    can you mount a 37x12.5x20 on a ranger DST 2420, or do need a special balancer for larger tires?

    50+ years ago I had a retread 14" tire on a bubble balance machine, it would have taken 2 pounds of weight on one side to get it into static balance! One could look at it and see it was way out of round. We turned the tire in for warranty.

    @@backcountrydriverOh ok, that is exactly what my 2021 jeep has. The JL dana 35 is the advantek axle I believe. Do you think it would be strong enough for some rugged 33's? I think 33's will fit without a lift. I wasn't planning on going too wide with the tire. 265/275 ish. Thanks! 🙂

  • @backcountrydriver
    @backcountrydriver3 ай бұрын

    33"s should be OK as long as you avoi wheel spin where the tires can suddenly grab traction and possibly break an axle. Be smooth on the throttle and it should work well.@@Roblet217

    If the numbers are too high you can dismount the tire and move it 180 degrees from where it was. BTW Static is fine but not having a cover thor that machine is kinda dangerous!

    I just balanced a set of 15”x10” used Jeep wheels with 35’s for a friend. On Dynamic it was asking for 26oz on the outside and 10oz on the inside directly opposite from the outside weight. It repeated on a second balancer. Static was 6oz on the centerline. No way I’m putting 2lb+ of weight on a wheel.

    What was the hardest of the 3 ? I’m guessing it’s Holcomb.. I been to the beginning of this one and went in 100 yards and turned around I had no one with me and wasn’t familiar with the trail so we did gold mountain half way and turned around again I was alone wasn’t familiar with the trail I have 4 inch lift 35s , jk

  • @backcountrydriver

    You are correct. The middle rock garden is always wet and that makes it challenging.

  • @toriwilliamson4787
    @toriwilliamson47879 ай бұрын

    I highly advise not doing these trails without experienced spotters. Your JK on a 4” lift with 35s is the same as my JL on a 2” lift on 35s. I don’t have lockers either. That made it even more challenging. Contact Don Alexander. You will not regret having them lead you through the mountains.

    So does this mean that if you run a front antirock, but not or nothing in the rear, it's semi pointless?

  • @backcountrydriver
    @backcountrydriver9 ай бұрын

    You can run a front Antirock with the stock rear bar but the front to rear balance is not ideal.

    In my experience anything 33” or larger should be balanced in static mode. I always hear people saying “you should really Road Force balance it” but the majority of those people are clueless on how tire balancing works. Road Force machines can’t properly match large (33”+) tires just because the machine doesn’t have that capability in that mode. It doesn’t matter if you have a 4th generation or even a newer 5th generation Road Force machine, either. The other thing people don’t realize when they complain about having a tire static balanced vs dynamically is that a large tire that has been static balanced will probably never go faster than 90 mph which most M/T’s are rated for 100mph. Drag racers and road racers alike use static balancing for high speed driving. IF you choose to balance your large tires dynamically then it would be best practice to balance your tires every 20,000 miles.

    So question...Does the tie rod rub against the brake rotor at all at full turn? Because I have a 2014 JK and installed this tie rod, cut away a piece of the brake dust shield, and the tie rod still rubs my rotors at full turn. I have a good little groove dug into both of my rotors because of it.

    Auto manufacturers suggest high tire pressures to improve the corporate fuel economy numbers. Over-inflated tires accelerate wear and reduce traction. The only accurate way to determine optimum tire pressures for the highway/street is to do a chalk te4st. Search for videos on the tire chalk test on KZread or Google.

    Quick question, would a static balance work good as a dinámic balance?

  • @backcountrydriver
    @backcountrydriver Жыл бұрын

    No! Dynamic balancing improves lateral balance in addition to vertical (bouncing) balance. This reduces the chance of death wobble (but does not eliminate the chance of death wobble).
