Duffy's Overlanding Adventures

Duffy's Overlanding Adventures

Welcome to my second KZread Channel.

You will find me on the beautiful island of Cebu in The Philippines where I met my beautiful wife (Jane) now over thirty years ago. Together we have two grown up children. (Chantel - 23 and Jaimé 25). Our home is located here in Cebu Philippines where I am surrounded with my family and friends in a large lush tropical garden paradise.

On our channel, you'll find videos about overlanding, 4x4, and off-road adventure on the many backroads in The Philippines. I love exploring these many trails and backroads. Behind every twist and turn of these roads there is hidden places and adventures waiting for us.

I will be sharing details about our vehicle, the gear we use, places to buy new gear and upgrade your 4x4 vehicle, the places we visit, and education about planning trips. Whether you're a seasoned overlander or just getting started, we hope you'll find something to love on our channel.

Thank you for reading, Sincerely Duffy

    The other road to Badian is more scenery, the best view and especially the farms on top of the mountains along the roadside.

    Stoked you enjoyed the ride! Drone shots really do capture the magic, don't they? The coast's got nothin' on what's next. Been prepping the trusty Hilux for some serious backroad adventures. There's a whole lot more Philippines to explore, and this journey's just getting started. Take care and all the best ! - Duffy

    The price of a Toyota Hilux depends a good bit on where you are in the world. In Cebu, Philippines where I got mine, a Hilux will set you back ₱ 2,072,000 pesos. In Norway, where I work, the same truck will cost you USD 112,853. Toyotas hold their value like a fish holds its breath, and discounts are about as common as finding a marlin in a minnow bucket. Take care and all the best - Duffy

    Hey there folks, Just wanted to say thanks to anyone who took a minute to check out this little escape. Nothin' fancy here, just some peace and quiet in the Cebu hills. Fresh air, good views, that's the ticket. For those who stuck around till the end, you might be wonderin' what's next. Well, let's just say I haven't been wastin' my weekends. Been out scoutin' new tracks back in Norway. Traded the mountains of Cebu for forest and high mountains above the timberline this time, but the spirit's the same. Took the Ranger out, the WildTrack double cab, see how she handles the rough stuff. Got myself stuck in the snow, more fool me. But a shovel, some low-range, and a whole lot of patience got me back on track. Remember, these solo adventures, they gotta be done right. Anyway, that's another story for another time. In the meantime, keep an eye out and be good to yourselves. Cheers, - Duffy

    If I may since you are into trails I suggest Old Man Emu BP-51 for your suspension and Dobinson’s Parabolic leaf springs for comfort but 1 ton capable and of course Falken AT3ws for your tyres.

    Hey @SleepySriracha, thanks for the tip! Appreciate the intel on the Old Man Emu and Dobinsons. You're right, a full suspension overhaul is definitely on the cards. Leaning towards the BP-51s or the new MT-64s, maybe even the Ironman Foam Cells Pro. Parts are easy to find here in Cebu, which is a relief, and everywhere you turn you hear good things about them. Those Falken tires definitely caught my eye too, worth a closer look for sure. I've had good experiences with both BFGoodrich and Grabbers in the past. But for the Hilux, I'm really leaning towards the BFGoodriches. The stock Bridgestones that came with the Hilux? Those are getting chucked the second the lift goes on. Don't get me wrong, they're fine for cruising around on pavement in a lighter vehicle, but on a 4x4 they just don't cut it. Mine got a flat just a few hundred km after I got the truck. Actually, speaking of the BFGoodrich tires, you've got me thinking even more. The All-Terrain T/A KO2s are legendary for a reason, that aggressive tread digs in like nobody's business. And they seem to hold their own on the road too, which is important for those highway stretches between adventures. But the All-Terrain T/As are tempting as well, a bit quieter ride and maybe they'd last longer, which is always a bonus. Haven't quite made my mind up between the two BFGoodrich options yet, but those are definitely the frontrunners. Thanks again for the suggestion! Take care and all the best. - Duffy !

    This video hits me right in the feels! There's something special about those old, rugged paths. Reminds me of a similar hidden trail near Balamban Cebu. Anyone else have a secret off-road haven they'd be willing to share? And the adventure's only just begun! My trusty Hilux is getting prepped for even deeper dives into the backcountry. Next on the list is a 2-inch lift and some beefy new tires to help me clear even more rugged terrain. - Duffy

    As of now I am loving the new ARB underbody protection. M-Tech did a fantastic job and my rig feels even more ready to tackle any adventure. If you're in Cebu and looking for top-notch 4x4 mods, definitely check out M-Tech (M. Logarta Ave, Cebu City) or Ironman 4x4 Superstore Cebu (Ouano Ave. NRA, Mandaue City)! Both are great options and just a short drive from each other. #Cebu #4x4Life #Modified4x4 #SupportLocal

    is the ride not too bumpy w/out heavy cargo?

  • @DuffysOverlandingAdventures
    @DuffysOverlandingAdventures6 ай бұрын

    Hi @manuelr1405 Yes, pickup trucks can be bumpy when unloaded, particularly at high speeds on dirt roads. Or when driving in two wheel drive in winter condition. (In winter slow down and put it in 4x4 and you feel the difference immediately.) This is due to the fact that they are designed to carry heavy loads, and their suspension systems are tuned accordingly. When they are unloaded, the suspension is not as well-damped, and this can make the ride feel bouncy and jarring. However, the bumpiness of an unloaded pickup truck can vary depending on the specific model and suspension setup. I have two pickup trucks - this Toyota Hilux 2.8 CONQUEST 4X4 A/T and Ford Ranger Wildtrack 4x4 3.2-liter diesel A/T powertrain, and non of these feel bumpy at all when driving with an empty bed on main roads or dirt roads. My Hilux is on stock tires but my Ranger in an some beefy General Grabber tires. Note, I do not drive fast. And keep to a speed below 110 Kmh. If you are concerned about the bumpiness of an unloaded pickup truck, you may want to test drive a few different models to see which one feels the best to you. You may also want to consider adding aftermarket suspension components, such as shocks and springs, which can help to improve the ride quality. Next on my own list of modifications is to add aftermarket suspension to my Hilux and upgrade the tires. Also note that the seat comfort is different from model to model so borrow a truck from a friend or a store and give them a try. Of the two trucks I own, I sit better in my Hilux than in my Ford. Hope this help and all the best. - Duffy

    Ford's a much better vehicle all round. If you don't take into consideration the plethora of plastic engine parts, engineering, reliability and quality.

  • @DuffysOverlandingAdventures
    @DuffysOverlandingAdventures6 ай бұрын

    Greetings, @nathansharma87, As an owner of a 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak, equipped with a 3.2 liter diesel A/T powertrain, I can only provide my own perspective. While Ford has clearly made an effort to elevate the cabin's materials, there are a few areas that could be improved. Firstly, the steering wheel's design could be enhanced for improved ergonomics and overall feel. The electronic gauge cluster and infotainment system lack sophistication in their appearance. While the latest version of the Ford Ranger has made some improvements in this regard, as you know from the video, I remain unimpressed with these tablet-style screens. Additionally, the visibility of the buttons could be improved, particularly during daylight hours. Lastly, the texture and rigidity of the gear shifter could be enhanced to provide a more premium feel. (I'm not a fan of the hard plastic used for the gear shifter in my 2018 model.) It is a good Truck. But like the new Ford Ranger models - good looking and lots of tech for city use - but to me it could not match the Toyota Hilux in what matters to me. Take care and all the best. - Duffy

    @@DuffysOverlandingAdventures As an owner of a 2019 f150 and having tried a ford ranger myself, I totally agree with you, rangers in my opinion are mostly meant for the road because of their hauling/load capacity and comfort in ride especially in the long haul rides without having the need to have a full load in the truck bed, the hilux on the other hand excells in offroad capability with rigid leaf springs and suspension, both trucks have its pros and cons but at the end of the day its all up to the users preference.
