Hi, I don't understand the rationale for the spine to run from top to bottom. When I read plots and figures, they run from bottom to top. Books in Spanish also seem to run from bottom to top. Is this one of those things that are so because of tradition? or is there a reason for that. Great videos, by the way...
Hi @julianvillegas7907! I think tradition mostly. Plus, if you're in a bookstore and one spine is oriented differently, you can't read it while you're scanning the shelves, so I think that's also a factor. Thank you for tuning in and the kind words!

I sometimes forget on my own books, but when I edit for others I always insist that they add a "Other works by the author" section, if they have a back catalogue.
That's a great tip. Back matter is the perfect opportunity for a CTA for your readers!

How do I create a photo book with text that I can purchase for myself without publishing it?

You can use a design software like Canva or InDesign to create your interior file and cover (or you can create the cover using our built in cover tool) and upload to Lulu. When you go through the publishing process, select "Print Your Book" as the goal and you will be all set. Let us know if you have any other questions and we will be happy to help!

I have done publishing on Amazon and Ingram spark. And then published book on Lulu with global distribution. Does it cause any problem??? Please please reply
Hello! Thank you for tuning in! If the publication is still published with Amazon or Ingram Spark, it can cause double listings or the listings to conflict in their systems. Thanks for this helpful video! I have already published a book and it's in general access and in Lulu's bookstore. How do I order a PROOF COPY now in order to have global distribution? During process it was checked for global distribution. For the book I have downloaded a free ISBN from Lulu . Can I order a proof copy now or it is too late because it is online?

Oh, another thing you mentioned... getting our books vertical doubled our sales. I would not have believed it. And Matt would like my latest book where the main character dies on the first page. Ha ha!

We did a book event in a town where I used to work in. I emailed and Facebook messaged people that I used to work with. Only two showed up, but they both bought books and we made enough to pay our table fee and a little profit just from those two people. So it can help.
Agreed! You never know how events will go but it's good experience and you might meet some new readers or connect with old friends!
I had global distribution rejected by lulu, it says : Missing ISBN in interior and/or cover file, How can I add this to book?

My book was rejected for global distribution because of the cover. It said the bleed what should I do?

Everytime i put a correct book size it still cuts out of my pages, is there an option for no bleed?

However, it will only apply the bleed in the form of white, empty space, to the interior file being uploaded. I’m currently doing signed copies through my website, and ordering through you guys. I got to say, the print quality of my collectors edition is REALLY GREAT! I was like WOW, now THIS is a book! Once I end my signed copies “campaign,” I’m going to be using the Lulu Direct feature! 😁

You said ISBNs were essential for retail distributions but not in every publishing scenario, well I guess the question remains (What is an ISBN😒And when you need one😒? So my question is which one of those publishing scenarios will I need one and which of those scenarios will I NOT need one?

An ISBN is an International Standard Book Number and identifies the following information about your book: title, author, type of book, physical properties, and location of publisher. You must have an ISBN for Global Distribution with Lulu, but you do not need an ISBN if you want to sell only through the Lulu Bookstore or your own website via Lulu Direct. Will LULU automatically add a barcode with my ISBN when printing like other PODs? I have entered my ISBN during the details step.
Hi @shadowgunner69! Thank you for tuning in! We will not add a barcode to your book, but you can enter your ISBN into our publishing platform and we will generate a barcode that you can then add to your cover.

When I wrote my book about using the sound-editor software Audacity, there was only one other book about the program, and it was $50. It was very detailed and more for sound engineers and my book was for regular computer users, so I priced it at $25, and it sold for that for years. I was first planning to charge $10, but I'm glad that I did some market research.
