    Has anyone built a system like this that they put in their truck aftermarket for like an overlanding/boondock camping build? The super duties don’t have this kind of output yet so I’m wondering if I can use a dc/dc charger, a few lifepo4s, and an inverter to make it happen.

    Amazingly thorough and helpful review. Thank you. I could be wrong but a couple of your statements in the video makes me think this is your first truck (eg difficulty parking). If so, that may explain why you chose a plastic bed-liner over a spray-in. Those who have owned multiple trucks have learned that the plastic liners will eventually (3-5 yrs) release and even in place they allow moisture to accumulate behind them, which leads to rust you can’t see. Good spray-in liners don’t have this problem. The bed-liner of my 2002 F150, which I sold last year, was still in functional shape, with only a few minor dings. That’s 21 years. My 2011 looks even better (of course). But if you plan on trading or replacing in 3-5 years, the plastic liner won’t be an issue for you.

In a pinch, another way to achieve the bonding requirements of the F150 without an expensive 3-pole disconnect is to have a lockout device on the main breakers and a (preferably locked) switch for the bonding at the house's main panel. This is the same as disconnecting the bonding jumper in a subpanel, but you're just doing it without a screwdriver. Here's a video where the homeowner achieves it via the screwdriver method: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIR3y5Zpkra4h8Y.html

    @@kdcarver Dude there have been so many incendiary arguments on associated forums about this topic I thought for a moment it was an oil thread. The pragmatists just say "screw it" and unhook the ground connection on the umbillical cable, so it fools the truck into thinking that there are no ground faults. The purists scream "muh ground rod!" and swear that everyone in the house will die with a floating ground at the truck (which is grounded at the house anyway). I do not know why Ford went with the bonded neutral but I suspect that this is the only way that they could implement GFCI, which I think makes sense for them to offer. Definitely stepping out of my lane at this point since I don't install electrons for a living.

    My 2023 F150 Powerboost jerks whenever I accelerate from a low speed. First it will start to roll on electric power from a stop but when the gas engine starts, it feels like the electric motor quits and a jerk is felt when the gas engine kicks in. To me this feels very annoying cause I've never had a vehicle act in this way before. IDK if the Ford engineers have fixed this annoyance for the 2024 model year or not but I wish there were a solution for this annoyance so that my 2023 could benefit. What about you there Mr. "FixOrRepairDIY", have you also noticed this event happen in your Powerboost F150? Please reply and thanks.

    When my truck was new, the transition from EV to ICE was pretty clunky. Not only was the gas motor coming in, but it shifted from 1st gear to 3rd. I don't know if I would call it a "jerk" but it was clumsy. Now the transition is like butter. I think it has a lot to do with the transmission "learning" your style, as well as some OTA software updates seemed to tame the beast. You might want to watch the same metrics that I show in the back half of this video so you can see exactly what's going on. Or take it to the dealer and see if they can apply some updates. cheers

    Ford probably can help you, my experience with rough shifting was a bit extreme. My truck was not downshifting if the truck got up to 7th gear in electric mode. Sometimes I would find myself sitting stopped with the truck still in 7th gear and I could feel the electric motor putting lots of torque on the drivetrain. When I took my foot off the brake to start accelerating from a stop the truck downshifted abruptly into 1st and that was clearly not suppose to happen. Ford fixed it, they kept the truck for a couple days while they arranged for a factory technician to connect remotely to the truck and 'reset' the Transmission ECU.

    22 PB Lariat owner here…has anyone else noticed a link between battery voltage issues and the car defaulting to using the conventional/backup starter to start the engine vs the electric drive motor? My dealer swapped out the factory battery a couple months ago under warranty. Over the past week or so, I’ve noticed a sudden/regular use of the engine starter to start the engine on the initial cold start. My understanding is that the conventional engine starter is in place in case the state of charge of the high voltage hybrid battery is too low to turn the engine over. Since this truck is so damn complicated, I wonder if a voltage issue on the 12V battery might somehow be connected to this sudden use of the starter. I would guess low voltage on the 12V battery would result in a decreased ability to use the engine starter? 🤷‍♂️

  • @fixorrepairdiy4609
    @fixorrepairdiy460910 күн бұрын

    The primary "cold start" method is the belt-driven starter; if you've ever been sitting in a parking lot with the truck on and heat or A/C on, the ICE will kick in from the BDS and the truck will rock, or "torque" from this starting event. In 2.5 years of ownership, I have only heard the Bendix/Flywheel start method used maybe 3 or 4 times. And yes, only when the state of charge of the 12V battery is low. I would suggest monitoring your 12V battery using the bluetooth device featured on this video and see what the difference is between overnight resting voltage and full charge voltage. When my 12V OEM battery got weak, overnight voltage would drop under 12V on "wake up" and the DC/DC converter would run up to almost 15V on full charge. No wonder I was blowing out tail lights.

Apparently little to no clean up after they changed oil and filter, plug on so tight I was afraid for the case and threads, drain plug mangled likely from use of an impact, under shield four 8mm bolts also overly tightened to the point of messing up the metal bolt holders and the shield holes itself. And YES, wtf was ford's thinking (if there was any real thinking) with the oil filter placement? I would love it IF you could pay a fair cost for service that wouldn't disappoint let alone paying $250.00 an hour for work that is schyt!

    I covered my reasoning for replacing it myself in a separate video. First, Ford will not replace a battery unless it throws an error code. Second, burning a day of my time just to hear them deny my request costs me much more than what a battery costs. Third, why go back to the same battery that was causing problems?

    Another very informative and humorous video. I am considering an F150 as my first truck and I am taking notes on your experiences with the Powerboost. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us!

    Michigan = Rust. No one uses more salt. I’ve successfully purchased used Toyota trucks 90-100k and pushed them to 250-300k miles. T100 and 1st gen Tundra. But it’s always the rust and rust related issues that got to them. Never an engine or drive train issue. Full synthetic. Varied brands. A 1/2 quart of Lucas and 5k oil changes. Just traded a 2006 Tundra 257K for a 2020 2.7 F150 with 17K. Plan on maxing this truck out. Have a similar mindset of yours but I love how well thought out and informative your videos are.

    Thanks for the comment and appreciate the kind words, Steve! Am very happy to be living in an area that rarely snows and never uses salt. Literally watched my cars rust away in front of me in the 70's and 80's when I lived in the salt belt.

    Have you had to replace your LED bulbs since buying them in the previous video? I bought these bulbs and have had issues with longevity

    The first gen from two years ago eventually failed. The next gen that they replaced them with a year ago have been rock-solid, much more robust.
