That Dragon Mage edition is so stunning, the hidden fore edge painting is so cool, I love that you didn't know it had that. Oof, Ship of Destiny started SO good but then some decisions were made with character motivations that really turned me off for personal reason so it would probably end up in most disappointing reads for me, but I hope you love it. Also, I feel like you have a lot of experience with Dungeons and Dragons and the clear inspirations from D and D in Malazan will be much less confusing for you or at least that is what happened for me.
@MerrilyKristin12 күн бұрын
OMG that was the best surprise! Dragon Mage is even more beautiful than I had thought! Ah I'm sorry to hear that Ship of Destiny was disappointing for you- I'm just over 55% in and I'm really loving being back with these characters and out to sea. OKAY why did no one ever tell me that Malazan took inspiration from D&D?!?! I'm officially the most confident I've ever felt now about wanting to read it and thinking I'll enjoy it!!

@@MerrilyKristin It’s my husbands fav book we own because of that feature 🤣 Yeah I loved the first half but then she leaned into some homophobic stereotypes that I just…hated 🤣 but I know it’s definitely a personal low tolerance thing. Right? No one told me either that Malazan started as Erikson and Esselmont’s D and D campaign setting 🤣 and there are some CLEAR inspirations for example the Tiste andii in Malazan are daughters of dark and float around in a flying castle which clearly is inspired by the Netherese who worship Shar goddess of the night and fly around in flying castles 💀🤣

yay! you finally got that UK edition of name of the wind!!! bad enough that the number of copies is often quite low, but to then additionally limit sale to one country? were they trying to give scalpers some work? 🤭 sorry to hear about the DNFs. on that note, i just recently read the lost story by meg shaffer and recommend skipping it. synopsis sounded intriguing, story started out fine and then it fell flat. i hope you’ll have no more DNFs for the rest of the year! 🤞 silverblood promise - same. i saw that endpaper and simply had to buy the book! i hope to one day pick up the first game of thrones book and actually finish it. started twice so far 🫣 i don't know why i never manage to continue and finish. i like it, loved the show, the audiobook also sounds excellent, and yet.. 🤷🏼♀️ same with outlander. don't even know how many times i started book one 🫣 i'm still intimidated by what i hear of malazan. not sure that i enjoy confusing. but, i guess, the only way to find out, is to try it. have a lovely day, kristin, and happy reading! 💜

Great video! I’ve thought about this topic due to SE fatigue. That said I recently obtained an Arcane Society sub which took 6 months! And they offer unlimited skips! Knowing the line-up beforehand also helps to plan skips. Bookish Box has been sharing their upcoming SE books about a 3 months ahead of time and I have to say I’m not excited for the upcoming books. I keep the sub just to get access to their SE/limited edition sales. Fairyloot in contrast is more consistent with good to high quality reads. Still, I find myself exhausting my 4 skips by July/August. I have about 8 SE books from 2023 that I haven’t been able to unload and I’ve already sold about 12 books in the past year due to being underwhelmed with the book or not liking the SE customizations.
