I wonder how you couldn't get your battery to last at least 2+ hours. Basically any game I've played has lasted at least 2 hours. But I also limit fps and tdp I guess.

The OLED version fixes the battery life issue. I get more than twice the battery than my LCD SD. Some smaller games give me almost 10 hours. The device itself is also lighter. So you should upgrade!

since you already have a PC, you should definitely try out local Streaming with Moonlight. You can Stream your PC to the Deck and play any games that your PC can play. I have some videos of it on my channel, its awesome.

There is one setting you could ALWAYS consider; The TDP-slider. The Steam Deck operates most efficiently at 4-10W, whereas the last 5W (going to 15W) yield very little extra performance BUT has a substantial cost to battery life (talking about the LCD model right now). So if a game chews up battery life in 1.2-1.5 hours. Limit the TDP to 10W and you will get at least 2.5h. Limit it further if you aren't bothered with the performance implications... If you aren't running new AAA titles. but rather indies, and older AAA games, many games run just fine somewhere between 4-8W. There are more dynamic solutions to optimize battery life on a per-game basis, But I would argue that this is the easiest one-stop-solution that works for all games. You often spot these power-hog games by listening to the fan, is it running intensely and is highly audible, not matter the scene, then the game likely just uses "all the performance it can get" with complete disregard for battery life. I hope this helps! Anyway, this is the battery-life you can expect of your Steam Deck LCD once you learn to optimizing for battery life 7-9h: 2D Pixel art + 2D emulation 4-6h: PSX360-era games, Indies + 3D Emulation (Dreamcast, Gamecube etc) 2-3h: Modern AAA 3D games like Cyberpunk 2077 (30fps with FSR2)

Awesome review. It's the same for me, the Switch is collecting dust right now. The main reason is that Steam has finally become the only platform I am willing to invest my money into. video game consoles have died in intervals of 5-7 years. Putting you in a cycle of constantly buying new peripherals, re-buying favorite games. I am tired of it. Steam has existed for me since 2004 and every game I have ever purchased is still on my account (and yes, I am old. I'm in my 40's now)... What I love about the Steam Deck is that I can play on my PC and then continue that progress traveling, visit family or just lay in bed either playing locally on the device or even streaming games from a PC. Being able to commit to a singular platform that has held its own in 20 years is something I truly cherish. And emulation of course... The Steam Deck single-handedly is able to play EVERY game I have ever played since I started playing computer-/video games in 1986. That's AMAZING.

I even went as far as emulating some of the Switch games I just wouldn't bring myself to finish on the Switch because of the poor performance and ugly visuals. SD even makes it super easy to do so, no hacks or whatever. And my conscience is clear since I've paid for all the shit and both Nintendo eshop and their cartridges are known to expire in a few years.

I’m actually getting the Pokémon switch Oled in a few weeks unfortunately I’m gonna be out of a job due to my store closing to sum it up we haven’t made enough money in the last 5 years which is bs cause of Covid so what their not telling us is the real reason they don’t feel like paying the lease anymore due to the increase in price luckily I have money put aside for personal use savings and my money I have aside towards my switch it will end up remaining in the box i do have the Zelda Oled and the Pokémon Oled is supposedly gonna be the most valuable switch outside of the Japanese exclusives so when it’s discontinued I’ll either consider selling it or I’ll keep it unbox it for myself or share it with my future gf and kids if they are ever interested I want a boy but I know it’s not up to me haha 😂

I had to subscribe when I saw that your backlog consists of otome games on your switch. The struggle is REAL. I've got several otome games I need to get through. It's funny how years ago we'd only get 1 otome game localized a year if we were lucky. Now we get 4-5 a year and I can't keep up because I don't have enough time to get through them all. I'm currently finishing up Persona 5 R and I've really enjoyed it, so I recommend that. I also recommend Fire Emblem. I chose the Black Eagles, played as a girl & married Edelgard. I JUST got a Steam Deck OLED yesterday and currently playing Persona 3 Reload. But I'd also like to play FFVII. Decisions, decisions...

Unless you absolutely can't afford it, go for it! I waited to see if the Steam Deck wouldn't end up like the Steam machines. It didn't, so when the OLED got released, I bought my first Deck (Oled version). Just don't spend money you can't miss.
