How long would you expect this wall to last ?
Thanks for watching my channel and your question with the style of wall. I have never been back yet to replace one. There is a 50 year warranty on the vinyl and with the pilings being wrapped with Piling wrap we should never have a problem with the Torito board worms eating them.
@@DaleWHickman Thanks .
After watching this video and a previous one I found me a new channel to watch. Very detailed and quality workmanship as well. The right manpower and equipment makes every job a success.
Welcome aboard! Thank you for the kind comments. I appreciate that! You can check out more of our work on my Facebook page.
Hi Dale, Curious if you've ever found anything interesting when you excavate
Thanks for your question. Yes, after hurricanes in the canals, you find a lot of neat stuff. One time a customer had me looking for his safe after he lost his house never did find it though.
At least I don’t think we did😀
Very Nice. It looks great!
Thank you! Cheers!
Like all the videos.
It was mentioned a pool could be in the backyard 03:35. What kind of pool is the customer's expectation?
Thanks for your comment and watching . I’m really sure but in the area where there could potentially be a deep end I installed the Manay earth anchors at a steeper angle so they could dig down a little deeper without disturbing the tieback system. I believe 6 to 7 are installed in that area. If this doesn’t work for the pool, they went to install. I can always modify the Anchor system when the pool is going in. This has been done in the past.

My place down here in Myrtle Grove is doing the Patsy Cline and falling to pieces
I always appreciate you coming in thanks for watching!
Wish you were working in south Florida. My seawall n dock are failing and just did it 11 years ago
Thanks for watching in your comment man that is very sad to hear. I could get some recommendations from my seawall vinyl distributor if you like a good contractor.
@@DaleWHickman I would definitely appreciate that. Received my first quote today from local guy @ $150k plus
My Vinyl vendor recommends furlong. Seawalls says they’re really good guys. His comments, Sarasota. From what I hear is he does quality work. I’ve only seen a couple of his jobs and they looked good
Great job boys!
Wish you were in Jax. Nice work.
Hey Dale, how thick are those vinyl panels? When you are driving them they look tough as hell!
Hey Dennis, thanks for watching and your question. The series we use is .35 thickness very sturdy.
@@DaleWHickman WOW! Thank you.
how often do you usually do this? and what was the price? Great videos they inspire me to want to get a set up and do this where im from
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the comment but we work all year long backed up for about two years right now with projects which is a good thing.
Damn man. I miss Marine construction. I used to build docks down in Miami with Kearns construction. There really is an art to it. Good on ya.
i would love to see more videos from a professional like yourself as im thinking of starting a business doing tasks just like this. how much did your barge and equipment cost?
Thank you for watching your comment. I appreciate that we don’t like sharing numbers on the Internet as to given additional information to local competition. 😃
So much work - labor, material, ready mix truck access, setup forms, strip forms, rebar. And then the concrete cap cracks because of settlement. Stick with a wood or reclaim plastic deck for a cap
Thanks for your comment and you’re exactly right. Very seldom. I do concrete caps just because of the time. But when I do it cost.
Very cool guys! How do you bid out something like that?
Awesome build. 100k?
Thanks for watching my channel and your question. I would say a tad bit more. Don’t exactly remember the cost of this project.
Hey dale, I was wondering if you think a 3.5 ton excavator could drive 16’ piles for bulkheads in shallow areas such as lakes and canals. I’ve had a couple people tell me it could work but be hard just want someone else’s thought.
Thank you for watching in your question. I’ve got a John Deere50 that I use on smaller jobs but it really depends on the soil condition whether it’s going to drive it handles the 6 inch pulse pretty good anything larger it really struggles.
Still watching and learning Big Daddy ! You guys are The Best at what you do ! I Was gonna grow up To be Just like you ! but, imma about 50 years Too Late ! Lol Anyway, I have hit a snag on my seawall problem, I hate to bother you , But..... Can you Please Elaborate On Where We might find The 12ft ' 5/8 Stainless Steel All Thread Type anchor Rods? Maybe with threads just the ends? Or is Thier Even Such a Thing?? Would IT Work Right if There is ? Wow, thank you so much for watching and kind words! Yes, it is a hard job but it is a labor of love. We employ a lot of people so I like to keep them all busy and fed. You could try Coastal products Plus or Meredith Lumber. It’s the same company or two companies in the same area they will sell online. They’re located in Gulf Breeze. But yes, I would use a 12 foot thread type 3/16 stainless steel rod. Keep on watching. I really appreciate it again! And we’ve had people come as far as Birmingham to reclaim yard, and as far as Louisiana, so don’t think it’s too far of a trip keep an eye on my wife’s Facebook page to see products that come in weekly . facebook.com/Hickmansreclaimeddockwoodforsale/
Those goats can be characters..Never ever turn your back on them while bending over..ouch...lol
Those pilings are lined up perfectly. I suppose you use batter boards to run the strings. How do you know where to put the batter boards ? Do you eye it before you pull the strings? Would 6 inch pilings be enough on a lake? I know strings are simple but important. Just a suggestion. Could you possibly show how you setup the strings on one of your next jobs? Keep up the good work.
Thanks for noticing in your comments I will try to get a little more detailed on some of those for you
What size is your barge? Watch all your vids! They’re great!
How much does something like this cost? Demo and construction?
Thanks for watching my channel. Don’t really like to discuss pricing on the Internet because of local competition.

What is the life expectancy of a wooden wall like that and why wood rather that vinyl or block retaining wall? just curious.
Wood walls out of the water do offer a warranty wants in the water. There is no warranty at all because of Tito bore worms. Some vinyl comes with a 50 year and other vinyls come with a lifetime warranty. The reason why I would use the wood or vinyl along the shoreline is because I can get it down into the ground below the wave action as to Block you’ve got to build to foundation which can be washed out then the wall falls over. The only way to prevent this after you get a good deep foundation in on your block wall is put a lot of rip wrap in front of it so it does not get washed out.
why drive them upside down?
Thanks for watching. Depends on what you’re calling upside down. The butt end or the largest end of the Piling should be installed in the water on docks. This makes it harder for the Piling to be pulled out with a bigger end in the ground during a storm search. If you put the smaller end in once you break that suction with the storm surge uplift, it’s easy for that pole to come out. Now building a house on Piling’s, you want to put the skinny end down because it is loadbearing of the house.
@@DaleWHickman that makes sense if you're in the north where water freezes and i do agree with the storm surge also i am Chris flint i owned flint marine construction out of Virginia beach i ran 12 crews for 20 years i sold in 2017 and moved to asia enjoyed watching thanks we were the largest marine contractor on east coast where are you what area?
@@DaleWHickman ask bill golden or ken fealty about chris flint and flint marine construction
@@DaleWHickman i was the largest marine contractor on east coat for 20 years we had 12 crews at one point i sold in 2017 and never looking back from asia
Well, thanks Chris. It is nice hearing from you. I grew up in Pungo Virginia Beach, Virginia. Move from there when I was nine years old lol. Sold your company that is interesting.🤔 We are located in Pensacola in Gulf Reese, Florida in Panhandle beautiful sugar Sand here to deal with I don’t ever have to worry about water freezing 😁
Dale I never see utility going in
Thanks for watching and you are correct. I am normally gone when my electricians and plumbers get there. I’ll see if I can’t cover some of that in one of the videos.
Great looking seawall, what was the purpose of the french drain. I'm on the Currituck Sound with with the same fiberglass seawall but have trouble with water slashing over and causing washout. The top is capped with 2x12 but water pressure has cracked some of the boards. I was curious if the french drain would help.
Thanks for your comment and Question not sure if you’re able to but rip wrap installed on the front of the wall would break up some of that wave action and keep it from splash over the wall. If you remove that solid 2 x 12 top cap then install a decking style top cap maybe 16 or 18 inches wide that will relieve some of the pressure of the water from breaking the 2x 12. You can see some of that some of my videos. This area that we installed this wall was probably a wet area so I wanted to install a French train behind it to help relieve some of the water pressure building up behind the wall and keep it from being soggy.

Thank you, Taylor for watching. I appreciate that.

I need to know what plate compactor attachment that is so I can get a barge with a machine to start taking care of out big projects
Thanks for watching my channel. Which area are you going to be working in? Really don’t like to get my competition all my answers lol
Well I have a mess. Seawall and no tiebacks, rotted wood. Buld behind the old seawall?
Thanks for watching my page that does sound like a mess and we have been in that situation several times where there’s actually like three walls behind the wall that we’re trying to replace. Really depends on the circumstance in a situation as far as where you want your new wall to be at a lot of times it is easier to go behind all of the old walls, but then you lose property, good luck with your project
Take care brother ❤❤
Thanks

I’m located on Portage Lake, Houghton, MI. Any suggestions on putting in 6” 8’ wood poles on the lake front. I have some that washed away with some bad weather a few years ago and some that have just rotted out.
Thanks for watching my channel in your comment not really sure what your soil conditions are there. I’m used to dealing with Sand down here which is a lot easier. If you’re doing it yourself, you can always do it with a water pump jet. The ground about 5 to 6 foot and you should be good
Where did you get the large pole rammer?
Thank you for watching my channel and your comment. That was my dad’s invention from the small post Driver just a larger version that we made. He calls it tad more when we need to Piling to go down just a tad more. 😄
@@DaleWHickman I love it. I reached out to a local welder to see if he can make me one.
smiles LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no matter work working with happy people is the best!
What is that material/product called??? The sheets of plastic this is.
Thanks for watching my channel. The product is Everlast Vinyl sheet pilings.
Quick question, when i built a deck using 6x6, I notched out a section so the cross support sits in a channel. You guys place flat up against it and bolt it in. I’m just curious. Which way is better. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching my channel and the question whenever we do heavy loads like bridges and cart boardwalks, we will notch it, but the strength of two bolts is well enough for average style docks and saves a little time
you guys are inspirational
Thanks for watching in your comment. I really appreciate that!
Harli looks like an alert little dog.
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate you watching him. She’s really a cool little Chihuahua. My wife has four and she is the boss.!!
Great work boss, I seriously thinking about taking the marine contractor test. Is it as intense as I hear?
Thanks for watching your comment. Yeah it’s pretty intense. A lot of stuff that we don’t even do two times believe it or not.😄
How much do you usually pay someone with 5 years experience on waterfront construction? just wondering the pay diff in texas
Hey, thanks for checking out my channel. Definitely don’t want to advertise my pay scale to my competitors. I’m sure you can understand that but I’ve had employees for 20 years if that tells you anything most of them are 15 years right now.
