    Gabby's works for a few years, then will warp and mine kept slipping out of the side. Junior, the owner, never addressed it and after being in business over ten years, he's only got ten biased reviews ( not including mine which he never posted). There's way better grills out there for a Santa Maria attachment for a Weber.

    Epic review man…I just got myself a 2023 Master Touch Ocean Blue and it looks identical to yours! Did yours come with the raised warming rack? Mine did not come with the charcoal baskets, there’s some new variation of that that are racks that you insert which basically do the same thing. Glad to know it’s a solid grill, so far so good! I’ve had it for about 2 months now.

    The lid at an angle is to keep the grill from tipping over.

    Couldn’t you just add a small stack of washers to each side that would allow the lid to sit at more of a 90° angle

    How do these perform when outside temperatures are below 25 degrees farenheit???? Anyone know??? I know the Broil King Keg will keep high temperatures in the cold weather, but if these do as well, I'll gladly get one of these and save $800.00!!!

    I love my Akorn! Mine is exactly like yours. My only gripe is that the thermometer in the lid reads low-almost 50°. But I have an electronic grill/meat temp reader so I use that and ignore the lid thermometer. Besides that, it's an amazing cooker for $300!

    If you’re looking at primarily smoking, I would would recommend the WSM. If this is going to be your only cooker I would get the Akorn. It does grilling and smoking very well. I’m saying that the WSM is a better dedicated smoker.

    If it was even close to being a similar price in the UK, I'd be buying one. Sadly this larger version borders on the equivalent of $745, while the Jr is roughly priced similar to yours at $290. Just not sure I can justify £550+ though.

    New to a Weber. Got a Performer off Craig's List and saved a bunch. What did you set your vents at? Do the wires affect a cook at all going under the lid? Santa brought me a SNS...how long do the coals usually last? I'm going to try a PButt when it warms up here. Thanks

  • @johnstaub359
    @johnstaub359 Жыл бұрын

    I have never had an issue with wires and lids. I run offset stickburners, pellet smokers, kettles and barrel cookers. I know some people are more particular (fuzzy) about lid seals etc. I do not believe in making harder to cook. 😁 I wish this unit had hole provisions, but it is what it is. I am sure this guy feels the same way. Good luck with your craigslist find! Happy food days ahead for you I am sure.

  • @littlepigbarbeque9756
    @littlepigbarbeque9756 Жыл бұрын

    My best pointer for low and slow on any kettle is to set the bottom damper to about 1/4 inch open. Adjust the top vent from there to get to your desired temp.

    It sure is! Anything chicken related it’s awesome. Cooks a great steak as well because of the ability for a VERY high sear. Then you have a cooler side to move the meat to.

    Had mine for over 20 years and still use it almost every weekend. holds heat very well and has cooked more meat than some restaurants. One of the best cooking investments we've bought in 39 years of marriage. Hard to regulate below 200 degrees. Only warning is that if both upper and lower vents are open you better keep your eye on it when searing. Once you pass about 450 degrees, it can take off like a rocket to over 700 degrees. I actually cracked the cast iron grate. But she will flat cook, can smoke with the best out there and fitting a stone, gets hot enough to do pizza, no problem. Walmart currently has em, on seanal clearance for under $250 here in Georgia

    Dude I’ve accidentally left mine unattended for too long when trying to get the coals going. Both vents wide open…the grate was glowing red and the thermometer was PEGGED. It can get dangerously hot if not careful. Lesson learned. It smokes like a dream though!

    Thanks for such a thorough video. I have spent hours viewing BBQ videos and you covered some great BBQ tips on the fine aspects of cooking ribs, not just a review of the Akorn only. I own a gas grill, pellet smoker, and offset smoker. I am deciding between steel kamado vs ceramic, and you have given me some great info. One caution was using Akorn as low as 225 and the fire going out, and you said not to worry. I intent to use a kamado grill for slow smoking poultry, and simple hamburgers and steak over charcoal. Great tutorial.
