I’m obviously a Fender guy through and through, if you’ve seen my latest one about the Tease guitar there’s 4 Fenders( and the Squier don’t want to offend the “Fender Police” on here calling it a Fender and saying 5) in the shot. After playing the Tease I wasn’t as impressed as much with the Squier Debut. Still like it cause to me it seems like a part of “Fender made” history

Epiphone Les Paul Special II, bought from a family friend's store, Matisko Guitars, in late 90's. He used to make awesome custom guitars for EVH and others, and did the ultimate setup on my LP2, because he knew I'd never be able to afford one of his customs. That particular one, is still my best player. Next, was Ibanez GAX-50 in '05 or so. Both those were around 300 then. You got some great tones out of that cheapie.

I've bought two store return Epiphones in the last year, cherryburst LP Sp 2, and SG Special. the LP2 was a 2021 model, and neck pickup didn't work. Opening it up, a large blob of the finish, had formed and hardened on neck side center edge of pickup cavity, about 1/4 inch thick. Instead of filing it down, which I eventually did, the assembler just shoehorned pickup into it, breaking the coil. The SG sp was a recent 2023 model, and just didn't work. Opening it up, the GND wire was never connected from bridge at all. Left bridge screw is extremely hard to turn, while right is easy. I fixed the wire, and left bridge alone, since it lined up for me. QC is about non-existent there.

I “hearted” your comment not cause of your horrible experience, but cause I hear you and understand the pain. From a “major” retailer as Epiphone you’d expect they could do it just as good as these smaller companies made in the same factory.(not sure who or if same but same style) what did you go with after the bum ones you got?

@@SearchingForTone I kept them. I'd bought them as returned items for 80 bucks each. • @charlene2400

@@SearchingForTone I've built up 3 great Glarry strat-ish guitars. I'm doom metal rhythm guitarist, but needing lighter weight than 8lbs+ for long play. That SG sp is only around 7lbs, and I'll run it occasionally. Break a string on heavy muted stuff, with that wraparound bridge, and you'll suffer, lol. I like to do a bit different than the cliche all black and look at the floor thing, lol. trem's blocked, if there, use both pickups, and tones dialed way down, and heavy muted, with long sustain slide notes. I use the LP Sp2 and a Donner DST200 for normal play types. In some ways, I think Squire and Jackson, are exceeding Fender these days. I'll check it out. :)

@charlene2400 I think Fender is trying to somehow combat things, I don’t think it’s working. Their squier debuts are good if you refuse to go the factory no name route. But it’s made in the same country. At least it’s supporting the name brand.

I have done my research. Been researching this sort of thing for 30+ years. Seems many. many musical equipmenrt companies are doing this. Big cluster near Puente Hills fill in LA. Fender, GearIT, and several others. It's biggest fill in the USA. Worse yet is food supply. Nestle just put a Coffee-Mate factory next to the Glendale fill in Phoenix. Then theres Amazon wirh several warehouses next to fills. Tower Rd. in Denver comes to mind. But your choice to make. I chose not. "Doesn't bother" doesn't mean "Ir's OK". Some folks are OK paying literally millions to live next to fills in Orange County Ca. Doesn't mean it makes sense. There are people living in multi-million dollar homes, as well as schools adjacent to fills in Orange County , Ca. Beliece me, I've done alot of research on this.

@@SearchingForTone Double bagged etc, doesn;t matter... how are you going to open it and keep the crud on the outside from getting into everything... and into your home? It's an ounce o prevention vs. pound of cure problem. Nothing abusive here. I want the industy to stop doing this. The more that realize it, and perhaps say something about it, the more likely it will change, I've got a rash of recording equipment here I'll never use... because I failed to reseach before I bought on Amazon... but then you don't get to pick the warehouse, either. Not to mention, it's all interconnected by the trucks... and the aircradt. Civil engineers seem to very often locate fills ans airports adjacent... check it out on google eaeth... just type in "landfills near [fill in the blank]"... you'll be surprised how often it is. Heck in Sonoma Ca, there's a fill in the wine area... locals call it "the Sonoma Aroma"... if you can smell it... you in a cloud of "it"... if it's in the air... it's infusing into everything in the cloud. If you've ever lived anywhere hot and wet like I have (S. Fla.) you realize what I'm talking about. It's just poor practice to havw homes and businesses anywhere close to fills, wastewater and several other biohazards. Lived about 2 miles from Rocky Flats near Boulder, Colorado and the Marshall fill... livestock in the area has many, many birth defects and deformities. And we haven't even touched on water supply. (Nor what we don't even know about what goes on in offshore factories and materials supply chains. For example current sources of mahagany if guitars... Cocao, Tea,. Coffee, etc. if food.. People just aren't aware,. IMHO.

A metronome and practice would be useful. Prepping before a video is the professional way. At least only including clips that sounded correct. I’m not sure this would’ve sounded much better through a ‘72 LesPaul and a JCM 800 full stack. I didn’t even make it though the whole video before stopping the video. This sounded more like my teenaged nephew who is just been learning. The down side is that the description implies that it is to help beginners. Not being able to play the parts makes the guitar sound unjustifiably bad. Sour or missing notes, off time rhythm and general incompetence might keep a kid from getting an otherwise “ok” guitar for the price they needed to start. @viarnay is making the point that it is almost impossible to judge the quality of the guitar without anctually hearing it played correctly. You should post videos of techniques and gear a beginner should want to be able to do. No one is going to watch this and think, “I hope I can sound like that one day”🤦‍♂️

@birdman316 I think I’m ok with poor pickups if everything else is great. Look, feel, frets, tuning. If any of those are off then I’d say I would need stock pups to be better to compensate.

I think there’s better out there, but price was pretty appealing. If it wasn’t dinged up I would’ve kept it. I would’ve loved to see how much I’d have to spend for an epiphone to get the same quality. It certainly beat the $200 model hands down
