As Mark Rush says the clock tower is a gift of the British Comunity for the centenary in 1910/1916 (1st National Government, 1816 independence). The avenue you called 9 de Julio (July 9th) is Corrientes Avenue. The Obelisco of Buenos Aires is in the intersection of 9 de Julio and Corrientes Avenue. 9 de Julio is the widest avenue in the world, Corrientes Avenue is the avenue of the big comercial theaters, the libraries and some iconic pizza restaurants. The place where the Obelisco is built is the place where the national flag was first flown in the city. In that place was the Convent of Saint Nicholas, so the district north of it is called San Nicolás, but for other people is the "Microcentro" (equivalent to downtown, because nearby are the main business buildings an main bank offices. The First Foundation of the City, accordin to studies was in 1536 near Parque Lezama (near La Boca district), but was abandoned later. The Second Foundation of Buenos Aires was in Plaza De Mayo, where the Casa Rosada was the fort.

I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for nearly 10 years. The clock that you are referring to was a gift to Argentina 🇦🇷 from the British ex-pat community that lives in Argentina. Buenos Aires is a combination of New York City, Paris France 🇫🇷 and Washington D.C. and an added benefit is Buenos Aires is very affordable to live in the whole country is awesome 👌.

All the names are bad. The avenue he named as 9 de Julio is actually Corrientes Avenue; the monument is the Obelisk because it is, indeed.....an obelisk. It marks the place where the city was founded. San Nicolás is the name of the quarter where is downtown, as you say Manhattan. Buenos Aires is famous for its cafés, so Starbuck was innecessary. It seems as if he was describing an indigenous village in the jungle. The avenue where is the portrait of Eva Peron is indeed July 9th Avenue......and is the ONLY building with that portrait, it is not "everywhere". To much enthusiasm!

@@dalerojo2.091 You are right . It marks the place where the flag was rised the first time in the city, in 1812, in the church of San Nicolás de Bari's tower. However, it was erected in conmemoration of the 400 anniversary of the first foundation of Buenos Aires in 1536 by Pedro de Mendoza.

Play that funky Music Whiteboy. I'm somewhat confused but impressed. Hopefully we can make it through Winter Wolf Hunting? Predator is not.a 4 letter Word in my neck of the woods.
