    Thank you for the best review of 700s, I ve just purchased them but not saisfied with soundstage and clarity. Any advice what to get for listening pleasure in this +-100$ price range? I really liked your clarity / soundstage charts but did not understand names of all models. Do you have written chart may be?

  • @NoThemeReviews

    I don’t have a chart. There are of course other headphones with wider soundstage and clarity, but the sound signature will be very different. You could try the Shure SRH 1840, Austrian Audio Hi-X55 or 65, Avantone Planar, Sivga Phoenix-just as a starting list. All of these have a variety of sound signatures, detail and soundstage.

  • @markbajkowski1171

    I just wanted to add a couple of points for whatever it is worth. First, as indicated in the review, even with its good transient response, the Blue Ella is not the best performer in terms of presence, ambience, and openness or air. Certain detail-oriented headphones offer much better performance in these areas, especially with a tube amp if too harsh natively, although this may come with the cost of noticeable tonal coloration in some cases. However, Ella seems to respond exceptionally well to certain high-quality amplifiers and may even serve very effectively as a monitor for tube rolling. For example, when paired with the Cavalli CTH+SDAC amp and a Russian 6N23P single-wire (!) tube, the Ella significantly awakens, lifting significantly its "ambience fog" and revealing more lifelike details (somewhat Grado-like but with warmer/darker tonality) but rich, silky highs. This also highlights that using Ella's built-in amp should be a last resort only when the driving device you use is low-quality and power-insufficient for high-impedance cans, especially because the internal amp cannot compensate any inferior analog signal. Lastly, the Ella headphones are good for those who wear glasses, as they cause acceptable interference with side frames.

    I’ve been using the same pair of R70x’s for 8 years now in the studio and I still absolutely love them. For what it’s worth, they were NOT babied (they’ve been dropped, stepped on, thrown in bags, etc) and despite some nicks on the metal finish they’re still going strong. I think maybe the plastic is glass reinforced, so despite the appearance they’ve proven to be very very reliable and I’ve only had to replace the ear pads. Personally, I find them to be neutral and make a perfect additional studio reference

    I love the engineering and material choices of the elites and appreciate that they are said to be very comfy too. I own the ZMF Verite Closed but find myself drawn to the Sony Mdrz1r as I'd like a more bass focused headphone. To compliment the verite. Do you think it would be a night and day difference? On the other hand I have the pc38x for gaming and wonder if the hd800s are REALLY that much more immersive generally, or competitive in fps... Would appreciate your thoughts? Love your content BTW.

  • @NoThemeReviews

    I’ve never heard the Verite but have read some reviews of it. Yes, based just on third hand knowledge of the Verite, the Sony will be a pretty obvious difference. The Sonys have a darker, more bassy signature. The bass isn’t boomy per se, but it’s also not particularly defined-for example, with typical planars you can hear the cleanliness and separation of sub and mid bass. That’s not the Sony way.

    The bifrost has measurable even-order (and some odd) distortion into the 80db range... The customer service reps are likely not into the weeds of this stuff to be able to explain that to you. They are just there to handle returns and general sales inqureries. This is shown in the AP reports on schiits website and corroborated by the measurements of ASR. Distortion = saturation, which would in-fact make them sound "warm" to a lot of people. It's not a tonality difference. Given that db in a lot of music peaks the highest in the bass region, that's where you'll get the most added distortion and saturation. If you want to learn more, please look up the differences between good and bad distortion in music production. There are explanations and examples posted online showing how different types of distortion added to a sine-wave sound different, including the very audible differences between even-order and odd distortion, including the reasons they are added intentionally in music production. Also, hope you aren't still shilling for Ollo Audio...

    Man, I love my Sennheiser HD560S, , I´m more an iem user, I have a bunch of them but nowdays I´m more focused on Headphones, so one particular brand caught me (AKG K702) and I'm undecided whether to buy it or not, if there's something better for the price, remembering that when it comes to headphones, my experience is more limited, compared to IEMs, which I've already tested almost everything., another one I'm interested in is the HD600 but the price is already higher, what do you advise me? Or maybe buy a desktop dac/amp and try to be happy with my HD560S, I have the Fiio BTR5 and Fiio BTR7, they´re good for the HD560S but they´re more for portability use. edit: The HD560S came with another cable now, the same you get with the HD599SE, wich is better.

    What do you think of the opinions that Meze's Empyrean and Elites are "muffled" and lacking detail? Some of the same criticisms have been aimed at the Sendy Peacock and some of their other offerings. After demoing many said headphones, I feel like a lot it might come down to brain burn-in for people. What they think is clarity is just headphone tunings being much brighter. Personally I find the brighter headphones fatiguing and having an unnatural timbre for acoustic instruments, which is especially obvious in more intimate recordings where only a few instruments are present, the closest to a live performance.

  • @NoThemeReviews
    @NoThemeReviews26 күн бұрын

    My first thought to that is, compared to what? The answer gives a pretty good indication of the underlying issue. No, I don’t think the Meze are muffled. They’re no more muffled than Audeze when it comes to detail. I tend to agree that the brightness of a headphone can contribute to the perception of detail. Beyerdynamic does that, and so does the ChiFi tuning. The next question is what are they using to judge detail? It would be nice to know what tracks and specific quantifiable details they’re referring to. It’s rare to get such depth in criticism, and more often than not, the “detail” people talk about is covered in vague, barely understandable jargon. Unless we know what metrics are used to make judgments, it’s hard to take such comments seriously. They might be correct in their opinion at the end of the day, or they might not. No way to tell until they give meaningful info.
