Crystal City and Festus Missouri twin city days I was there. Saw Jim Kirby run this car a few times at St Louis International Raceway when it was still an 1/8 mile strip. I blew up the 396 in my 69 Chevell and Jim Kirby rebuilt it. I don't know if these guys knew it but they were only about an 1/8 th mile from Jim's old shop. Brought back a lot of fond memories!
Near lane is Bruce Neff in The Stroker. Former Dick Harrell funny car. I was the pit crew...
Thank you for posting. Love watching these old videos.
GREAT vintage racing! Thank you for posting.
Gas Ronda was on top in 65 !
What a man. He was my Dad's buddy in Carlsbad N.M. They worked for U.S. Borax. He always called me Davey.
Any formation on the site brothers Scootin cuda and Doc Spence and what happened to them can’t find anything.
My first drag race as a kid was at Green Valley, thanks for the memories!
Fabulous! Thank you, really enjoyed this. I'm involved in nostalgia drag racing here in the UK and its great to see these cars in the environment they were truly in. If I had a time machine, I'd definitely go and visit these events.
Cool video!
Holly cow! Who would have thought the guy with blower problems would go on to become one of the greatest tuners of all time. R.I.P double A Dale Armstrong.
I still to this day can't figure out who or what made these boys think chopping up these cars was the thing to do ?
GAS RHONDA ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES AND THE S O H C
I just found this now, how'd I miss this for four years? Very cool footage, the San Fernando stuff is the best i've ever seen. I even love the shots of the new Mustang and 68 Ford truck, the gliders and kitecycles on the dry lake.
Real Drag Racing and Real Men...
They keep showing close-ups of those flat 1960's bootys.
What’s with the annoying timer.
The video photographer if fond of focusing on women's butts... He wouldn't get away with much of that today.
Shit ass timer
The hit the traps at almost 200 mph but their wheel speed must be like 250 lol
A 427 ci with only 375 hp? Can’t be an LS7
RUN THERE 60S 70S LOVE THe 427 Ford And Gas Randa has his all togeather!!!
Walls of my room were completely covered with centerfold of these cars. Then Leno crashes semi under glass.
I could watch this all day
when I was a kid growing up in west Texas, I got to meet Mr. Harrell. He became my hero. I'll never forget him. That was a long long time ago. I'm 70 now.
Great stuff, only wish someone has some '67 UDRA funnies footage. Muncie Dragway had one as a warm-up for the Nats that was a classic.
That’s it, we need to make a law. Going forward every newborn male should be named Dick.
I was too young to attend these, but I wish it had stuck around later then it did.
Excellent footage! I miss those days!
"because these babies are put together by hand" - Yeah?... every car on the dealers lot was built by hand, so what's your point? LOL
I was at Kansas City International raceway when Dick raced the Sites Brothers Cuda funny car for King of Kansas City race. Dick smoked that Cuda 3 out of 3 times. What a great guy!! Rest In Peace Dick.
I grew up in Sun Valley. When the wind was just right, I could hear the fuelers from our house! The "Pond" was a fantastic dragstrip and this video brings back happy memories of a bygone era.
Cars are more beutiful, people are nicer. Pre-obesity era. All I need is a time machine !
This is wonderful!!! My dad found this, he was there! There is one frame of people sitting under the tower at 1:13:20 but it's hard to tell the people sitting there. It's pretty neat that my dad found this, thank you!
These cars would scare the crap out of anyone riding shotgun nowadays. Some of these cars are crazy fast, even at todays standards. some with nothing more than a lap belt. Respect.
No doubt the best period ever for organized drag racing in the history of drag racing. The cars and the people were fascinating then. I find that drag racing has mostly been a borefest since the 1980's. What brought me back to drag racing is the nostalgic drag racing that is so popular today. At least nostalgia drag racing is trying to recapture the best period in drag racing. Thanks for sharing this amazing footage. Cheers.
I agree with you... The top Fuel dragster and funny cars of today are not as exciting as they were in the past... There was not only amazingly beautiful cars the the drivers added a element of showmanship to the sport with thier nicknames and grudge match races... Today all the cars look the same and the drivers are always so politically correct except John Force he always adds some excitement to the sport.... But I will always always be a die hard drag racing fan.
I remember my dad drag race a 69' Nova in the early 70s
18:40👈😬 Ford beats Chevy in perfect fashion
Oh yeah. Had a '69. LOVED it. I regret selling it every day.
I have a 3rd Gen 85 Z28, 4th 94 Z28, 5th 14 SS/RS Spring Edition. I almost do anything for a 1st Gen. If anyone has one to give away, let me know.
Who would of guessed, there would be 4 cylinder cars that could blow past these cars and look like they are sitting still.
Tanks for much😉 👍👍👍👍real cool
Absolutely fantastic video. Thanks 👍🇬🇧
I am so glad I found this channel, it reminds me of how much fun and exciting drag racing once was. It is very sad to see what NHRA drag racing has become. That said the no-prep racing scene is at least for now reviving a lot of made drag racing such a universal spot
Awesome footage!!! Too bad about the 30 minutes of ads KZread forces on the viewer; but greed is everywhere
Lot of automatic. Some people couldn't drive back then either I assume.
The ' Sport of DRAG RACING was strictly Grassroots..where Everyday folks competed in All classifications. There were White, Black , Latino and even Polynesian...that's what made it fun. Then the Car companies, and Parts Manufacturers...made it BIGGER AND BADDER . THE CORPORATIONS MADE IT SO BIG that it phased out the Little Guy. Bring back Nostalgic Drag Racing.
This movie footage was at my home track Bee Line Dragway in Scottsdale, Az. I miss Dickie Harrell.
Dear Valerie, I remember your dad very well. We were just little kids but I remember your Dad taking me for rides when we all lived in Carlsbad NM. My Dad Don Dixon just loved your Dad! They both worked for US. Borax. My Dad was a mechanic there. I remember going for test rides in your Dad's cars way back when. Do you remember that 67 Chevy II he had glassed in with only the roadster roll bar? He asked me one time what I thought of it. Being a 5 yr old boy I told Your Dad, " It's so ugly" Your Dad just laughed. Take care Val! DDDave Dixon
💥 Great Footage Of The Beginning Years Of Drag Racing… I Was 12 💥
12:40 T-shirt, no shoulder belts, no roll cage......wow.
