I have all kinds of animals on my property. I live 10 miles from here. I'm a hunter but they are completely safe. Squirrels, Rabbits, Foxes, huge racoons, groundhogs, the occasional beaver (I'm on the river), dozens of deer year round,. I have game cams out all over my property, I caught video of two huge bucks locking antlers in my back yard. Only once in the last five years has a bear entered my propert, that I am aware of. And I have cameras everywhere. It got hold of a Deer and was loud at 3 AM. I called Rhea County F&G and nothing they could do about it. I called just to let them know there is a bear on the trail that leads right down into Point Park and Dayton. I was told they get bear calls every night. Nothing they can do except maybe send a vehicle to do a drive by. We are getting a lot of out of towners moving here the last few years, they don't seem to realize we have bears and the occasional mountain lion. In just the last five years we have had bears walking down highway 27, running around in downtown Spring City, up near firetower hill eating from hunters game equipment. And yes we do also have Mountain Lions, my wifes cousin caught one on his game cam recently. They are protected. They were originally common in Tennessee, now thier range has expanded They began moving back into Tennessee about ten years ago. One of the first confirmed, a hunter killed one with a bow. TWRA already knew they expanded back into Tennessee but not this far up, and kept it quiet to prevent people hunting them. The one killed by a bowhunter gave TWRA an opportunity to DNA test. It turned out they were related to the mountain lions in Utah IIRC. I know for sure in the last 20+ years no one here or nearby has been attacked by a bear. In fact they run away. Those cops were chasing those bears in Spring City and all they wanted to do was get away. Still needed to get then out of town. Relatively recent bear attack in Gatlinburg is because tourists think bears are Disney level. They won't attack unless you screw with them.
