My thoughts on each rebrand Aston Martin: Good redesign! Nice simplification without making it flat and boring. Do wish the arch was kept though Rolls Royce: the RR was simply too iconic to replace. The new logo is nice, but it’s really a gamble to not use the iconic RR. Generally not a good idea to not use iconic symbols. Volkswagen: Yuck. Classic example of flat and boring. It looks too skinny, and the lack of colour makes it easier to lose track with all the other modern monochrome logos. The 1978-1989 logo shown would have been a perfect choice instead. BMW: Absolutely awful. The absence of black looks completely ridiculous, and makes it so anytime the logo is overlayed on a background, the white and blue are superimposed on a different background colour every time. Definite downgrade. Audi: agree that the interlocking is crucial. Audi’s logo is one that really profits from a chrome design rather than a flat one. Ford: An upgrade! The wordmark is classic and it’s a good idea to show it off! Nissan: The worst offender on this list. Definition of bland design. Going back to the red and blue era would have been the move. This logo is atrocious. Renault: Good redesign that can become classic. Peugeot: Looks like a Lamborghini knockoff. This logo screams of an identity crisis, and getting rid of the fairly recognizable griffin for a generic shield design is a bad move. KIA: Shitty logo for a shitty brand. I think it’s a downgrade from the previous one, but not the worst offender on the list. Definitely could have used some separation between the letters. I did take a while to figure out it was supposed to spell KIA.

As a designer who works on majority of the brands listed in the video, unfortunately a lot of the facts presented are incorrect. Audi rebranded to a 2d design many years ago (try 2018), and have since modified their brand library to have multiple weights of their logo. Car brands are going flatter and thinner with everything. It's the automotive trend. Kia, Rolls Royce, BMW. The lot. For Audi thinner is the norm now, and it definitely isn't going away. Rather Audi have doubled down on it. Their current generation of cars has rolled out with the thin mono logo on the grill. The Germans love thin flat things. Logos with car brands also get complicated as it's normal to have a different logo for a dealership sign, vs their marketing. Automotive brands usually have multiple versions of their logo, and many of the instances you've referred to aren't actually their primary brand logo. Example is Esctasy Symbol for Rolls Royce isn't their primary logo. Never was.

Okay, I understand the companies changing their logos, but what's with them giving excuses in typical PR wording BS like aiming for future, inclusion and such stuff. If you wanna change your logo, then just change it and give a shoutout like " Guys,we changed our logo, here it is". Instead of giving half a page length of generic corporate PR statement.

Intelligent, interesting and intelligible. I do not need stressed and sped up explanation attempts when I want to relax and learn. Keep up the good work, this has potential. Some people can explain, at high speed -- a lot of nothing. Other people can tell, in a calm voice and in a shorter time, a lot more. Intriguing.

As someone who used to work for a print company with Fortune 100 clientele, I can tell you that they would absolutely obsess over small details like the gradient in a shaded or 3D-type logo. Some companies would even send a marketing rep to our print facility to physically sign off on pre-production samples and then monitor our QC during the print run. So to me it's not surprising to see them go to flatter, more monotone logos that are easier and cheaper to reproduce ("Here's our logo line art, use Pantone 294 for this part and 185 for that part, and send us our finished marketing pamphlets and a bill when you're done.") I bet it won't be long though before trends start to swing back the other way as companies move to make their logos "stand out" more from their competitors' flat logos.

My ratings: Aston Martin - They made the logo slightly more scalable but slightly worse. Rolls Royce - I actually like the change. The old logo was fine, but boring. Skoda - Basically the same logo, but with a hideous colour scheme. Nope. Volkswagen - It reminds me of their historic logos, but not in a good way (in an angry Austrian man way). BMW - Meh, basically the same logo but transparent. I think it will look worse on some backgrounds, but better on others. Audi - Oversimplified. I mostly agree with the fans. Volvo - It looks like a vector icon from a presentation, not like a brand logo. Too weird, but also not absolutely terrible, and at least it's unique. Ford - The old logo was already fine. Removing shading doesn't improve it, but doesn't really make it worse either. Nissan - I don't like the brand, but I like the new logo. I'm not sure what this implies. Citroen - I hated the previous "3D in 2D" logo, the new one is a huge improvement. Renault - love it! Peugeot - I like the logo, but it doesn't work for peugeot, it looks like a high-end sports car (or gaming PC) brand, not a brand best-known for their estate cars. Kia - Shit. No, the reaction was not overblown.

That Peugeot logo irritates me. It's very close to the Proton logo. It sits within a similar shape. It has a big cat (in this case a tiger) looking in the other direction. And there's the Proton name above it in a similar font. Only thing is... Proton looked like this since 2000.
