Why do you use paraffin wax and just a little beeswax? The first one isn't particularly environmentally friendly so I rather use the latter one. Is it only the price?

When I batik fabric I use unprinted newsprint, you can get it in bulk from a moving supply company, it’s called packing paper. Then when finished you can roll the paper up as fire starters

Love this iron technique, thanks! Some helpful safety hints from another Video: 1. Wax is flammable, right?! So you may want to take some extra care. Another friend shared that they put the wax in a can in a hot water bath in another pot, if heating over a gas flame. Also, melted wax is extremely hot, so take care handling it, and best not done around little kids. Not being "overly cautious" but some people with less experience, may be watching this video. thanks again!

Nice one. I nearly went to buy the waxed canvas just now, but in the last 2 weeks I’ve been doing a lot of research on different waxes and all the uses I was interested in. And then it just hit me - waxed canvas is probably nothing more than fabric that was coated in wax. Googled it, found your video. Awesoooome!!! Thank you very much, that will save me loads of money. Add to the fact that I have all kinds of fabrics. Is it just 100% cotton you can use? Thank you.

Or if you are using a towel don’t use a large bath sheet use a small towel allow the wax to soak into the towel eventually you will only need to iron the wax on the towel and the wax will blot into the cotton from the towel build up

OK, good. Very easy. Although would it be good for a coat or a tarp? And also, could you explain why others add turpentine or silicone to the mixture of waxes? I've been searching for water proofing materials for at least a year now, so...saw a lot of things about it. Anyway thanks for this video.
@Davmm96 Жыл бұрын
Turpentine makes applying the wax easier and evaporates after, some also use naphta since its less toxic and dries super fast. Oils makes the fabrics less rigid when everything as dried out but a bit less water-resistant. An heat gun is also useful if you don't wanna wax your iron that you use for your nice shirts. I've rewaxed my canvas raincoat with a mix of beeswax and boiled linseed oil and works nicely with a sweet earthy light scent as a bonus.
