I was in the Foreign Service, newly married and just returned from El Salvador to Washington, DC, when this movie came out. Given Reagan’s aggressive rhetoric, and the generally tense Cold War atmosphere of the early 80s, I seriously thought about sending my Salvadoran bride back to Salvador, because I (and no one, to be honest), knew where this would come out…

If you think this depiction is bad you should look online for the grim UK equivalent- called ‘Threads’ I was 13, this 2 movies scared the crap out of me. But Threads is really, really horrible to watch.

One thing we should all not is , is that people pressing the buttons and the people telling them to press the buttons are initially safe from any danger. Dunno bout you but it sort of makes it easier to do which certainly doesnt make it better for us on the surface....just saying

I saw the movie Premier at KU in Lawrence, KS where it was filmed. Never was I so glad to be able to walk out of the theater that day into a nice sunny afternoon. I used to think I’d be prepared, I’d be ready- I could survive it. I saw the absurdity of that notion. There’s no happy ending to the movie. Even if one were to survive, you’d have to protect your family and your stash. Every poor, starving, sick family that came near would be a threat to your safety. I wouldn’t want to live with that choice. In the old days … yes, I remember Ike … the presidents had been to war, seen the reality and knew it had to be prevented at all costs. Someone like Trump seems to have little awareness or concern for the consequences of his divisive behavior, as do the other would-be demagogues of the world. A sci-fi story of a future after WW4 - 2150 AD had the right idea. The majority of the remaining population chose to live in cooperative societies, developing their talents and abilities. The remaining few who still sought power and domination over others were exiled to an island where they could fight among themselves “‘til the cows came home”. Trump is a surrogate for those kind of people.

I lived on Guam during these years. We had an SAC base. Prime target. Cut off from supplies after an attack, none would have survived.

I was in USAF Security Specialist tech school when this movie aired. One of the guys rented a TV and a few of us watched it in his room. The wear of the uniform and personal appearance regulations (AFR 35-10) had been hammered into us at the time. And we were learning about securing vital Air Force resources including the use of deadly force. Needless to say, after learning what we'd learned, we found ourselves chuckling at the way Air Force Security was depicted in this movie.

The Government shouldn't even bother telling us. What's the bloody point? If you don't evaporate (best was to go) you'd burn. If you didn't burn, you'd get radiation poisoning. If that doesn't get you, starvation will.

Makes me wonder what the government was thinking when the silos were built “in the middle of nowhere.” Did they think yes, full destruction, especially our farmlands, or was it just easier because of security reasons?

Sorry they didn't show the ruskies getting hit.. They seemed WAY more interested in showing Americans getting hit than the soviets. American nukes probably just shower a site with dumbocrat leaflets saying how great the US is with more libs in office. In a way, we've already lost.😮

May mankind never, never reach this point in which there are no winners, only losers in a nuclear war! One of the worst ways to die is from radiation poisoning. Your skin begins to fall off, you are incredibly nauseated, your hair comes out in clumps, you cant eat or drink anything.
