    swivel bales were introduced in oct 1943. judging by the shape my guess as to the badge would be SHEAF.

    Those are REALLY nice!! Last December I picked up a beautiful Quist Sz 68 M35 DD Luftie locally from the vets son. The chinstrap hasn’t been trimmed, I can make out Offermann & (I believe) Sohn. I think it’s Frederic Offermann & Sohn, never could find anything on that maker other than some Luger holsters.

    a friend of mine last year gave me a WW2 Collins & Co Legitimus Machete it came with the original olive green canvas sheath but only problem is that the machete was issued and stamped in 1945 but the sheath was issued in 1942. anyways are those canvas sheaths hard to find?? cause I want to find one issued in '45 to match the machete. maybe the owner lost his first one but still had his sheath still till he got another in '45. who knows lol.

    I bought one back in 1979 for $25. Size ET 70 shell, size 60 liner in extremely excellent condition with mud on the outside of the shell. The shell was painted green inside and out. Took it to the Pomona gun show, to a table that had a boatload of helmets. And let the vendor give it a look? He asked if he could, with a wet Q tip carefully remove a little spot where the left side decal would be? And discovered a Army decal, and asked if he could do the same to the other side? It turned out to be a double decal early Army helmet, he said possibly from around, circa 35 to 37… Then gave me his card. In 81 I picked up a sturmptarn/ tan and water pattern size lll, bonesack, jumpsmock, type 3, with the paper tag from the factory stapled onto the lower left inside hem. For $400 in mint condition. By then I had been re-enacting for about a year in a reproduction Zeltbaun smock. So like a dummy I participated in a number of events but began to worry that I was going to damage my original kit? So I ended up selling the lot, when I got my next deployment. Though I would have liked to still have it all, as everything but my gasmask bag was original. I still have my pictures and memories. Still, I wonder what it all would fetch on the market today? I tried to make a jump in once, with my unit in my full Fallschirmjager kit, but my Team daddy said no… in the strongest of terms. "....... and you can't take it with you. " So true. It'd be nice if some greedy wealthy types realized that. That attitude could bring them more "Wealth" than they ever Knew.

    I'm from New England and I've *NEVER heard ANYONE say "DECK - ULL". I have only heard "De - CAL". * CHECK THAT. The ONLY time I've ever heard someone say "DECK - ULL" was on a Don Cherry highlight tape where HE reprimanded? Ron MacLean for pronouncing it DECK - ULL when they showed a "Coach's Corner" clip.

    What was the difference between the Polezei and the Gestapo?

  • @agilaeric1987
    @agilaeric198723 күн бұрын

    Different offices/departments within the overall SS administration, but overlapping duties. Also, you were more likely to encounter the former in daily life in the Third Reich compared to the latter, which was understaffed but much more feared. Gestapo men were mostly in plain clothes but carried with them an identification disc/badge that is very rare and sought after nowadays.

    Thanks for this. I really enjoyed your writeup as well. Admiral Cochrane was like a character from fiction. I think he actually was the inspiration behind C.S. Forester's "Horatio Hornblower" character. The characteristic aggressiveness of the RN, and the related intimidation of its enemies, was certainly a factor it its remarkable success. Some people trace this back to the 18th century execution (for insufficient aggressiveness) of Admiral John Byng, which was the context for the dryly satirical "pour encourager les autres" line in Voltaire's "Candide."

    Amazes me how many people want to try on German helmets for fit. Do they do the salute in their mirror? Found a camo one years ago at an estate auction and sold it for a tidy profit.
