the ambush structure. I think that is the most important thing I learned from this video. I have one question. Does a leak in the pond affect biting action? If the fish are too busy trying not to get caught in the shallow end, do they sacrifice feeding for safety?

Why don’t you put the fish in the creek downstream? Seems like a no brainer. Surely you can’t eat several hundred bass bluegill crappie and catfish.

I make half a million dollars per year, own my cars, have a modest mortgage for where i live…no other debt…and i have a home on 20 acres with a 1 acre pond….i always find it amazing theres enough people that have enough cash to be able to do these projects…the quotes i have gotten just to do work on my 1 acre pond is ridiculous….so i can only imagine the cost for 8 acre… My only way to wrap my head around it is these people have had these properties in their family, owe nothing on them and are just recreational, not large homes….so they can take the $150k it would cost for a project like this and do it… I guess im the poorest of the 2%…

I am digging a 5 acre pond in south Louisiana. I left a shelf about 20ft out from the bank, about 4-5 ft deep. and 12 to 15 in the center. How deep should my pond be, and how deep should the edges be? We're 2 years into this project, and a little over half way. But I can still make the changes while they're digging..
