I cant recall what year they banned shifting into reverse in the pit lane. These days you cannot back up in the pit lane, the team can push you back if you havent passed the pit exit line but otherwise no going backward. Watching Mansell do it there is now wonder it was outlawed, that sure looked like an accident ready to happen.

No he didn't. Mansell was being black-flagged so was virtually out of the race. Senna didn't have to race Mansell (who went for a clear gap btw) but chose to do so anyway and he took himself out.

Ne pas avoir obéi au drapeau noir et s'accrocher avec Ayrton Senna a valu la suspension du GP suivant sans remplacement pour Nigel Mansell . . Deux ans après , nouveau drapeau noir sur ce circuit pour le britannique qui cette fois a vu le drapeau noir et s'est arrêté au tour suivant .

Those were the days, there was no pit speed limit, hence they got into the pits at very high speed. Some excited the pit lane at well over 150 mph.

At the 8 second mark, Murray states 'Senna is not out', which confused me for years, having only watched the BBC Highlights aged 8 (can't remember if they showed it live in the UK). This comment made sense watching the live version years later, as a few laps previously Piquet and Caffi collided and I believe Murray thought the Dallara was a Mclaren in the low afternoon sun, before realising his mistake a few laps later🙂

Mansell was so stupid sometimes that he didn't stop at his pitlane, received a black flag and took Senna out of race forced him to make a miracle to win that championship... Something that never happened because Prost brought Senna out at Japan...
