  I am not of Irish descent but I love Ireland very dearly and we have made it our pleasure to go there at least 3 times a year since 2007. When I hear this song I tear up and cannot keep it dry.

  This song reminds me of my grandmother on my dad's side of the family she passed away in 2021 we were close since my little brother and I were very little she loved us with all of her heart and it still hurts me to miss her it felt like I had something missing in my heart

  I seem to remember in the fall of 1995, this song was pretty popular on adult contemporary stations only. I don't think we ever heard it on a mainstream station. And of course they would play it overhead in a grocery store, where they play all the obscure stuff. But to me this is absolute number one material

  You don’t need to be Irish to feel the impact of leaving the country of your birth to the country of hope and opportunities. They often refer to America as milk and honey but it is a country where you are rewarded if you work hard. Everyone remember their humble beginnings, one bedroom apartment, few dollars in your pocket, got an accent often marginalized yet you persist because we all have dreams for our family. Indeed, 42 years later we found our own Isles of freedom. No regrets for leaving a corrupt place like The Philippines. The only regret I had, 80% of people there are poor and miserable, finding ways to work elsewhere in world so their family will live comfortably.
