You don't have a bad outboard, you have bad marine mechanics that have no idea what they are doing. And you? Well what can you say for a guy who says he's an experienced used boat motor buyer and he continues to hire and pay bad! very bad, outboard mechanics? I don't know? Water in fuel is not a complicate problem to fix.
Its not the engine that has the problem. Its the workshop. Bad workshops are an engines worse enemy... even abuse does not compare to a bad workshop. I bought a seemingly good 115 Evinrude and when i went down to details the workshop had done EVERYTHING wrong... i had to change plug and index (1 was not indexed, 1 was NOT tighthend) had to change all filters that they ignored on every single year service for 10 years, i had to re-grease and change gear oil because they had used the wrong stuff, they had overtorqued all cover bolts and broke all fittings, i had to epoxy and fix all of them. Now it runs and purs like a kitten. No problems at all. If you buy a Yamaha DONT TAKE IT TO THE SAME incompetent workshop you had your Etec. Good luck.
Im guessing they didnt program the computer when injectors were installed .. this is probably an easy fix ..
If you brought it to a good mechanic that wasn’t screwing you your experience with that engine would have been like the first 50 hours you had it
I've seen Yamaha 4-stroke outboards with 14,000 hours on them.
Your a perfect bend over mark. 😂
You got a bad mechanic not a bad motor your getting hosed.
Hold on here. You are upset at Evinrude due the incompetency of the dealers? I’m really confused.
You could’ve bought a new outboard idiot
I would guess the water in gas pitted the combustion chamber and the changed shape messes up timing. I would pull head and look. Another real big problem... becoming hard to find people that are actually experts and are mentally and physically healthy enough to get in there and do the work.
Tanks full of water
I don't to be mean. But lets speak the truth. You spent 12k abd not fixed. You are an idiot not exp boat owner! I repeat Stupid. Sorry but its true. Now some comments have it nailed, bad gas fouls up injectors on these high tech engines. But tgat a basic fix few $100 dollars. In fact I've cleaned my own on my twin 2011 Evinrude 250 HOs. People don't waste time on this idiot! Ty
YOU getting moisture in the tank has nothing to do with how good the motor is.
Thank God Evinrudes are no longer in business... Including the old OMC ....Please let Evinrude die in peace ...Bombardier should be sued for building such junk...Class Action Lawsuit????
Has anyone been successful suing these marine dealers ??? ..
Coil packs, fuel injectors or fuel pump? What ever happened to that motor?
Thank for posting this dude, im seeing alot of complaints on etecs, im looking at a boat now that has twin 2012 etecs w/ 600hrs, my offer will be hull value minus the repower labor fee to go to zuki's, yammy's or merc's., cause as far as im concerned the etecs have zero resale value and im gonna have to pay to pull them off. So thats coming off the hull value,,, if he doesnt take my offer so be it, ill just look for another boat,, i dont want etecs
lol $12k down the drain. clean the injectors
E tech isn’t that great I use a evinrude gt150 😂 too many damn computers absolutely stupid sounds like injectors man
dude it is a simple idle circuit issue or a ground nothing to do with fuel now. someone replaced wiring wrong on your first trip to repair shop and the rest missed it. that engine can fix itself if you know how to run the software it would tell you what is wrong. my shop would have charged you 1 hour diagnostic time and an hour to fix it. you were taken friend. never ever go back to that shop
I am sure your motor is long gone. Invest in a REAL mechanic. There may have been alcohol with the water in fuel. Maybe somebody tried to "dissolve" the water with a bad additive. Alcohol can really degrade metal and rubber in an advanced system. Subtle damage. That motor has a 2 type direct fuel injection system. It is most likely the two injectors related to the bad cylinders only. If they have good compression as you said, it is that or a similar isolated flaw to those cylinders ignition. Both are SO EASY TO CHECK! Never run an engine so rough. You will do more damage, even if it just throws the flywheel, you may damage the crank. This was a real easy problem to pinpoint. They took you for a ride, and they know it too. Sadly your assessment is correct. They folded the whole company because of Covid. I'm Canadian, I know Bombardier is built on corruption. All their subsidiaries are crooked and separated to protect the name. I am sure that was a 15 minute fix on your OMC. You should take advantage of your situation and platform and reach out to others, including employees and do a class action law suit against Bombardier. They pulled the same technical shenanigans with their "Ficht" technology previously. Thanks for your video, it can't be easy to say you've been frauded like that.
What about leakdown test? Compression test doesnt tell the full story. The numbers on cylinder 3 would scare me as they are way different than the other ones.
Bust out another Thousand = BOAT
If you "really know what you're looking for" and really knew what you're doing as you claim, you wouldn't have bought any boat with an etec!
I own two etecs, essentially the same, but mine are 225s. First, I am sorry for your problems. I had similar fuel issues on my low hour engines, esp the starboard engine. The guy I had bought the boat from had disabled the water/fuel alarm and I toasted my injectors on the engine. Took me 6 mo to get the injectors--$3k and then another $2k to put them in and get them set up. Replaced/upgraded the fuel pump too. You can pull the injectors yourself, plenty of videos on how to do this and test them yourself. Make sure you MARK each injector as they are not interchangeable. If the injectors are bad, well, the cure is more money for new injectors. As for your bad gas, I installed a clear goldenrod separator ahead of the first fuel separator system. The goldenrod is clear and has a quick release valve at the bottom. Saves you from having to unscrew the metal filter to check for contamination. Also remember, if you get the fuel alarm, both filters are filled with water and you need to get this cleaned out ASAP. The water in ur injectors is like acid. Eats those things up. Unscrew and dump your filter in the back of the boat, then pull off your engine cover and unscrew and dump this filter as well. remember to be careful with the filter under the cowling, it has the two wires that sense water. Do not bend or damage these. Once the water is cleared, immediately start your engine back up and let it run for 10-15 mins. That's a nice boat, I would get comfortable with pulling the engine apart and putting it back together. People are getting less and less enthusiastic about working my engines, so it may behoove you to get in there and take things apart. You will learn a lot in the process! --and drop parts in the water.
Your not to bright are you?
All the shit talkers are missing the point. He paid someone a premium to fix the issue and the problem got worse. A couple.technician s threw the parts cannon at it. Good riddance to evinrude, only good thing that came from them was the triple guard grease.
The fix is to get a yamaha
Sounds like you inadvertently broke it when you put the bad gas in it, its not the fault of the motor. Granted, you ran into a string of incompetent (and financially enriched shops not that you have been to them) service shops, but that's not the motor's fault. Fuel, air & spark are what you need to make an engine run, water in the gas wouldn't damage an ECU or ignition, sounds like injectors are at fault.
For 12k you could have picked up a whole new used motor that ran good. You got screwed.
Bro you basically ran water through your engine. Of course it fucked something up.
Lol I fuck up my motor but it’s the manufacture fault, no the shops, not mine for put bad gas in my motor it’s the manufacture.
My formula is simple..i buy what ever motor..The Government uses The Most..if 80% of all Coast Gaurd n Marine Patrol Boats.. have>> (Yamahas) im buying ( Yamaha )..i live in Miami fla..all my 51yrs and ive never seen a Police Boat.with Etec's on...That Tells u Alot...
Always use fuel stabilizer in each fillup!
You have to replace your injectors
This isn't a motor problem, it's a dealership rip-off problem. Did either service shop drain and flush the fuel tank after you got water in it? The one bill you held up show a lot of parts that are just routine annual service items that have nothing to do with the rough running condition - new water pump, thermostats, etc. They also charged for a zinc anode which also has nothing to do with your problem and no way an anode has to be replaced on a motor with only 500 hours on it, unless it sits in the water all the time which you said it doesn't. Another bill shows you got charged for a new starter - guess you must have been grinding away trying to get it started. Also saw where they apparently replaced 2 "bad" injectors. If you got water in the fuel, all 6 injectors needed to be removed and at least cleaned - did they only replace 2 "bad" ones and ignore the other 4? They also replaced the EMM - was the old one really bad or did they just "throw more parts at the problem" to try and fix it? AND AFTER BEING IN THE SHOP FOR 3 MONTHS AND GETTING HANDED A $6100 REPAIR BILL, YOU DIDN'T AT LEAST START IT UP AT THEIR SHOP BEFORE YOU DROVE IT HOME??!! If they replaced all that stuff on my motor (ETEC 150) there's no way it would have left their shop until the service manager, the service tech who worked on it and I all got in the boat and went for a test drive. Hope you finally got this resolved.
This bloke says he got moisture in his tank in the first 40 seconds, it ran bad, he’s probably never cleaned his fuel/water filter, it would have been full of shit, some moisture gets into the engine and that’s not good, what a potato
450 hours is about that time where you are supposed to let your motor go to some poor sucker, unfortunately you are the sucker.. dont buy motors when their life is already over lol
Ignition not good....misfire...
It looks to me that the timing is not correct ..
Try having your spark plugs reindexed again
12k should just bought another outboard lol.
Blame the Technical service & blame the Service Tech
So your blaming the engine for a Shit Technician! Typically non-Mechanic’s opinion
Bad choice of oil & condensation in the tank & salesman rapped You! Commission on customer pay! Tech here!
Merc, yamaha , suzuki, honda & tohatsu ..let's build 4 stroke...evinrude, Let's make 2 stroke complicated with electronic that even themself don't know how to fix it.
This is why I will never part with my 1986 mercury 50 hp, it always runs and cheap to maintain
MY etec has over 1500 trouble free hours still starts and preforms just as good as new and it gets used hard, so you must have a dud..
Thats why you need to learn to diagnose the problem yourself if that was my toy i wouldnt spend more then $1,000 on it
Water in the fuel u killed the injectors probably
